First year in Newcastle and despite the complaints and sabotages of the few; the many triumphed. Over 190,000 people over 3 days and I'm proud to say it was held in my home city.
There is still plenty to be done in Newcastle with the light rail but public transport is the best bet for getting to the race. Parking is scarce and you will pay for it or park further away and walk in. Earplugs or earmuffs are a good idea for children but I didn't feel a need to put my plugs in. I wanted to hear everything! The backfires can make you jump though.
There are plenty of toilets and food stalls. Merchandise available but particular items sold out. It's a large area so if you choose general admission over grandstand seating be prepared to do plenty of walking or get in early to secure a good spot and settle in for the day. Sunscreen, hat and umbrella a must. Shady spots were quickly snapped up with the perfect weather. Crowds are to be expected so take your time over the bridges and mind your footing. You will get where you're going eventually, just be patient.
I'm far from a rev head nor do I possess much knowledge of cars but I really enjoyed the event. They are spectacular to watch and considering this is a street circuit and the roads are ordinarily 40-50km zones you really can appreciate the precision, reflexes and concentration that go in to making a Supercars driver. read more
