Get on your skates, put on your jumpers and hit the ice…read more... Whether you're a kid or a big kid, Macquarie Ice Rink is a fun place to spend sometime standing up, swirling around or pulling off some serious moves.... It's open every day except Christmas (slightly ironic I thought) and it' opens everyday from 9 and closes around 10pm.... Prices are fair I thought - with adults costing $23 including skate hire.... The quality of the skates aren't bad....I mean they'll do the job.... but I wouldn't expect to be doing some major olympic pirouettes or anything. If you want the rink to yourself pretty much, may I suggest going during the week whilst kids are at school... its a lot more fun to experiment is no one is looking... Even if you're not a big skater, you can watch people spinning around from the foodcourt - and the view is free - so whether or not you're on the rink at least you will be entertained.

Clever thinking; catch a movie, go shopping, eat and go ice skating all in the one establishment. Macquarie University students are so spoilt. Also if you need a JP to verify any of your documents; come to this establishment and do all of the above on a Wednesday (and selected Saturday's) if you can. The Macquarie Park train service makes getting here from the city that much quicker and more accessible. If you still wish to catch a bus and enjoy the ride through the Harbour Bridge; then by all means continue to do so if your happy for the journey to take 40-45 minutes to get there; yet Macquarie Centre is more at your doorstep. Great customer service and skates to hire. This rink is massive. Who cares if there is an ice skating group on when you turn up; there is still plenty of space to skate around in circles; and even backwards: fall over and get back up again. Remember the jeans and socks. Have fun. You will see the McDonald's customers looking out. A ton of fun, and an experience in itself.

My husband has fond memories of Penrith Ice Palace from his high school days. Afternoons and…read moreweekends with close friends were often spent skating away to colored lights and music. Due to extensive allergies, my choices of recreational activities have been severely limited. I'd since been more involved with indoor sports/activities such as squash, mini golf, and bowling. However, I'd never given ice-skating a thought... Hearing that I'd never skated with anything other than indoor quads, my husband insisted on taking me to my very first ice-rink. With my first Australian summer in full-swing, it would be a refreshing change from trying to plan activities around the blistering heat. As I had hoped, immediately upon entering the building, we were greeted by a glorious winter chill that never seemed to die down. I was right to bring warm gloves, a knitted beanie, and a thick hoodie despite the 30°C+ weather going on outside. Everyone on the ice was comfortable at their own respective paces and there were skaters of all different ages and experience-levels. For those of us who aren't as confident in our abilities (yet!), this was extremely comforting. The rink was of decent size (not that I have much to compare it with), the ice itself was freshly smoothed, and in all honesty, not that painful to fall on! My only disappointment had been the very edges of a quarter of the rink. The wooden barriers, although charming and sturdy, seemed highly worn and prone to splinters. Unless you're wearing gloves, I feel that it could be a hazard to those who aren't quite ready to let go of the walls for balance. Aside from that, I have no real complaints. As a first time ice-skater, this location granted me a solid first experience and impression of the sport. We will absolutely be returning again in the future.

And if you can't skate, don't fret! The Penrith Ice Palace offers skating lessons at their 'skate school' program! There are also Ice Hockey training sessions, and figure skating lessons! The only downside is that you can't simply rock up as and when you please, you should either call up and see what slots are open for the public on a given day, or look up the 'timetable' as it were, on their website, as they don't seem to have regular business hours. Admission for adults costs $18, $16 for students, and $15 for children, and this includes skate hire. Don't forget to have fun!
