So far, so good! I went in earlier this week for an eye exam and everything went smoothly. My case is kind of a difficult one in that I'm not 100% sure what my insurance plan is, so the friendly folks in the office have been very helpful, given the little I've provided them. All the staff are friendly and helpful, especially Emma. She seemed genuinely happy to help. Dr. Yee struck me as very thorough and invested in ensuring that I get the best glasses for my needs. If there's anything I didn't care for it was the offer of some additional exam. I was basically given a nice color brochure with a bunch of marketing copy with no explanation from anyone as to whether I really needed this or not. The sense I got from this experience was that they'd invested in this machine and they got some marketing literature from the vendor and this was an obvious upsell opportunity. If the view this device provides is really important and medically necessary, then don't offer it as an optional service and put the onus on me to decide if I want it. Not a huge deal, but slightly annoying. I started my review with "so far, so good" because I have only had an exam and ordered glasses; I haven't yet received them. I have no reason to believe that I'll be anything less than 100% satisfied with my order, but I'll update my review if that turns out to be not the case. read more

I've used this optometry office Twice in the past 2 years. Michael the optometrist was very helpful, as was the Dr. who gave me my prescription. However, the office staff has been rude to me on both visits. Moreover, I called to see if my glasses were ready and I was told to call today Wednsday. When I called them today I was told they had not arrived and even if they did I could not pick them up until Thursday. I've been wearing glasses for 20 years. This is the first time I was given this type of information. It's not so much the information given, but the attitude that the staff member had. I will never buy glasses there. I have had good service for 20 years until now. Recently, they sold me a progressive set of glasses that should be good for reading, mid-distance, and distance. Problem is when the glasses came back from the Laboratory that created them, the glasses do not match the prescription!. They did not take the time to make sure that what they sold me, matched what I got. I went on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Antarctica, and my glasses did not work. The movie on the plane was blurry, using my iPhone was blurry, reading a menu was blurry, reading a museum sign was blurry, using my computer was blurry, and seeing inside my camera eyepiece was difficult. Also, the second pair of glasses did not work, the computer glasses, They did replace those glasses so I could read and sure the computer. But that now means everywhere I go, I need 2 pairs of glasses. The real reason for my disappointment is that they did not take the time to make sure that what they sold me, matched what I got. The same thing happened to my husband a couple of weeks later. I really wanted 1 pair of progressive lenses! So disappointed. Being able to see is important. I am in a coffee shop now and I can barely see this, so sorry for any typos. read more

I find eye exams to be more unpleasant than dental exams, but the people at Coastside Eye Care make things as stress-free as possible. I tend to freak out whenever the various instruments get close to my eyeballs, but the staff here were very patient with me. There are a few doctors in this office, but I have only been seen by Dr. Lam thus far. She is terrific. There is a wide selection of prescription frames, so if you need them, you're sure to find something to suit your style. You can also buy fancy sunglasses here, too. Me, I'm at that age where I need reading glasses. There were so many styles to choose from, I must have spent over 20 minutes checking out the options. Again, lots of patience from the office staff. Wish I could give 0 stars!! Worst experience of my life!!!!!! Everyone at the clinic is phenomenal EXCEPT FOR MICHAEL!! HE WILL FOREVER RUIN THIS BUSSINESS AND I WILL NEVER RETURN BECAUSE OF HIM. He is racist and rude and and completely ruined the experience for my daughter who was so excited for her new glasses. We arrive to the appointment, HE MADE ME SCHEDULE, 15 minutes before incase we could be seen earlier.... Half an hour passed after my appointment and he couldn't have the decency to attend my daughter but he sure kept taking walk in customers despite the receptionist telling him several times we had been waiting over an hour for our appointment. HE RUDELY YELLED AT ONE OF THE FRONT DESK EMPLOYEES TO GIVE US OUR GLASSES AND FIGURE IT OUT, and remained with his white client rather than attend us, we are of color, AND HAD AN APPOINTMENT UNLIKE THE WHITE CLIEN HE WAS SO COZY WITH. NEVER AGAIN WILL I RETURN AND WILL TAKE MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. Disappointing because the rest of the staff is so nice, Michael is the worst thing for this place. read more

I would not go back to Dr. Gould's practice; my family did not have a great experience here. Dr. Gould was fine but her prices are crazy and we've never paid so much for appointments or our glasses WITH insurance. I actually called up after everything to make sure her staff had submitted our bill to insurance because it was so high. They did.. they just charge a lot, which is why we will go over the hill next time. I did not like how many times we were asked to come in for trivial things or working with Michael, the optician. He seemed kind of sleazy and could not remember who I was no matter how many times we talked. I brought in frames from elsewhere but needed lenses and he kept telling me the two kinds I could choose from were very different in price and what they did. I asked if I could see the lenses (I used to work for an optician and he always would show people in person) but Michael said no one does that.. I felt like I was tricked into something I may not have needed.The wait times here were long, even as the first patient of the day. One time I was just waiting for Dr. Gould to come in to work... so that was why my appointment started so late. And like I said, this practice kept asking us to come in again and again. I almost had to come in an extra time because my glasses were finished but Michael didn't remember me even though we had talked a day or two before. I wasn't going to say anything about this place even though the reviews seemed VERY inflated. However, I decided to write a review when Coastside Eyecare scheduled an appointment for my husband without even asking us! Yes it's almost been a year but you can't just decide your customers are coming back to you.. they may have been really unhappy with your services and it's rude to schedule an appointment for them. We never planned on coming back here and now we are angry too! My husband is getting calls about how he has to cancel his appointment if he doesn't want it. That's ridiculous and we are not calling.. he's not going. We are going over the hill from now on. You should do the same.. it's a total rip off for Coastsiders. Ps. My cousin had scheduled an appointment for me here, since I just recntly moved back to Half Moon Bay from the Hayward area and although loved my old optometrist in Hayward was not willing to cross the bridge and pay toll. Optometrist and staff were really helpful and extremely friendly. My only complaints was that they had very little designer glasses that I liked and were a bit overpriced compared to what my old optometrist in Hayward would charge. I also though that parking was a bit tough, since this place located right off of hwy 92 and next to a fish market, parking was very difficult especially if only parking is near the huge semi truck that is parked near this place for decoration? .. Seven weeks after my eye appointment, and I still did not have my glasses. I kept calling to see when I could pick them up, and was told they were not sure if they were ready, and someone would call me back, but I never got a call back. Very frustrating! Eye exam was fine. Dr. Gould is competent and nice. However: Optician is a used car salesman type. He was trying to force me to buy more expensive lenses than I needed. He tried talking me into paying for additional coating (which was unnecessary), more expensive lens material (again, not necessary), and he was telling me that the doctor had prescribed them. Hs approach was dishonest and deceiving and disappointing. When I passed on the "extras", he changed the frame price on me; in fact he doubled it, saying that it was on sale, and my insurance (VSP) would not cover it since it was on sale. He told me my only option was to pay full price, out of pocket for the frame. I have lived only a few blocks away for many years, so I was making it a point of purchasing my glasses from this location, as a local businesses. The optician went out of his way to make sure that I would never visit this office (ever) again. That means they lost my business and my family (four people) by being dishonest and greedy. read more
