Coastal Tree Service did an excellent job clearing huge stumps out of my yard. They managed to save a tree I really wanted to save. They were quick to respond and the worked started immediately. Sadly, I will not work with nor recommend these guys to any of my neighbors. My wife wanted some trees downed in our yard and saw an ad on Craigslist for Free Estimates for Tree Work. She immediately called and the gentleman came down within 20 minutes. He looked at what we wanted done and gave us an Estimate and told us they could do it in one day. They would bring a large truck to help get the taller part of the trees and clean it up same day. I requested he have it schedule on my day off from work on a Wednesday, which he said would not be a problem. When Wednesday rolled around he did not show up until late in the afternoon and it was only him and another gentleman in his pickup truck. This other gentleman had to take a lot of direction, indicating that he had no idea what he was doing and for all I know didn't even work for the company. They cut down the larger tree and only half of one of the Pine Trees and called it a day. There were still 2 palms and now 1.5 Pine Trees Remaining and no truck to clean up the mess. During one of the days I had to work they decided to come back down with the larger truck, more people and remove the 2 palm trees and the remainder of the half pine tree that was left. There was another man there, the supervisor, who told my wife that he couldn't do the last pine tree because the guy quoted us too low. I was not home to argue with him and with the number of men there my wife was uncomfortable to say anything. They never came back after that except when they sent the company down to do the stump grinding. So I never was able to speak to someone face-to-face about the mis-quote and disrespectful use of our time. If one of your guys gives a customer an estimate and that price is agreed upon before the job starts a company should not change their agreement and not finish the job. If their employee failed to give a proper estimate then that employee should be taken aside after the job is done properly and trained to do a better job not be taken out on the customer who is the one paying for the job. read more

I called Coastal for an estimate to have a few oak trees and a palm tree trimmed. Quite promptly a man named Richard was able to show. After reviewing what I needed done, he quoted $1000 which nearly floored me. We're talking 2-3 hours work maximum. Seeing my shock he immediately offered to do it for $800. I said that was better but did not commit; this was a Thursday, the next day they called and left a message saying they could do it Monday; I deliberately ignored them. Meanwhile I got a quote from a different company for $500. Wednesday of the following week they are calling non-stop and send an invoice for $800. I called to inquire what the invoice was about and they said they had done the trimming on Monday!!! I couldn't believe it, they had actually done the work without my approval. I know the people in this business need work, so rather than refuse to pay, I told them they need to return so I could review the work. The work was so minimal I had not even noticed it. That Saturday they returned and I had them trim a few more branches and paid their invoice. Overall, the scope of the work did not warrant an $800 charge, but they forced my hand by starting the work without approval. VERY unprofessional company, beware!!!! read more
