Jewelry Missing! We…read moreused The Movers, Inc for a recent military move and storage. Typically, it only takes 2 days to pack us out- one to pack, on to load the truck. However, The Movers Inc took 3 days- two very short days to pack (arriving well after 10 and departing around 4 the first day; arriving around 9:30 the second day and leaving well before 4) followed by the standard truck loading day. While our household goods were in storage a book box sustained serious water damage and the front panel of a trundle bed was irreparably damaged. The worst thing though, was upon receipt of our household goods we found box labels were rather useless- boxes said kitchen, but had living room items in them, etc. A box labeled merely "clothes" had all my jewelry in it- that is everything but the only 2 high value items- mine and my husband's college rings- and a HS ring that only *looked* like it might have value. I guess they are all lumps of gold at one of those "we buy gold" places now!

The driver called and told me he was too "worn out" to deliver and said a total of 5 swear words insulting his boss while I was on the phone because she told me he would be here. He was only 200 miles away and would've been here by 6, the original time we were told was "evening eta" as is. He's just a lazy, unprofessional person and the managers aren't much better for letting their drivers make their own ETAs and talk to customers that way. Horrible communication and customer service skills.

(Shuttle is a small truck brought in for picking up the goods instead of a big truck, later the stuff will be transferred to the big truck for the actual move).Although it was in the contract that they would charge $200 for shuttle, USA moving group didnt exclusively specify it to me. Moreover the move was not from my apartment but from a public storage location where a big truck could easily come and go, but i think to make money these guys brought in shuttle (one guy from the company visited a day earlier and knew shuttle was not needed). The move took more than a month, my stuff was picked up on 06/13, i told them i am joining my new apt on 06/28 and would be ready to receive from 06/28. But when i called them one week later on 07/06, they told that as per contract they can deliver 21 days after 06/28.(Initially they told me that the entire would not take more than two weeks). Finally they came on 07/19. I had virtually no valuables so most of it arrived safe and sound except for my brand new wireless router which was stolen(or misplaced by them). One of my boxes which i marked arrows saying which side is TOP, had big holes in it, i think as if to see if it contained any valuables. I would not recommend this company and KLM Vanlines.

I consider myself a victim. USA Moving is a broker that…read morerelies on a second broker to arrange for a third party to actually handle the move. In my case, I contacted USA Moving knowing that they were a broker. (I worked as a broker in another industry for many years and felt comfortable with the arrangement. By law, a broker's responsibility is to the client. Not to any third party.) Subsequently terms were discussed and a price was negotiated based on the inventory of items to be moved. At that point I have a contract presented to me with the name "Smart Choice Movers" on it. I assume that Smart Choice is the actual mover. Smart Choice is another broker who has third party movers handle the actual move. (I verified with the US Department of T ransportation that Smart Choice Movers, USDOT# 4528041, is actually a "hosehold goods broker" who arranges for the transportation of a customers personal property. What this allows the two brokers to do is lowball moving estimates. It works like this: You tell USA Moving what you have to move and they give you an estimate based on an significantly reduced volume of material to move. Prior to moving day, you have the same conversation with someone you assume to be the actual mover. (In my case it was apparently with either USA Moving or Smart Choice, but not the actual mover.) On moving day, a party you have no knowledge of or experience with, shows up and tells you that you owe 50% more based on the volume of stuff you have to move. (Again, prior to the demand for more money, a complete inventory of property, with dimensions, has been provided twice.) At this point, you are stuck between a rock and a very hard place. You are left with little room to negotiate. It's moving day and you're expected to be someplace else in a couple of days to start a new job. You can tell the mover demanding more money to leave, but you're out the deposit you paid to USA Moving. (I confirmed with USA Moving that I was out the deposit if I sent the mover away.) Stated briefly, it's a bit like extortion. You can learn from my poor experience and arrange for your move with another party. Or, you can ignore this warning and overpay significantly for your move.
