It is a comfort to be able to do your wash without contending with the crowds and competition for washers and dryers of much larger laundromats. The staff at Auburndale is helpful and friendly. The washers are nearly brand-new and very reliable. Although the dryers have been in place for some time, they have always worked well for me. I will exchange the quiet and service of this small laundromat for the bells and whistles of a larger, newer one, every-single-time.

After a major move, I dropped off a new suit and an overcoat at sister laundry mat/dry cleaners, Bangor Street Laundromat, 56 Western Ave., Augusta, ME. From there, it was then sent to John's Green Cleaners, 355 Main St, Lewiston, ME 04240. A week later, John's returned my black suit and overcoat to Bangor Street Laundromat where I discovered that both items were severely heat-damaged: the suit in the lapel, waist area, and front and back shoulders; the overcoat was a mass of wrinkles caused by seams that had shrink considerably and totally deformed and diminished each garment. Overzealous or inexperienced pressing had permanently damaged both items. Owner Greg at first responded to a phone call and asked to be given opportunity to correct matters. I sent the damaged items back to John's for a second pressing attempt. A week later, the still-damaged items were miserably the same. Phone calls to Greg's cell and the business went unanswered for at least two weeks. Finally, I wrote an email including the below photo links demanding the filing of a damages claim. Eventually an unknown "John's Cleaner" employee responded to my email by text (unprofessional) and included a photo of theirs still showing the obviously-damaged suit jacket on their presser with warpage all around. Within the text, John's took no responsibility for having damaged both items, provided no means of filing a damage claim, and offered a self-serving resolution: that I subject further articles of clothing to their abuse and receive a one-time 30% discount. Apparently, Greg sees small claims court as the preferred means to resolve damages disputes with his clients. Do yourself a favor: stay away from Bangor Street and all of John's Green Cleaner's affiliates throughout Maine.

Dry cleaners: like Mexican food in Maine, they seem to be few and far between. Maybe it's because I…read moredon't live in Portland, but there seems to be a dry cleaner shortage in this state. Before moving here, I was at my dry cleaner's 2-3 times a week. We were on a first name basis. She gave me a present when my son was born. We definitely went out more, wore more dry clean only clothes, and lived 2 minutes away. But here I live 15-20 minutes from the closest dry cleaner. It seems crazy. Anthony's is close to my work and thus has won my heart. They are not the fastest (but I've learned that Maine works at a Maine pace). You just have to embrace that you might have a 5 day turn around time instead of next day. Maybe that's an option and I probably should ask in case I need something in a hurry. But my clothes came back clean and the cost was reasonable. I can't ask for much more.

It is unattended, so if you have an issue there isn't any signage or person that lets you know how to address it. I didn't encounter any problems, so I'm lucky in that regard. There are two change machines, and a lot of the washers take cards, so you'd only need quarters for the dryers ($1.50 per load when I came). Washers and dryers were both 30 minutes a load, so you're not spending too much time doing laundry when you come here. The detergent dispenser was out of order, so bring your own. It's located behind the building with the Subway, across from Round Top Ice Cream, GPS will just dump you into the Subway parking lot.
