This place was such a great find. We just went into the little arcade off High Street for a quick…read morelook to see what was in it (mainly Choons the vinyl record shop that drew us in). The décor was the first thing that caught our attention, it kinda looked like one of those little idyllic places you only usually see on Instagram. Cosy blankets offered to wrap yourself in of you want to sit outside and lovely natural wood tables beautifully designed inside, complete with 2 little bay windows stuffed with cushions to make the place as comfortable as your own bed. I'm pretty new to the whole concept of frozen yoghurt given that I don't have much by way of a sweet tooth, but even I liked this. You pick your tub size as you go in the door, then the flavour of yoghurt you would like which you serve yourself from the machine, and then head to the counter where there is a table full of treats to adorn your tub with. Finally at the till you have a choice of sauce, melted Nutella and other such goodness. You pay by the weight of your tub, so you can choose how much or how little you're wanting to spend. I have to say it was delicious and really set off by the tiny shop being such a nice place to visit. They serve all the coffees you would expect in a modern café and seem to take it seriously as the day we were in there was a barista in looking like he was there to train staff in the production of proper espresso based coffee. So although we didn't actually get any (it was my birthday and we called in by way of yoghurt being desert) I'd say the coffee is likely to hit the spot too.

Ah Maud's. *Big Heart* Maud's is one of those great Irish traditions, unique to N.I and all began…read morein my home town. I had English friends over for the weekend and we treated them to some rather delicious pooh bear ice cream. I LOVE me some ice cream, don't get me wrong I love Ben&Jerrys etc but I'm sorry, you just can't beat Mauds (not even with a big poke ice cream!) Anyone visiting Ireland MUST TRY THIS! I can't imagine living without it, Apparently pooh bear is unheard of only that short hop, skip, jump across the water, or at least they do a variation of it which consists of jaw breaking honeycomb and poor quality ice cream. Sounds atrocious! So lucky enough I live here then. But, Oh the decisions you have to make. Normally it is without a doubt pooh bear, but now they've started making chocolate bear! Like pooh bear, but with chocolate! What are they trying to do to me! I haven't even got to their waffles, Drool. The ice cream must be something to do with our happy cows. Said friends were amazed how many cows there were in N.I. We moo'ed at a few of them, even offered them ice cream but they didn't take the bait. I reckon they knew we were having a BBQ later...But back to the point, if you like ice cream, you will LOVE Mauds. Go buy some (mine's a cone, ta!)

Over time all the Maud's parlours have gained an undying reputation with locals. I personally cannot get enough of their mint chocolate chip ice cream, although I have heard that their pooh bear ice cream is some of the best ever made. What is really good about Maud's is the portions/price ratio. I often feel that some parlours skimp a little bit of the amount of ice cream you get, but Maud's ice cream always ensure that either your cone or tub is filled to tipping point. A little advice from me, their dark chocolate sprinkles with crushed nuts on any ice cream really transforms it into an incredible dessert!

Eventually it opened and became a welcome addition to the city centre. I worked my way around the flavours, generally only taking two of them or even just one. Of all the toppings, I only tend to go for blueberries (and occasionally, kiwi) and nuts. Actually, I don't really want a lot of the froyo because I'm as prone to headaches as I am with ice cream. No, I just want a little froyo as a topping for the blueberries and nuts. Now somebody mentioned spillage. Well, after a little experimentation, I soon realized that the thing to do is to put as much of the nuts and blueberries into the tub first and then literally squirt the froyo as a topping. If only the nut spillers referred to in the other review would do the same, there wouldn't be such a cross contamination risk as the froyo on top just sits there, unless of course you have too much for the size of the tub. I didn't do it today, though, as it doesn't make a very good photo that way.

I visited last week and thoroughly enjoyed it, trying the dairy free lemon (quite tarte) and watermelon (sweet tasting) options which the staff told me were dairy free because they are fruit based sorbets. These sorbets have a richer, creamier consistency than traditional sorbet, being more like whipped ice cream. All the usual toppings are available ranging from healthy fruits to sweets and chocolates. I did notice there seemed to be fewer flavour options in the city centre location than at Newtownards Road. Perhaps more seating space and less dispensing machines. I will definitely return, but as it's now October, it may be the summer months before I visit this or any other frozen yogurt bar again. The novelty of frozen yogurt is beginning to wear off a bit for me. Also who wants to eat such cold food during icy winter months?! Fabulous when summer sun is shining, but possibly not an all year round activity. Maybe they should diversify into mulled wine over winter time...
