Shipped our car from Honolulu to Maryland. It took about 3 weeks & 3 days to get here. We paid for port to door, enclosed. Made shipping arrangements through phone with Alex Duran. We tried to ship our car on the 24th, but wasn't able to get the lien holder permission letter in time, since or car wasn't paid off yet, we don't have the title yet, so you'll need a Lien Permission letter/authorization. I was worried that Thanksgiving day and that Friday, Matson would possibly be closed, Alex said no worries and that we could drop our car to the Matson port anywhere from Nov 24th- Nov 30th. We flew out on Nov 30th, so we were worried if we would have enough time to bring our car to the Matson port for shipment. The Matson port is located at Sand Island in Honolulu. We ended up able to get our Lien Permission letter by the 25th and we were able to ship our car on Nov 25th. It was super easy, but only one person (need to wear your mask) is allowed in the Honolulu Matson office to do paperwork to drop off the car. Fast forward to today! We just got our car today in Maryland! It was enclosed and our car looked like the day we dropped it off, clean and unblemished. We did pay extra for enclosed, otherwise shipping your car from Hawaii to the mainland, it will only be enclosed in a shipping container from Hawaii to their pick up port in the West Coast, ours was LA. If you don't specify enclosed for throughout your auto transport, I believe from the West Coast port to your final destination, they will drive it in an "OPEN" Auto Transport carrier which is "unenclosed." I wouldn't have minded "open" auto transport IF we were shipping our car in the spring or summer time, but we moved during winter time here from Hawaii to Maryland, so I was worried about our car being exposed to the elements that winter time will bring, hail/snow/etc. It was worth it getting enclosed, our car arrived clean & unblemished. The auto transport truck drivers were super nice, too. TIPS & INFO from my experience; 1) PAYMENTS: you will make 3 payments through the time you make arrangements for your car to be transported to when you receive your car. First payment, when you book with Coastal Auto, they will take partial payment then, we paid with credit card. Second, you will pay another partial payment at time you drop off your car to the port to ship off, also paid with credit card, and thirdly, you will pay the Auto Transport carrier driver! They will ask you to pay the Auto Transport carrier driver in cash, cashiers check, or money order, but you can also pay credit card, but you have to contact Coastal Auto and they will take your payment by emailing you a DocuSign to make your payment online. We completely the payment the day before our car was to be delivered, and we had no problems at pick up. 2) PORT TO DOOR: we are military and we wanted to have them deliver our car to our address, but the auto carrier driver will inform you that they will be arriving with the enclosed carrier and they need space to maneuver, so instead of them delivering to our address which is on a military installation, we were able to quickly communicate with the truck driver and ended up meeting at a location near the military base, which was in a parking lot of a mall nearby which was clear and open. Throughout the process when they were ready to deliver, they communicated often through text or a call to inform/update you. We were able to pick up our car today, it is in pristine & clean condition as the day we dropped it off to port. The driver & assistant were super courteous and nice, and they were wearing their mask at all times. Since we paid Coastal Auto online yesterday, we just had to sign off some paperwork with the driver and off we go! 3) PAPER WORK: IF car is paid off, you will need your Title along with your car registration to show to Matson, IF your car is not paid off, if you're still making payments on a car loan for your vehicle, you will need a LIEN HOLDER PERMISSION LETTER from your loan company, ours was from Honda Financial, and you will have to call your INSURANCE company to update your car insurance to cover the estimated time your car will be in transport, you will have to give them a window/timeframe of how long it will take to arrive to final destination. You need to make sure your auto insurance will cover your car (if it's on an auto loan) during the time of auto transport. 4) CAR CONDITION: car needs to be thoroughly cleaned inside & outside and personal items must be taken out before shipping. Gas tank needs to be 1/4 full. 5) TIME DIFFERENCE: I think Coastal Auto is based out of Florida, so just keep that in mind when contacting them on the phone during their office hours. I communicated with Alex Duran, he was very responsive throughout the process. 6) MILITARY DISCOUNT: they offer Military discount! You just need to ask about it when you book with them. Edit: Still have not heard anything back from a "representative" ‍ Shipped a vehicle from the mainland to Hawaii. Was told to charge my car to 100% but once it reached the port in LB was told that they could not take my car in due to the percentage being too high. I had to run my ac all day and night to get it down to the needed % which was not only a waste but wear and tear on my car as well. Communication could've been so much better. I also may have forgotten to remove items under my trunk area which is now missing and they only left a note and never once reached out to me about it. It would be great to get my stuff back (which was mostly shoes) I'd even pay for the shipping, but no one even notified me that they were removing anything from my car. Only thing that was great was the time in which I received my vehicle in Hawaii, which was pretty quick. Shipped 2 cars from Hawaii to Florida. It was not a good experience at all. Bad communication and follow up from the company and the cars were late and arrived damaged. To top it off, they sent someone who spoke zero English to drop off the vehicles and the guy got aggresive with us to the point where we thought we were going to have to call the police. It was truly insane, I have never had to deal with such terrible customer service in my entire life, then we had to pay him a ton of cash for my damaged car with no resolution as of yet. It is expensive to ship cars, choose someone else who will treat you well and care about what happens to your vehicle when having to spend that kind of money. read more

Highly recommended - I shipped my car from Honolulu to Maryland in August 2017. My car arrived a week early and in great shape. Alex Duran was patient and provided more competitive pricing than Hawaii Car Transport and Transport Hawaii. I also recommend Coastal Auto Shipping since they take door-to-door responsibility for your vehicle thus avoiding any finger-pointing between the shipping company and long haul trucking company if there are any issues. A few pointers: 1) Use the Matson phone app to track when your vehicle hits the ground in California, and call Coastal to get a delivery ETA. They work with a network of auto shippers and will make sure you get connected with your truck driver. 2) You will have to pay the driver with cash, money order or cashier's check. PLAN ACCORDINGLY. You can get a money order from the post office for less than $2, but not on a Sunday. 3) If the driver cannot access the final destination (cough, military post), find a reasonable compromise such as a Walmart or Costco parking lot. The driver will require room to maneuver a large 40'+ auto transport rig and offload. 4) Be on time! The driver has a day full of deliveries scheduled and will have to reshuffle vehicles on his carrier if you are a no show appointment. You will have to trek out to some storage lot a few days later AND pay extra to get your vehicle - which you will deserve for the extra work and wait time you caused everyone else on the scheduled delivery day. 5) Inspect your car carefully and note any issues on the Bill of Lading *before* you sign. Your signature equals acceptance and contract closure. Finally, if your car arrived on time and in good shape, tip the driver :) read more

He provided me lots of free time and help in assisting me to resolve this. He truly is a one of a kind guy, who is here to help his customers, by having an impeccable character and doing the right thing ( you dont find people like this now a days very easily ). There rates are cheap, and they are very experienced, quick, and effective and shipping your car safely. Booked the shipment with Richard and once I paid the booking fee I got radio silence. These guys only work to get their brokers fee and then won't do the rest of their job. Super unprofessional and terrible at trying to help connect with drivers that are coming to pick up your car. Their excuse is "that's not their job". They're rude, unprofessional and lazy. My car arrived in perfect condition though but that's due to the third party shipping company that picked up the bid. The company was Affordable Auto Shipping and their service was great, I'd try and work directly with them if you could. First off let me say that for every bad review there are 100 good ones for every company. I've shipped 2 vehicles with this company. I live in Hawaii and shipped my first truck from California and my second from Florida. Luis is the agent that i dealt with. He's knowledgeable and very customer service oriented. 1st truck FLAWLESS transaction. 2nd truck here's where it gets messy, (NOT COASTAL AUTO's FAULT) heres the low down. So i book my second truck through Luis and this company, My truck was picked up by the transporter who failed to give me any type of inspection or paperwork, so i have pictures and videos taken at pick up showing no damages to my vehicle. I received my truck timely and i was shocked at the speed of delivery. Then i picked up my truck from the docks, only to find significant damages. I reached out to Luis who walked me through the process to file a claim. The insurance company sent an appraiser and approved my claim, but there was a 2500 dollar deductible that was the responsibility of the transporter. So i got the balance from the insurance company and was told that i would have to reach out to the transporter Cross Country Carriers Corp and they ignored me and pretended not to speak english. If i could find them on Yelp i'd tell the world not to use them. So i reached out to Luis for help which he had no luck, so i felt stuck with no options. Then i received a call from Coastal Auto Shipping, and they wanted information on my situation, within 15 minutes, Coastal Auto Shipping stepped in and paid the deductible. Class act company and I WILL USE THEM FOR ALL MY FUTURE SHIPPING NEEDS. My friends and family will all turn to these guys! AVOID! Scammers, no communication, shady business practices. Shipped my car from Honolulu Hawaii to Charleston South Carolina and everything seemed ok at first, but quickly went bad. Booking was easy, I was explained the total would be broken into 3 separate payments for which I could use my card. Fast forward to the day of drop off, easy peasy, it's sent on its way. But after that there is ZERO way to track the status of your vehicle and the communication is so poor. I finally get told hey your car is in transit and can be picked up in a few days, driver will contact you. The driver calls and I can hardly understand him. But he tells me to meet the next day with $1000 cash...uhm, what? Yes, I was aware I needed to pay upon pick up but I was exclusively told by the manager that my card could be used for all 3 payments. I didn't have access to a grand cash. So I call the manager up and explain and he gets super short with me and treats me like I'm a scumbag, "you knew you had to pay, what's the problem?!" UH NO. I'm paying, just not with cash & if that's an issue you need to tell people beforehand! I couldn't even believe how rude this guy was, and how unprofessional the driver was. I almost wasn't able to get my car because they refused my payment, but thankfully last second I grabbed my car. I hated this experience, I hate that I have this trash company even a penny of my money. read more

So I called coastal auto shipping and spoke with Gerson like everyone else here. We connected on the fact that I moved my car from Florida (diff company) where the company is based, I was looking to relocate again. He quoted me a price and then did the "but since you're blah blah blah" and took a little bit off the price. I told him I would shop around a bit more, he called back later to find out if I had any better prices, which I did, he decided to drop the price again saying he realized the car is small and it wouldn't take up too much space. Again, I just went along with the salesman pitch because I'm sure he knew the size of the car already since he's been in the business so long. Anyway I decided to go along with the company because I admired his dedication. I told him I was going to have my uncle take care of the payment because I wanted it to be one less thing I had to pay for. So he goes ahead and makes a booking with matson "to save a spot." My uncle takes a couple of days to send in his payment information but he finally does. The day comes to drop off my car and the lady tells me I owe $870.00. When I questioned Gerson on why the payment wasn't already taken care of with my uncles information, his response was " I'm pretty sure I told you there would be 3 separate payments." I ended up paying $870 out of my pocket when the whole entire point of waiting on my uncles payment information was BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO PAY. I'm 100% positive he could have paid for the port payment online. I did not have to do this when I shipped my car to Hawaii. So next, I tell him the car is scheduled to arrive in Cali on the 12th and asked will it still actually make it to Dallas like we originally anticipated. He said yes that would still be the plan it should arrive the same day I land, the 14th, it sounded pretty impossible but I just went with it. Soooo the 13th comes along and I get a call from Gerson who tells me, because Matson was late to the port by a day now my delivery was behind by two days. Now logically, by his earlier calculation how does one day late to the port equal to two days late delivery. Two days later come and I call the driver personally who tells me I have to wait another two days -_- now I must hold my breath and hope he actually does since I start work on that day. UPDATE: after this review, magically the driver contacts me and says he'll be on his way in an hour and I have to pay $400 at delivery so once again I'm perplexed. I speak with Alex, the manager of Coastal Auto Shipping. He explains to me the reason behind not having this payment taken care of is because they would need a credit card authorization form in order to take care of that payment. Something I would think would have been explained since day 1 when I uttered the words of my uncle taking care of the payment for me. He tried offering to have that credit card authorization done right away so I wouldn't have to worry about it but I refused because I knew it would be a hassle getting in touch with my uncle again. He also explained to me that the payment couldn't have been done online only over the phone and only worth authorization. Went online and saw that indeed it could have been done online. So yeah, mission save money Failed. Oh and thank you Alex for trying to fix things, my situation is unusual I'm sure but could have definitely been handled differently. read more

If you need to ship your car to Hawaii, don't do it. Coastal Auto Shipping advertises that they are the number one provider of Hawaii car shipping. I shipped a car with them from New York to Hawaii. They were great to deal with, Alex my agent was great. The cost was more than other companies but I thought I was getting a superior service. I shipped my father's car to my son in Hawaii. When I was cleaning out the car, I found my dad's old pair of Ray Ban Aviator sun glasses. I had such fond memories of my dad wearing them and looking so cool. I hide them in the car and thought they would make a great present for my son, he would love wearing his grandfather's sunglasses. When he picked up the car, it looked like someone ransacked the car.. Papers were in the back seat and in the glove compartment next to the steering well, the felt at the bottom was ripped out. That was were I hid the glasses., under the felt. There were little bottles of touch up paint in there as well and one was broken open. This was not a luxury car, this is a 2003 Lexus with 80,000 miles on it. When my son called me to tell me the car was a mess and the glasses are gone, I was so sad. I also felt so sick that someone would ransack an old car and steal from us. The glasses were hidden, they had to look hard. When you opened the cover compartment, it looked like nothing was in there. The car was also messy with papers in the back seat (they were not there when I left the car). I called Alex, our agent, he was upset and kind but there is really nothing he could do. The glasses are gone. So here is the moral of the story...don't leave ANYTHING in the car (hidden or not) and now I will NEVER ship a car again, and don't ship cars to Hawaii. Sell it and get a new car. We recently moved from the east to the west coast and shipped one of our cars. Our contact, Alek, was helpful throughout the process. The price was not the cheapest we got. However, our daughter had previously shipped a car from Boston to Hawaii with Coastal Auto Shipping and had a good experience so we chose a known entity over saving a couple of hundred dollars. The car arrived within the arrival window. There was a little weirdness with the driver when he called. He wanted us to drive 30+ miles pretty late at night to meet him him so he could turn around and go see family. Since we had paid extra to have the car delivered to our address, we said no. He quickly acquiesced but still wanted to make delivery that night. It was close to 11 when he pulled his large, noisy truck into the quiet cul-de-sac. Fortunately, he was able to unload the car quickly and, aside from the expected dust/dirt accumulation, it was in perfect shape. Items that we had left in the car were all there. The driver was nice in spite of not getting his way re the drop off. I will use Coastal Auto Shipping again if we ever have to ship a vehicle. I recommend them! read more

So this company had over 2 1/2 weeks to ship my car from PA to MS and could not get it accomplished. The worst part was the communication. They said they would be there and no one showed up without even a phone call and when we tried to call, no one answered. This happened so many times and eventually we had to cancel the order and had to have my mom drive down my car for me. I was able to get my 1994 Buick Roadmaster Wagon shipped from Hayward, CA to Hermiston, OR without any issues. I gave them very little notice and they were able to ship my vehicle within 24 hours. The driver was friendly and on time. The car was on the road for 48 hours or less and delivered on time without any problems whatsoever. Everything went well and Gerson was always in communication with me. It is unfortunate that the lack of reliability with dates is very stressful although I do believe it can't always be helped. I had a flight on a Tuesday morning expecting car to be picked up Monday and it was not picked up till Late Tuesday night. Maybe it's my problem but I absolutely hate imposing on anyone especially when the person helping is told Tuesday afternoon then called again and told," tomorrow morning" to which my friend demanded he come that night since he could not be available the next day. Driver showed up at 10pm Tuesday night. Car was delivered to me in NY Saturday night 10pm. I think the drivers may be adding on cars after plans are made between you and broker resulting in delays.
