We decided to call the office at around 3pm and they gave us detailed instructions on how to return the keys and where to park as they would be closed at 5pm. You took a grinder to the stud and just installed 2 bolts, you left one broken bolt in, you should have used a extractor tool and removed the bold, your poor and irresponsible work was my issue, you failed to do the right thing, I made the purchase and I understand what I was buying, your job was to properly fix the truck and take care of the issue, you decided to take a shortcut and cheap out on your work resulting in more damage. We called and after getting a bit of a runaround on the phone and getting put on hold a couple of times, we got through and reserved our 16' truck. We showed up at 7:15 am to pick up the truck and the person who helped us, Monica, couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. She got us on our way with a smile. I had some trepidation about driving a big truck but it was very easy! It was a Isuzu with the cab over the engine so visibility was great. The large truck handled surprisingly well. We got to Mountain View, loaded up the truck and drove to Berkeley with no trouble at all. I returned the truck this morning and had a very easy time driving down 880 from Berkeley. Note: even floored, the top speed of the truck is 65 mph. I brought it back and even got a refund from my estimated cost. All in all, a very good experience if you have to rent a truck.

Initially we had a low promotional rate of about $70 for a month. Then the rate returned to the normal rate of $149/month. All was good for a little more than half a year until they decided to do a rate hike. A $100 rate hike, with a small 30 day notice. On top of that they don't make it easy to cancel. The app doesn't have a number to call. You have to send an email and there isn't an option to cancel there, only a contact us form. The letter about the hike in price states rising facility costs and current rental market conditions along with other factors. I highly doubt a 67% increase is warranted given the stated reasons.

We've rented from Hengehold twice for Burning Man, 2024 (15' box truck) and 2025 (24' box truck)…read more We've had bad experiences with other rental companies in the past (U-Haul, Enterprise, you name it) so we wanted to go with a local company that seemed to invest a lot in a great customer experience. The first time had no issues. The second time, the truck failed on us Friday night [more details are below], and we had to get a last-minute rental from Enterprise, while also locating a parking lot where we could leave the faulty truck. Hengehold was not reachable because they are not open on the weekends. Then, we had to spend time/energy unloading and reloading a new truck, and a friend had to stick around on Monday to eventually get that truck towed. Hengehold refunded us the full amount. Knowing the Burning Man general schedule (which is the same every year), and as a business that must draw in a ton of revenue from the event, I'm surprised that they are not open on that Saturday/Sunday to help with these issues and provide replacements. I'm leaving 2 stars here (instead of 1) because their customer service (when they're open) has been easy to talk to and work with (including the refund part), and because we still had a positive experience the first time. We will still consider renting with them in the future. ================== More details on the second time --- We drove the truck from Palo Alto to San Francisco on Friday, and spent the day loading in our supplies. We drove the truck out that night from SF headed towards Reno, and within 1 mile it started malfunctioning. The dash said there was an SCR malfunction (see picture) & the truck started beeping. We called a technician (not affiliated with Hengehold, since it was out of hours) who spent an hour with us running tests and said there was a clogged DEF catalytic converter. He hypothesized that possibly 1) just over time they wear down or 2) bad DEF in there that caused it to happen faster than normal timeline. He said there would be large overhaul of the system needed and that it was not fixable over night. "It's absolutely not getting to Reno". When we started driving again it wouldn't go more than 2 mph.
