Today the high winds up there swirled snow and clouds almost vertically. To the right in this view is Longs Peak in RMNP. To the left is the Indian Peaks Wilderness area due west of Boulder. You might not use this this approach to Boulder on a weekday commute in when it will likely be bumper to bumper going very slow for several miles. And a bit dangerous with snow and ice and high winds at ground level. But on a beautiful clear dry winter day, it is classic and how so many people see Boulder for the very first time.

This trail goes to/from the Thornton/Northglenn area to/from the Westminster area. The entire trail is around 10 miles of smooth concrete that passes mainly through parks, open spaces and quiet neighborhoods with a few large parking lots around the middle point of the trail.

It connects Jay Road to the industrial parks and residential areas east of 30th street.There is also something so satisfying to me to ride on dirt and yet not fear for safety. Bikes pass me all the time but occasionally I get to pass some riders. There are dog walkers and runners out there too and some are more considerate than others to keep their dogs under control. I find that even the professional style riders most all are considerate of riders like me. Thank you. You can ride out and back from some nearby neighborhood and at Independence Road crossover to the dirt Trail. There is a RTD stop literally at the Jay Road end so you could walk the trail or take your bike on the bus rack to ride. People like me who live too far to ride out or do not have access to this bus route, can easily park in the lot at the trail head on Independence Rd. I have always found space.

This is a local attraction in Boulder Canyon that I have visited occasionally since 1974 but…read more probably not in the last 20-30 years. With out of town guests who wanted to see it, we went up with them today which was hot even by 9am. Not ideal for me. There was adequate parking in a small lot on the south side of the Canyon, just before the crossover to the entrance to the short but steep hike.Being a Monday morning, not very busy. Be aware that weekends are extremely busy and not enough parking. I believe that the trail has been improved some over the years from our past memory of it. There are actually some steps cut into the steepest of the rock surfaces and some heavy duty chain handrails in the areas with he steepest drop off. We saw little kids as well as grandparents. so if I can still do it, many others can. Cooler weather would have been nice. The waterfall is quite pretty. It was roaring even in a drought because of a few heavy rains last weekend and such hot weather in this climate change era that the snow pack in the mountains is melting too quickly this summer. A must see if you are visiting this area. A many athletes do visit too.

You'll walk adjacent to a number of homes, park, and schools. Frequent trash cans and exits to enter the neighborhoods. Wasn't seeing any trash which is a plus. Just one of the many open space/walking/biking trails you'll see throughout Colorado. Occasionally you'll see some locks signage explaining which part of the trail you are on. Think historic setting and whatnot but otherwise it's a walking, exercise, skating trail like anywhere else within the state. You could have a good time riding the entire trail or adding sections into your regular workout route. Well paved and maintained as I mentioned before regarding trash cans and dog poop bag stations throughout. One reviewer mentioned noise but maybe they have the incorrect Yelp listing? Or their closest part of the trail to close to a loud highway. My only advice is to wear sunscreen. Vitamin C told me that once.

I started at the Gold Strike Park in Arvada and there was parking as well as a connection to the Clear Creek Trail. This trail is paved and runs through number of parks in Arvada/Wheat Ridge. There is a gentle, almost subtle incline as you ride west. The creek of course is flowing downward in the opposite direction. I had no trouble using the big chain ring on my road bike and the return ride was a snap, with its gentle decline. The trail is mostly well marked and zigs and zags across the river. There is pedestrian traffic and not too many long straight stretches, so your top speed is limited. The trail runs on a few residential streets here and there. If you lose the trail, just keep going in the same direction and you'll pick it up shortly. Overall it's a fun, pleasant ride that I highly recommend. Suitable for families (although I'd start at one of the municipal parks that it intersects for the playground) and also for walking your dog. My total altitude gain over the nine miles up was only 410 feet, according to my Garmin. There are a few porta-potties along the way. A few water fountains too, at the park areas. This trail is perfect for an easy Saturday morning ride!
