Came here to experience the express lunch which I thought is pretty good value. A main dish with a glass of house wine and a coffee to finish.
I was offered the drink whilst I was waiting for my friend to turn up, good touch and attentive waiter. There were a fair few waiters floating around the restaurant for a lunch trade, suppose that's the difference it being a restaurant within a hotel.
The restaurant is a great space on the ground floor of an international hotel, obviously it will cope with a full house if all guests turn up. The ambience is subdued and rather dark where we sat away from the big windows on the northern side. There were 3 big 'booths' across from where I sat but it was only set up for 4, very spacious indeed. Our table is one of tables for 2 with a long bench seat on one side and single seats facing.
The house wine is acceptable and drinkable and there were choice of 2 whites and 2 reds. There are 4 mains to choose from, vegetarian, fish, pork and beef. It may not be the normal mains size but it was perfect for lunch. We ordered a duck fat chips to go with our main which is an extra cost to the package lunch. You are welcomed to have extras from the a la carte menu, which we decided to have a dessert to go with our coffee. Smart move to offer coffee after the meal to entice customers to have 'something ' to go with the coffee! As we were not in the rush, we were happy to have the creme brûlée which we shared. The serve was very generous but I didn't think the 'creme' was that great, not the pure creme but made with flour, what a disappointment. That aside, the toffee on the top 'cracked' well.
Will I go back? Yes for a good value lunch but will not be tempted to have the 'extras'. read more
