Update: I believe the owner has handled this situation with arrogance and intimidation. Yes, we…read moresigned the papers--It doesn't surprise me that he would try to rehash everything publicly rather than take some constructive criticism. I only intended to leave an honest review of our experience with IBA. I stand by my one-star review. As our broker, their job was to represent us and get us the best deal possible--not just push a deal through. The buyers already had their own agent. It became clear that closing the transaction quickly was the priority--not our best interests. That's not just poor service--it's unethical. Mortgage lenders need to know whether they're financing a home or a business. Blurring those lines to push a deal through isn't just questionable--it's potentially harmful. We were not properly represented, and we paid the price for it. I recently posted an honest review about my experience with IBA and noticed they still have a 5-star rating. I probably wouldn't have checked back--except I received a letter from an attorney representing IBA. Here's what it said: "They are chagrined that you posted an online review of IBA suggesting otherwise, and we demand that you remove the review you recently made of IBA NW Business Brokers on Google." To be clear, I shared a truthful account of my own personal experience. I did not name the broker involved, nor did I exaggerate any details. It was a simple, honest, one-star review summarizing what was, for me, a very disappointing experience. I don't appreciate being pressured to remove it. A company that can't accept fair criticism without resorting to legal threats raises serious concerns. There are many business brokers in the Northwest--I'd encourage others to do their research and choose one who values transparency and accountability. Original review: I recently worked with a broker from IBA to sell our business and home together, as the business operated on our property. My daughter and I had one chance to sell the small business we built and dedicated ourselves to for ten years, and unfortunately, we were met with disregard and a lack of respect throughout the entire process. The very first interested buyers ended up purchasing it. While it turned out to be a great deal for them, it was not in our best interest. We felt misled and unsupported from start to finish. If you're a small business owner, I would strongly caution against using this firm. In our experience, their practices were misleading and did not prioritize our needs as sellers.

IBA did a great job helping us sell our business. Selling a business is a long and sometimes…read morestressful process but Vishal Punj did a excellent job of explaining the process. We can't speak highly enough of Vishal and IBA!

The Onward weekend conference was a lovely blend of informative speakers and yoga, along with lovely conversation and motivated entrepreneurs to mingle with. I found a lot in common with those in attendance and even met up with a group of them post-conference to discuss the similarities between our collective vision. Upon arriving, the space was decorated beautifully and our seating was all comfy cozy. I felt tuned in and attentive during the whole presentation and was never bored. We received a lot of awesome handouts to take home and keep as a guide, which was awesome! They even raffled off a website build! Worth the Journey truly knows how to make the process of creating and amplifying a business more pleasurable by integrating play and a lightheartedness to the stressful, overwhelming entrepreneurial process. In summary: I was seeking new opportunities in my field of UX design, had built an impressive portfolio but was consistently failing to communicate my work in a way that resonated with hiring managers. I had gone through 12 unsuccessful interviews before I decided it was time to seek some professional and objective advice. What I appreciated most about the mock interview with Lora was that she never tried to steer me away from being myself...she gave me practical tools to make sure that I was able to speak on my own behalf and recognize the intention behind every interview question. Long story short, I found myself with an offer letter about three weeks after our session in a role that is perfect for my professional development. If you're in a tough or confusing spot, don't make decisions based on the cost of services--just find someone who you trust that understands your goals and needs and it will pay off a thousand times in the future. Plum served that purpose for me and I can't reccomend their services highly enough.

It is a workshop, so you really are encouraged to bring a laptop and check things out for yourself as she walks you through how you want your profile to appear, how to contact people you are already connected to, and how to make new connections particularly to the people who make hiring decisions. I think you'll get more out of the workshop if you are able to do some homework beforehand, like get a Linked In account, and perhaps read Lora's blog posts. I liked that she asked folks to say what they were hoping to get out of the workshop, and then circled back at the end to make sure these things were covered. People came with many issues: out of the workforce for a decade, new to the Seattle area, trying to transition to a new industry, etc. I felt Lora was deft at handling these particular concerns with strategies that could be used through Linked In. I also have to say that I'm very familiar with software. I'm very familiar with web sites. But, I was not familiar with how recruiters and hiring managers used Linked In, and it was helpful to see things from their perspective. So, if you are holding off on doing this because you think it's just software and just a website, I think you'll still find value. This workshop was the first thing I did with Plum Consulting and Lora, but it left me with a favorable impression of the tenacity to expect from their other services.
