Tight parking lot & totally full on a Friday morning; I immediately regretted driving a truck to this car park. The selection was what you'd expect from a larger Sainsbury's but the store is not nearly as large as it looks from outside. We found everything we needed for the weekend plus some. Excellent improvement on the local grocery store!

Tesco, Newmarket has just removed a large number of manned check-outs and replaced them with D.I.Y…read more ones - Why? This means that staff jobs will be cut back and you are annoying the hell out of customers in the process. Staff were very kindly offering to help and encourage customers to use the D.I.Y. checkouts and in my hearing 8 out of 10 customers said 'no'. they'd rather wait for a manned checkout. Presumably this decision has been made by your extremely well paid Managing Director at head office who is not interested in his staff or his customers but only in making more profit for himself and his shareholders, Has he really thought through the image he is creating that the Tesco brand is all about fleecing the general public. I like this Tesco especially because the prices are very low, the produce is always fresh and their meat selections are always nice. They have a pretty large dairy and cheese section as well, my two favorites. Their alcohol section is pretty good. I have never had a problem not finding what I needed at this store. They have a lovely florist section. Their Tesco brand foods and products are high quality. I usually chose them over any other food and product brands. The customer service is outstanding, I can't say enough good things about this Tesco, except it gets really crowded and is a mad house on Saturdays, I steer clear of it on that day. They have good sales and the food is always fresh.

The food is more expensive than the other supermarkets as they do not have a value range or a wide reange of own products. The staff are always friendly and there never seems to be significant queues. There is a self scan system, meat and cheese counter. There is also a cafe that serves a range of hot meals, cakes and sandwiches.. The downside is the location. Unfortunately you cannot turn right out of the carpark which means a detour if of you need to go in that direction. The carpark can also jam and there are not many places near the front of the shop.

Small, but well stocked, it has just about everything I would expect to find in a grocery store this size, and then some. There are items I am familiar with from the US, but more importantly there are items that are familiar with the location - which I have enjoyed to peruse. Whether it has been needing milk, cereal, coffee, creamer, beer, booze, bananas...you get the picture - they have it. It's always been a pleasure buying there as the staff has been friendly and patient with me during the checkout process - a big plus for me. As a side note, I was surprised to see how good and extensive a craft beer offering they have - much better, and actually way better than any store of comparable size in the US - it has been a pleasure picking out local craft beer to enjoy throughout this trip. The place is definitely frequented by locals and it is well-deserved...

Tesco play up this fact, especially with their petrol prices. Despite the price of oil having come back down to last year's prices, we are still paying more for our petrol. The store itself is kept clean and well-stocked. Staff are always willing to help with anything you need, such as locating an item. The new addition of a Costa coffee shop and the opticians make it literally a one-stop shop.

The range of food here is really good for a small town location. Prices are good and there is a lot of choice. The vegetables are fresh and last a long time. They also have flowers and usually some plants. They have a good baby section with different types of nappies. The fresh bread and cakes are also plentiful. The product range at the Budgens is far superior to the co-op which is around the corner. There is a large car park and also a car jet wash available.
