I attempted to adopt an older cat, after finally getting approved, the day I was to get him was an extremely cold snowy day. A feral cat that comes to me for food was again at my door, too afraid to come in. I called two hours before appointment to let them know what I was doing and they were very understanding. Another bad weather day I was to meet them at petsmart. I live in camillus and went to that one since they know I live there and the volunteer never once said which one, she was in clay when I called from camillus location. She then wanted me to drive to her house which I said I couldn't get there since I had a ride. I got a text that she was done with me and would give the cat to someone else. I just wanted to send you a "Big Thank You". The process of adopting Snowy (cat) from you and your foster organization - NYCATCOAL was efficient, smooth and quick. I appreciated it because I was so looking forward to having her join me and my family quickly. As a family member now, she is wonderful, a doll. Snowy is adapting quickly. Within a couple of hours she was walking around, eating and doing her necessities in her litter box. She follows me around like a puppy. She is still getting use to Bentley (dog) but has no issues with him. And he, none at all with her. We have set Snowy up for a general vet appointment for Tuesday, April 22nd. Basically, to establish a relationship with her and the Rockaway Veterinary Service Vets. Thank you once again for putting your trust in me and my family. Our adoption of Snowy is a serious and lifetime commitment regardless of anything to us. We are hoping that our reimbursement/contribution of $300 dollars which is nominal will help save other cats like Snowy. In the future, I would like to donate to your cat fostering organization. I am unhappy with this organization. If their goal is to adopt the rescues, they sure make it difficult. Delays, excuses. I perfectly understand they are busy and adopters need to be vetted. Also it is a totally volunteer organization. So if you have an issue with the foster parent, you have no recourse. I am not going to name names but I had a big problem the foster parent. I will be looking for another rescue organization asap. read more

HUGE FRUD PROGRAM THATS RUNNING HERE!!!!!! Going through this process I had so many red flags and I really wish I followed my gut! Hides fees, will not give you a citrusy call if something goes wrong in surgery... they will just add more fees, rude desk people if you're able to get ahold of someone are unhelpful. I tried to cancel my appointment after a family emergency came up, and wouldn't refund my payment. Because they said I didn't give them a 48 hour notice. I called the Monday prior to her Saturday appointment. Left a message multiple time. More than once that I couldn't bring her In. After playing phone tag this week it dose not show up in their system that no one called or their wasn't a message left! By the costume survive I received I would NEVER TRUST my dog bing their or under their care! read more

They denied my application for a kitten because I offered an indoor/outdoor home. They didn't bother to call my vet or references. If they did they would know that I just dropped 1500 on one of my cats dentals at Stacks. CNYCat Coalition needs to be more flexible when rehoming cats. Tia Torres of Pit Bulls and Parolees realizes the value of flexibility- they will now home dogs to people that don't have fenced in yards. The CNY cat coalition needs to follow suit with flexibility and work with people- I even offered a straight up come to my home and see what I have to offer check- they didn't even bother. It's their way or the highway and they know best (they think they do). I'm angry and disappointed that I was labeled and prejudged by this "rescue". I even offered a grand for the kitten- they could have put that money to rescuing more cats but then they claimed that they don't sell cats. They are biting their nose to spite their face and this is why people do not support rescues because the conditions of adopting an animal are unrealistic and unreasonable. I will NEVER support another "rescue" and I will continue to rescue myself as I have done now for twenty years- These sanctimonious rescues think that they are the only ones that know how to care for and take an animal to a vet for shots and neutering. Get real! Work with people and find homes for these animals instead of being all high and mighty thinking you know what's best for the animal. I vow I will rescue another cat on my own without the help of this in-the-Dark Ages "rescue". I should have known better than to try and work with them because they go around and trap people's cats (with bait stations- if they see the same cat at the food aka bait station three times they ASSUME the cat is a stray) and then adopt them out for money. It almost happened to one of my cats when I bought my home in 2016 but I was able to get my cat back and they denied being involved but I found out that it was one of their well meaning volunteers that took my cat- they thought my 12 year old neutered male was a kitten and brought him to a vet to be neutered but the vet knew what was up and that the cat (my cat) was obviously owned. Do not give this organization ANY support- I will actively campaign against this organization and get people to find animals that need homes without the "help" of this scam organization. Rant over-go rescue your own cat and take it to SANS or get a Friends of Animals certificate for a cheap spay and neuter- vaccination clinics or tractor supply offer the vaccines for cheap. Don't waste your time with this place- do not give them your money. If you care about rescue just do it yourself- they say that if you want something done right, you do it yourself. I'm 100% a dog person but decided on adopting a cat because the BF likes cats, I like cats, and our current work schedule doesn't allow us to take a dog out for frequent walks. We adopted 2-year old Olive after seeing her posted on Pet Finder thru the CNY Cat Coalition. She was a mother to four kittens and was found in the bushes by a dog whose family became her fosters for several months prior to her adoption. It's a $65 suggested donation to adopt. You need 3 references and an application. The adoption process took a long time for us (longer than their normal process) because Olive needed to get spayed and she had a heart murmur that needed some investigation. Communication on all these issues was done thru a middlewoman who worked for CNY CC and helped connect me with the fosters. My cat's spay got delayed twice. The date Olive was supposed to be brought to us was delayed as well. The CNY Cat Coalition lady said she'd bring the cat but we ended up having to pick her up ourselves from the fosters. Other than the delay in adoption, I am 120% happy about my experience because Olive has been an amazing addition to our home. She is sweet, gentle and has adapted so quickly to her new home. We couldn't have asked for a better pet. I fell in love with Olive's description partly because it said she gets along with dogs! This way, I know she can grow with us as a family. Adopting Olive was the best decision! I'd urge everyone to adopt. There are lots of wonderful and loving cats waiting for a loving home. read more

I recently contacted the CNY Cat Coalition regarding a feral cat I was feeding. I was looking for assistance with trapping the cat and finding a place for him as winter was coming upon us. Although they answered my emails, they never offered assistance, never once did I receive a word of encourgement or gratitude for trying to rescue a feral. If they are going to continue, they need to regroup, reorganize and live up to their mission statement. I understand it's all volunteer but, they need volunteers that are willing to help, recruit others that can help and figure out how to run a non-for-profit. read more

These people are very rude and not helpful. I asked them for help with some strays in my garage. I was hoping to find an economical way to get 5 kittens and mom spayed - neutered - vaccinated. When they finally returned my call the lady was very rude, taking a condescending and dismissive tone with me. I ended up trapping the cats myself and taking them to Spay and Neuter Syracuse who helped me get all of them fixed. They still live in my garage but at least they aren't reproducing or getting sick. FWIW Humane CNY were the ones who suggested SANS and didn't give me a bunch of attitude either. read more

Very disappointed in this organization. I realize rescue is very hard. However, it is unacceptable to for a rescue to say that they will do something, then not follow through. When trying to learn why they did not do what they said (set up live traps for dumped cats with winter coming) they ignored calls. Offering to pick up the slack they left, they would not answer a call for only direction on how to proceed. I really hate anything being done poorly, but this organization handled this situation even less than poorly. If they can't do what they set themselves up to do, they need to minimize their public presence. Their lack of attention and follow-through just caused the death of one of these cats and who knows what will happen to the others. read more
