Liza and Daryl are great. They initally came to my house as a team to take measurements and see the place to provide me with a quote for services. I used them to repair some water damage to my ceiling and to re-caulk my tub. Daryl did the caulking on the tub and did a great job. Jose came and repaired/painted the ceiling. He showed up on time, did an excellent job, and left no mess. I have since used them again for another small project of moving power from a wall light to a standard outlet, with patching and painting. Their electrician did exactly as I asked, and Jose again did a great job painting. He initially did one coat, and I requested that a second be done, and they worked around my schedule and had Jose come back out to paint no problem. Liza was able to provide me with a quote via email, and she responds to emails quickly. I will definitely use them for future projects. Their prices are reasonable, and they take on the small tasks that most contractors don't want to bother with. I'm pretty sure Daryl is a licensed contractor. They also worked on Saturdays for me which is a must and a HUGE plus. read more

I must admit that it takes a little while to get used to a dependable contractor. CMRS emails you a schedule every evening...and then actually shows up when they promise. They provide a real contract, with a payment schedule. There is a staff to respond to your emails and calls. The email system is very helpful if you're a busy person and don't have time to make phone calls. I would send emails in the middle of the night and have my answer by the morning (or sometimes in the middle of the night if Liza was up late). I think their prices are higher than just hiring a handyman but as they say, "You get what you pay for." CMRS is licensed, insured, bonded and experienced, things that should really figure into your decision making process. Daryl and his crew (Randy, Edwin and Jose) were all polite, hardworking and professional. Jose does great drywall and is extra tidy. I never met Liza or Gretchen in person but they were both great communicators on the phone and through emails. Our project turned out much nicer than we ever imagined, I won't hesitate to hire CMRS for my next project! read more

Had an absolutely excellent experience working with Daryl. We worked with him for a garage-to-office conversion and were very pleased with the ease of the whole process. Daryl listened to our needs well and offered great recommendations when required. Very professional all around, with beautiful and precise work. We will stay in contact with Daryl and have already made recommendations to others. Thanks again! read more

I had a really good experience the first time I used them. Unfortunately, the second time was very different. There was a person, Liza, involved the first time who was great about communication and she was not involved the second time. I think Daryl's work is probably fine. I just think you need to really be clear with the timeline and expectations. I am very disappointed because I thought I had found a solid contractor. read more

Daryl is great! Very professional and fair in pricing. Very detailed and through and I didn't have to chase him around for a single thing! We used him for minor repair projects around our condo building and he did a great job on advising us as to the most cost efficient and longest lasting methods of repair. Cleaned up nicely after himself and is a pleasure to chat with! read more

I worked with CMRS Construction in late 2013 to remodel an investment duplex in El Sereno. The remodel was extensive. A ton of termite rot. The remodel included two new kitchens, two new bathrooms; as well as, refinish and repair of wood flooring, interior and exterior painting, electrical panel upgrade, and new HVAC system. It was an extensive project and the quality of the workmanship was great. As expected and normal due unforeseen construction items, the project went a bit over budget. I've worked with Daryl and CMRS for a number of years. Happy to recommend them and work with them on my next project. They are competitive, perhaps not always the lowest bid but honest and stand by their workmanship, so to me, paying a bit more to have the peace of mind that the finished product will be what I expected is worth it. read more

I am writing this review for Daryl and Liza based off of their very speedy replies and excellent communication. Unfortunately i haven't had them come out for the projects as both projects that I contacted them about have either been postponed or no longer needed, but they have been excellent in replying via e-mail and getting me very quick reasonable quotes within the first hour that I have contacted them. So far I would have to recommend these guys based purely off the fact that they are so easy to get a hold of and so responsive, as well as very reasonable pricing. I will be in touch with them in the very near future as I have many ongoing projects. read more

Covered 1-car carport construction, including demo of old carport; rebuild of 15' x 15' deck, demo of existing decking and joints; added deck supports, railing, paint etc. Liza in the front office makes the whole thing work: she is excellent at communicating about whats going on with your job, what to expect, when to expect it etc. Generally, these guys show up when they say they will and do what they say they will do. -- which is rare. Quality of work is excellent. A few minor issues which came up where handled promptly. Overall: a positive experience, no issues, fair price. read more

We had a terrible back yard and wanted to build a deck, a large pergola and to cover the existing broken concrete to make a patio surrounding our existing jacuzzi. From the moment we started working with Liza and Daryl we could not have been happier. Daryl came over to see the project, then came back with guys from his excellent crew to discuss each aspect of the job. They took measurements, talked about our options and then Liza sent us a quote within two days. I can't say enough great things about their crew. Daryl did oversee the job and checked in often as the crew completed the project. Corey built most of the deck and pergola. He did an amazing job as did Randy who worked on the deck and built our new fence. David came to put our pavers in over our broken concrete. Once again we could not have asked for a better job. David had to move on to another job, but Mario came to finish up the grouting. At each step of the way, if we had any questions or needed something changed slightly, the whole team would discuss it with us. Daryl and/or Liza would come out as well and address any concerns we might have had along the way. Also, they did extra things for us at no cost to improve the final appearance of the project. Daryl even came over Thanksgiving Day morning to help us move our Jacuzzi cover. We highly recommend them and will use them again for our next project. read more

CMRS was extremely responsive and helped me out with several projects. Daryl was knowledgeable, professional and got the job done quick. He was able to remove a load bearing wall, situate my plumbing and electrical, and gave advice and referrals. I highly recommend CMRS. read more

Some things you don't want to watch happen - making laws, sausage and kitchen remodels. This was a very difficult job beause of structural limitations, Plus, I had contracted with the cabinet and floor companies before I hired CSMRS to handle the whole job - never a good idea. Plus, when I interviewed Daryl, he had a partner who handled the backshop and planning. When the job started, his partner had left and Daryl had to do it all himself, which I think slowed him down. In spite of all this, Daryl solved every problem that came up, installed every item, made everything work, and presented me with the high quality kitchen I was hoping for on time and on budget. And he took care of the very few touch ups right a way. He is the best (just hired him for everything) read more

The customer service is incredibly efficient and quick! Email response time is to the point, polite, and thorough. I initially contacted them a couple years ago for a quote. When the work was no longer necessary I forgot to follow-up and only recently remembered to contact them to make sure all loose ends were tied up. Not only did they go through files over two years old but they STILL provided me the same quality service, care, and quick attention to every detail! read more

Update: contracted CMRS for miscellaneous work (putting up a fence and gate, installing fixtures in the house, etc.), and Daryl did another stellar job. He is our go-to guy. Very pleased. read more

Turned out to a be flake did not return phone messages and didn't have the curiosity follow up.

CMRS Construction is very easy to work with. No matter what I needed done, they've always come through quickly AND with great workmanship. They consistently go beyond my expectations and are VERY knowledgeable with every task they work on. I've used many many contractors in the past and have always been disappointed or have had problems. CMRS was and has been the complete opposite. This is why I'm a loyal return customer. I recommended them to all my friends. read more

You cannot go wrong hiring CMRS Construction. They are terrific, have a great work ethic, do quality work are reliable and very reasonable. If you want to hear more, read on... I have had a long simmering project to remodel the kitchen and construct a ground floor room addition. I am still in the permit stage and have not yet gone forward but in the meantime I needed my 1928 Craftsman era house completely painted (outside) and a new HVAC (AC/Heating) system installed. I obtained about 8 references from friends/acquaintances for contractors to do both the remodel/house addition and the smaller stuff - painting/HVAC. I met with all of them. I clicked with some more than others but in general I was not overly impressed - there was either too much ego (i.e. contractor/designer who pushed back about my design ideas) or seemed flaky ('Gee, I don't know if that's a structural wall or not...') or clearly didn't want the job (i.e. one noodle head quoted me $34,000 to paint my house!!!!). What many of these referred contractors had in common -- and this will come as no surprise to most homeowner's -- is that the majority of them don't return emails or phone calls in a timely manner, didn't show up on time, the usual litany of deeply annoying behavior that makes you feel like you are being held hostage to an idiosyncratic personality who is going to invade your house... So, I did what everyone tells you NOT to do, cold call someone. Out of frustration I turned to Yelp figuring that I might as well since all of the referred contractors felt like they were just too much work to deal with. SO I came across CMRS right here on Yelp. I called and lo and behold actually got a return call. Liza and Daryl (and Gretchen in the office and Randy and Raoul, Ian and Marco on the ground) are just terrific. Hard working, quality work, very reasonable pricing - no surprises - all work agreed upon beforehand so nothing comes at you out of left field. And very flexible with making suggestions for various remedies if something proves to be too expensive. I hope I get the permit to do the kitchen and room addition because I really can't wait to work with them again. To be continued.... :) read more

The short take is that Liza and Daryl head a great team at CMRS. They are great communicators, the workers are efficient and friendly, the work product is quality and their pricing might not be the cheapest, but if you factor in peace of mind, they are exceedingly reasonable. The long take is that I had two bathrooms that needed overhauling as the first step in a multi-project freshening up of a disastrously decorated house. Liza was communicating daily with updates and verification/double/triple checks of things. She even faithfully sent progress photos and commentary of the schedule or the plan while I was on vacation out of the country. Both she and Daryl knew when to offer a litany of options and when to dial back when I came up with the ideas on what I'd like to see. If we progressed and issues came up, they were quick to notify me and advise best, cheap, proper, ideal, whatever solution you could need/want. When it comes to advice, they offered materials locations like tile centers, et al, that sometimes worked and sometimes didn't but even chatting with the stores that I didn't buy from, they all echoed the sentiment that CMRS is quality, ethical, and speedy efficient. I can't comment for all people or for all experiences, but contractors are one of those generally lowly-regarded section of people. I was getting frustrated with just the process of selecting one since it seemed like you'd arrange something and they'd mysteriously be abducted by aliens, ALL OF THEM. I'm sure that most, once you can get a hold will do a passable/good/great job but what I've really enjoyed about my experience with CMRS, and why I feel like they stand out, are a couple of things: 1. the people who work on your projects are cheerful and friendly, they don't hide in a corner, and they will ask you when they have questions to make sure that it's done the way you want it; 2. their ability to communicate in the way that's most responsive to your needs is spot on - I didn't work with a designer and I didn't have an absolutely set in stone idea to start from and they were great about pointing out the + and - of each idea. even though they like to get things underway and be proactive, they were patient when I hemmed and hawed. when things were fully decided, they made sure that everyone from me to the office to the workers were clear on what should go on; 3. just the general trust that they instilled by showing up when they say they will, doing things appropriately, being enthusiastic on what the project can turn out to be, working hard and providing a great finished product. that's the biggest thing for me is that I felt like i could trust them at each and every step of the way. read more

We discovered a shower pan crack in November - the first contractor that came to take a look wrecked our relationship with our home insurance company and disappeared. Daryl at CMRS was one of the only contractors to come and look at our problem and gave us a good estimate to completely rebuild an all tile shower from the studs. A couple of scheduling hiccups later (not really anyone's fault), they got started in mid-February and finished in two weeks - as promised. Our shower looks great, they kept the mess to a minimum (tile debris, hot tar, tile dust, plaster, etc...), we didn't need to watch them, and the guys who worked on the project were all great. The only nit-picky issue I had was a tiny little bit of base molding didn't get replaced and I'm going to do it myself - otherwise, a really well done job. read more

Had a very good experience working with CMRS Construction and Daryl... I had a 25 year old rotting and termite infested redwood deck that needed replacing. Originally I thought I wanted to replace it with redwood as it was originally done. Daryl came out and gave me a quote to do that as well as another quote for a different tropical hard wood that is supposedly even more harder then redwood. After talking to another contractor, that contractor convinced me that Trex was the way to go to help eliminate, or at least greatly reduce, future maintenance as well as termite and other wood rot issues. So I went back to Daryl and asked if he could also to a Trex deck and he said yes indeed he could. So he redid his proposal with a Trex option. Although far more expensive than the hardwood proposals from him, he was far less than any other contractor for a Trex option. so I went ahead and signed with Daryl... the work took longer than originally thought, but in the end I am very happy with the end result and will certainly look to Daryl in the future for any other needs that may come up. read more

If you're looking for a general contractor, I would highly recommend Daryl Vidal of CMRS (California Maintentance Repair Services.) I used Daryl Vidal when I needed my deck resurfaced. He was extremely professional, did the job in a timely manner and did outstanding work. Not only was the estimate very reasonable, it turned out to be exactly what I was quoted when the final bill came. Between Daryl doing the work and partner Liza handling the administrative details, I could not be happier with the job done, and plan to use them for any other work I need done. read more

I have a back porch 10'x30' deck that was built about 3 ft above ground. Somehow it started to sink and the original contractor is no where to be found. Called a lot of construction companies and none seems to to be able to give me a satisfactory solution, or they charge A LOT for the job. CMRS came to the rescue. They are professional and very knowledgeable. Finished the job on time. Their price is very reasonable. I just have them back to put in some indoor and outdoor handrailings. This will be the ONLY company I will call for any future jobs related to my house, big or small. read more

CMRS has done several jobs for me and all turned out well. They tiled a bathroom, installed wood flooring and replaced a carpeted staircase with a wooden one to match the old floors. They built a walk-in closet, re-routed my air-conditioning ducts., and upgraded my deck. They are quick, reliable and polite. They offer creative solutions to difficult problems , communicate in a timely manner, and are a pleasure to work with. I recommend them for all home renovation and repair projects , large and small. read more

scope of work: Construct and paint 56 feet of new wood deck fencing to existing deck Replace about 40 feet of deck fascia Repair existing deck floor where necessary Clean up and Haul away debris Purchase and deliver all materials Quote included options for redwood or douglass fir, and to match deck, I chose douglass fir Commnents: Very good experience. Work was done per scope and very quickly. They were responsive to my ideas and saved me from some dumb ones. I got four quotes, including 2 from Angie's List. Excellent price from CMRS. Received an Angie's List Discount. Liza/Gretchen did excellent work on contract and documenting scope changes I requested. Daryl was on site for most of the work with a carpenter, who sometimes worked alone. Very pleasant attitudes, working hard and enjoying their craft. They saved me money by saving existing joists and fascia where possible, the condition of which could not be determined till existing fascia and railing was removed. I could have done the job less expensively using unlicensed contractors, but the job involved going up and down steps (my home is on a hillside) and the deck was almost 20' off the ground. I preferred the peace of mind of a properly insured co. I wanted to catch a low refi rate but the bank balked at the condition of the railing. CMRS started on the date promised and got done early on the estimated ending date. Due to their promptness I was able to make the bank happy and get the good rate. Their approach to getting the contract signed and the work started was professional and courteous. No high pressure antics. They sent the draft contract via e-mail, which I could review without a "closer" applying pressure. CMRS did considerable prep work prior to getting on site, including purchasing materials and painting railings read more

I want to warn anyone thinking of doing a patio with System Pavers NOT TO USE THEM... when I contracted with them I specifically stated that we wanted to be able to sit at the side of the pool and walk on the patio during the summer....they sold us a color that RETAINS ALL THE HEAT and has actually burned a friend of mine sitting at the side of the pool. Their prices are also waaay above anyone else! we keep contacting them to get some sort of help for the burining aspect and have heard nothing. THEY WERE SPECIFICALLY TOLD THAT WE WANTED THE COOLEST COLOR STONE and were given dark grey and dark grey pavers.... it was truly disgusting..., someone should do something about them... after they finish they are done,, you cant speak to anyone. read more

I had the unfortunate experience of working with the Live Handyman on my floors. I have hardwood floors and my painter recommended them as he works for them. Daryl told me that he would refinish my floors or buff them. He redid them and it loooked as if nothing much had been done. I still had some planks that had nicks and water damage and Daryl said he could replace them and change them for planks that were in my closet. He looked at them and then realized he couldn't do that. He said he could order the same wood from Home Depot and then stain it. It was ordered and then Eddie, the flooring specialist who works for Daryl, took up 6 planks and used my closet as a garbage can and then stained the floor without first sanding it and then said the job was finished. I didn't respond to them for 2 weeks as I was so angry and then Daryl came out and told Eddie that he needed to sand the wood first. They tried to sand and stain it and the wood still didn't match, so Daryl said they would order more wood from Home Depot which took 2 months. Daryl said his cabinet man could refinish it to make it look somewhat like my original floor. Daryl said he was going to New York for 2 weeks to do a job and when he came back he would finish the job. It was over 3 weeks before I heard from them, and Liza, Daryl's wife, said that the cabinet man wanted to charge $750.00 to stain the wood, so she said Daryl would do it. A few more weeks went by and I hadn't heard anything, so I emailed Liza and she said that the wood had gone to their cabinet man and they were waiting to get a finished date. I thad been over 6 months since I first hired them to do my floors. I had enough and emailed Liza that I was finished with them after not hearing anything from them. I now had to pay someone to install new flooring for my place as I was told that the staining and wood would never match and a reputable flooring company would never do this. I received quotes and this advice from at least 5 contractors who all told me the same thing. read more
