What a great day! Absolutely adore the folks who own and run this place. Everyone is so nice! I didn't have to lift a finger getting the kayak in or out. (Which was super helpful at the end, our arms were tired haha!) Beautifully scenic trip. We personally recommend packing a cooler with lunch and stopping halfway down the river for a break. GPS coordinates are accurate and you can totally rely on your favorite maps app. It is located in Northern Vermont, which is very scenic. - huge parking lot - credit cards are accepted - excellent customer service. You and all the equipment, which is of great quality, will be taken up stream to the starting point. Fast and easy unload, and off you go! - kayaks have convenient built-in storages to keep your belongings dry while you enjoy scenic ride - great for all skill levels Tips: Give them a call ahead of time and your kayaks along with shuttle bus will be waiting for you. I rented a kayak from Clyde River Recreation for a swim on Lake Willoughby with my husband supporting me. The owner was incredibly helpful and friendly on the phone. He met us with the kayak at the south end of the lake and was there to pick it up a few hours later on the north end. Terrific guy, totally reliable, and a great selection of kayaks. I contacted the owner, using the email address supplied on his webpage. He replied, but then said I needed to call for further contact. A follow-up email was ignored. My hearing is quite poor and I don't like the phone, so much prefer email. I don't know why he would provide an email address and then not be willing to respond to messages. read more

What more could one ask for than a beautiful stretch of river to paddle on a sunny day? The location and amenities are very nice, clean and well organized. The owner, Chris, is clearly an outdoors enthusiast! Instead of renting a canoe or kayak, you may opt to take your own vehicle and canoe/kayak to the put-in spot, along with their shuttle driver. He will drive your vehicle back to Clyde River Recreation where your trip will end and you will pick up your vehicle. Before handing over your vehicle keys, be very sure NOT to leave any money or valuables behind. (Under the driver's seat is not a secure place.) read more

The owner, Chris, was instrumental in the success of my bachelor party weekend paddling the Connecticut River on the VT border. I'm normally not a big phone guy but he was really easy to talk to and very helpful. He probably spent over an hour giving me tips on the area and recommendations in terms of daily mileage and river sections to check out. He's very knowledgeable and willing to help out He was really flexible with the shuttle times and was able to accommodate some last minute changes on our end without a fuss. I would absolutely recommend renting canoes with him again! read more

Clyde River is a lazy, winding, peaceful and very scenic route; it is perfect for a family or group of friends looking for a more or less relaxing day out. The river is great for beginners, and is only as tiring as you want it to be. At a reasonable pace, the trail lasts roughly 2.5 hours and ends in the lovely Pensioner's Pond. Bring a snack and pull up on a small bank for a lunch break. The staff (who are good-natured and hilarious) will provide a shuttle to the starting point. This really is a great resource. Renting paddleboards from Clyde River was one of the highlights of our recent vacation at Island Pond. We found the owner to be very helpful and someone that we could've taken out for a beer -- a very nice, easy to talk with person loaded with helpful local information. I emailed before heading to vacation to ask about reserving in advance and received a same day reply. We drove over upon our arrival and discussed what we were looking for and completed our rental. The owner drove the boards over and hand carried them to the dock. He returned at the exact time he said he would three days later. The paddleboards themselves were of excellent quality and were an absolute blast. Three of six in our party channeled our inner surfers and completely loved them. We were given a thorough explanation of how to use them, safety equipment and local regulations. Our experience with CRR was completely perfect from start to finish. PS: We discussed fishing licenses and enforcement, and two days later, we were approached by F&G and asked to provide licenses. At CRR's advice, we had gotten licenses, phew!
