Came here while enjoying a night out in Buffalo, I haven't been here since years before the remodel & it's definitely grown a lot! It's such a spacious venue and they padded everyone down and had metal detectors with security everywhere! It definitely felt safer then probably every other club I've ever been too! The vibe was so alive we decided to get a section and we were quickly taken to our spacious corner with couches and a table, the bottle service/servers need some work but it wasn't too bad! It was a great time and we had our own security guard also! I brought my sister here after her wedding (in her dress) and they brought her on stage, gave her a special shout-out & made it such a special time for her to enjoy. read more

This is very difficult for me ... I've been coming here since the mid 90's and actually worked here for a spell During college at Canisius in the late 90's. I adore Joe Marcella, and despite(me) being almost 50 now, he remembered me, and made me feel like a VIP, and put me at the front of the line. I love the youth and diversity, and had a wonderful night, felt totally my at home, but then felt sudden and bewildering betrayal. I'm just going to say I got taken advantage of by some of the unofficial staff. Please take into account I went without my partner, but came ready to dance and bleed $$$. I tipped minimum $11.00 per $9.00 drink, tried to give the bouncer an Extra $20, but I think he was legit police and denied taking it out of duty. I tipped the girl who charges the cover, double the cover, and was quick to buy random people drinks with no motive aside from friendliness. ANYHOW, I will not elaborate deeply in a public forum, but I was essentially robbed, went to staff for help, and the help sided with the perpetrators, and I was told to exit the premise immediately. It was beyond comprehension how the nefarious group actually seemed to believe their own lies. Albeit it comes with practice, they really "ACTED," as though they believed what they were telling Me. As I was essentially sober, I was meek and compliant, with the exception of spouting to one of the doorman, "Someone is going to regret this. Prior to getting into the medical profession I was in hospitality for over Two decades, and am very sensitive to a clients needs or mood, as well as the stress the staff feels. However, perhaps due to my professional capacity, I felt like I was trying harder to be polite and engage the staff, than they cared to try with me(granted they are sooo darn young). Perhaps, going from being a somewhat attractive dancer, to a barely noticed old man of 49, I might just not be worth chatting up anymore, or perhaps, the younger generation is more socially aloof in general. Anyhow, For many straight or Gay patrons Marcella always symbolized inclusive, unconditional acceptance and safety. Partly, it's difficult to go from being especially adored in my youth, to something of a non entity(at least in my mind) due to being older. My sensitivities aside, what had been yet another Magical Marcella evening, became an almost insurmountable emotional nightmare...... A bizarre almost twilight zone scenario.....that at the very least appeared to illuminate a cohesive union between the official security staff and a select group of hustlers angling their nefarious ends. Long story short, I got fleeced for almost $80.00, and was then told to leave, by the "Official," staff. So robbed, ignored cries for help from staff,and the guilty parties really seemed to revel in successfully conning me, and to add insult To injury, the perpetrators got To enjoy me being kicked out of the bar....while they enjoyed my property. More than anything I felt hurt....the irony is the thieves screwed themselves? I can be a fearsome enemy, but an even more intense friend.... For mere scraps they lost a potential ally/friend.... ironically, what they took was only about a tenth of what they could have yielded as my friend... It's so appallingly the apparent pleasure people get from a well executed con.....even if it's a fraction of what they could have received honestly My take away is that forgiveness, after the anger, if it can't be stopped, is crucial toward healing. It is a nice building pretty big and open. security was great and very thorough with inspections. the music was great and the drag show was awesome. it was very loud we ended up texting to talk while we were there. the bar was big but was hard to order with how loud is was and not having a set list of drinks they offer. read more

It's still a great place to dance, but call me old fashion for liking Club Marcella before their remodel. I came here on May 20th; only a few days into their reopening and this place is definitely fancier. What used to be a $3 cover charge was now $10 (maybe it was just for opening weekend and to be fair, that did include a ticket for a free shot) and there were two DJs in adjacent areas. The outside was polished up and turned into a pretty nice loung-y area to chat on a nice day. The dance floor now had booths. Gone were the dingy couches that people would do unspeakable acts on in the dark corners. Couldn't see the cages anywhere (don't ask). It's a fancier place and for me, it's a little less fun this way. I definitely preferred the grunginess of Club Marcella and liked that it didn't try to be a more upscale night club. It was a fun place to come, dance and let loose with friends. Either way, I'll be back sometime and maybe it was just the few days after opening weekend when it was a little more chaotic. read more

I would give this place absolutely no stars, ever since they've changed locations me and my friends had issues. We went to Marcella's twice for Halloween, last year and this year, and have yet been able to get in. We've waited over 2 damn hours to get in the club, and the security was bullshitting around not letting anyone in. This is absolutely ridiculous. I have yet seen the inside of the building, and was never able to get in because security wasn't letting anybody in. Plus security watched people skip other customers as we were waiting to enter. One of the best dance clubs in the buffalo area because its the only dance club in buffalo. I practically grew up going to this bar all the time with friends when Canada got boring. We always had a good time and never had any issues. The bartenders were always amazing (Steve was the best!) and the drag queens were always nice and willing to talk to you for the most part if they were out and about. It does suck that they don't do all the drag shows anymore and the drag queens have definitely changed drastically over the years. I would like to see them do more on the weekends to get more people to come back. Also if you are over the age of 30 and a reasonably sensible person you would avoid going there as it is for more of a younger crowd. The are other gay bars to go to for adults. read more

They don't have enough violins, violas, or cellos in the music they play here. They need More Cello! Hence the name, Club More-Cello. I love coming to Club Marcella! If I want to date girls, I go on Yelp (obviously). But if I want to date boys (and I use the word "date" very liberally) I come to Club Marcella. My (straight) friend won the "Halloween Fancy Dress" contest here and I've probably been here a dozen times over the years and loved every single visit. Yes it's a gay club, but all kinds of people come here, from hot straight girls, to cute straight foreign long-haired guys that like to flirt with other guys just for fun (ahem), and also older rich people (if you're looking for a Sugar Daddy and such). Most importantly the music is amazing, and often European. I don't drink so I can't say much about that, but most of my friends do, and they've never complained about the drinks here. read more

Finally somewhere I can get my nail polish to glow on the dance floor! Saw a drag show, it was okay. The drag queens were very nice to chit chat with afterwards. It wasn't very long. Maybe buffalo doesn't have enough people to go drag for a show. My drink was made with dragonberry vodka. It was good, but way too sweet. Very small. I asked another bartender if they could water it down to lessen the sweetness which greatly improved the taste. I thought the electronic music was good the whole time. It kept me pumped. The bathrooms were big and clean, so what more could a person ask for. read more

RuPaul once said, "you are born naked. The rest is drag." I think that kind of sums up Marcella's. There's not a lot of places where you can get shitfaced and watch a drag show, but Marcella's is one of them. This weekend, I finally popped my Marcella's cherry. We arrived at 11:55, so most of the people in our party entered for $5, which isn't horrible. I came for the atmosphere, and boy, did I get it. If you're gay, you'll have a great time. If you're straight, you'll have a great time. Everyone there is very accepting and it was very fun to set up my bicurious friends with other girls. It was also nice to be able to kiss my girlfriend in public, which I am sometimes self-conscious about. The place is pretty big, especially when the weather is nice. They had a DJ outside as well as a bunch of tables for people to sit at, as well as two rooms inside with DJs. We went back and forth between the 3 rooms to see different people and hear different music. The bathrooms were clean and it wasn't too upscale nor too divey. The drinks were average priced-- my gin and tonics were each $4.75. Just eh on the price. However, I cannot wait to come back for drag shows or their free burlesque show on Thursday nights. This club is not worth a visit. Why? Parking isn't safe. You get a ticket fine for parking in their lot. Drinks are watered down. Bartenders have an unfriendly snobby attitude toward paying patrons. Including the owner. The night I went the ugly drag queen host mentioned it was the owner's birthday. So after the show I wished the owner a happy birthday. His reply.."It's not my birthday and walked away with a look of disgust on his face. The drag shows lack talent. The majority of the patrons that I saw spent more time on the outdoor patio smoking cigarettes. Who wants to be around people that smell like a dirty cigarette ash tray? Rude bartender. Overlly aggressive bouncer. Guy threw a a fit when my girlfriend and her sister went out side and briefly placed her purse on what happened to be his car when she was fixing her shoe. Then refused to allow her back in to close her tab. I guess he wanted so excitement so he decided to take it out on a 90lb young woman. Other than that great place. read more

I had an ok time. I am used to getting stronger drinks at gay bars, a gay bar drink should basically have double the booze and tends to be around $6. At Marchella's the drink was $6 and was not double strength, to add insult to injury the wait staff measured the shot using not a jigger but a plastic thimble. The Drag show was pretty good but seeing adults dance around to Miley Cyrus was kinda off putting. Anyway after learning that the booze was not worth the money the club was fun the music was good until about 2:30am when the DJ kept repeating songs and saying rude things. read more

Marcella's has never been as good of a time to me as a lot of the other gay bars/clubs in Buffalo. The scene tends to be much younger, more meat-markety, catty and hipsterish. Drinks are also weaker and more expensive than other places, served by less friendly bartenders. The current incarnation is definitely very swank - a big change over back in the day when this was known as a scummy, bring a friend with you to the bathroom kind of place. It is still a great place to catch events, like the Black Party and the occasional drag show. Beware for large events - the club is VERY small in its current space. We were in line for 1.5 hours to get in for the Black Party and the dance floor was so crowded there was literally a point where I thougt the surging crowd would crush me - I've never ever had that fear in ten years of partying, even at raves. Sadly, whilst improving their appearance they have lost their musical edge. They used to be a big name in electronic music but now they mostly play pop and diva remixes and their former black light parties (hardcore rave style music with only black lights lighting the floor - super awesome time) have been watered down to "glow" parties with different lighting and the same music they play most nights of the week. *sigh* read more

Club Marcella was the rudest and most unprofessional club I have ever been to in Buffalo. The blonde bartender who happened to be the "owners" daughter called me racial slurs and proceeded to kick me out of the club for an incident that didn't not happen. This was super unfortunate, especially because that was my first time there. I would never recommend this bar to any of my friends and will be seeking legal precautions after this. read more

I love the large dance floor. I love the stage and the two stripper poles. I love that its free cover on Fridays and Saturdays before Midnight. The music is okay sometimes, terrible occasionally, and usually dancable. I do not like that the drag show mic is so loud it hurts the ears immediately. I do not like that sometimes it smells like cigarette smoke inside. I do not like that the dance floor is often 95% unhealthy-looking people who clearly don't have much energy to dance. But this may be a common problem in general these days with more and more people suffering from chronic health problems. read more

The club does not even deserve a single star. I will admit the music was good. However, a club security threw four drinks down my back. Then, proceeded by saying that it wasn't his fault. Yes, it was his fault and it was on purpose. I was not even on his way. After this, he went into the back room or whatever it was without even apologizing for spilling drinks down my back. He comes back after through that same door and asks if we slammed the door. I said we did not. He still did not apologize for spilling four drinks on me and continued to get even more irritated for absolutely no reason because he was the one causing this entire issue. So, he leaves and warns us to not do that again, although we said we did not do anything. We just stand there and he comes back through the stage to attempt to remove us from the club and brings another security guy because he clearly cannot do things on his own. At this point, I start to ask where the exit was because we did not want to have any issues. He just kept screaming at us, then pointed where the exit was. Those two security officers deserve to be fired for treating people, who have spent money to provide for the business they get paid from, with disrespect. read more

What's not to like about Club Marcella? For starters, Marcella's is 18 and up, which allows for a fun night out on the town even if you're underage. Not only that, but every Friday night there is a fantastic drag show featuring some of Buffalo's foxiest stars. I thought she was making it up until I asked and they said "three dollars" which, frankly, is irresponsible even if it's not illegal and I understand why she is upset because it discourages people to sober up. Had a great time here on Christmas vacation. The drag shows were fun, as was watching people on the pole. The drinks were good, and the staff was awesome & friendly. This is a place I used to visit in my early twenties-I had so much fun here that I can barely remember my early twenties. The drag performers are funny, talented, and liberating; in fact, the entire experience is liberating, which is just perfect for people who want to break free of being quantified-not just as a gay or straight person...but to any label. My last trip to this club was about 5 yrs ago; I visited the new location in the theater district; i think the business aim for moving was for expansion, as the other place was smaller. Well, I spent about 15 minutes in here before I left. What I saw was nothing fun. I have no idea if this is my mature thought process and sober mind speaking, but many of the club goers were in their underwear, grinding eachother. I was pretty sure it was a result of being on E. The place resembled a haven for prostitution for kids that were no more than 23. When I was 23, nobody was in their underwear grinding away at anyone-the underwear (on Wednesdays?) event is new-and may have been the precipitating attitude for some time. To compliment my findings Marcella's old website had photos, and videos of these kids stripping down to their underwear. Currently, the website is post renovation thanks to Nathan Strang, its develpor; it is much more professional! On the whole, drag shows are a lot of fun! It was $20 to get in, and the bartender wouldn't serve me because I didn't have my id, gave me lots of attitude ("Um how did you even get in here without an id??") and then TOOK MY MONEY AND DIDN'T GIVE ME MY DRINK. What a waste. Do not recommend. read more

my girlfriends and one gay guy friend went here for a fun night and we were happy that it turned out to just that. good music, atmosphere and people. my only issue was getting hit on gradually pulled to the bathroom by a strange man...moral of the story NEVER GO ALONE! thank god my girls were there and I realized what he was doing before it was too late. we bounced pretty fast after that. but the club was great and my guy friend had a fun time too! read more
