The meat was super tender and tasty. The best part was the sauce they bring out to the table in little squirt bottles. The red sauce was a chipotle flavored salsa and the green was just as amazing, maybe even more so. Prices were really reasonable, $1.75 per taco and other menu items were under $10. The only downside was that it took a little while (about 20 minutes) for it to be made. Of course, that means it was cooked fresh! I can't wait to come back!

The menu is not extensive, tacos, burritos, soup (posole on the weekends) sandwiches, and quesadillas but who needs an extensive menu? We are really here for the tacos, right? So, let's talk about the tacos. I'm a huge fan of tripas (tripe) tacos. Growing up in East Tennessee I would never have imagined myself willingly eating the intestines of any animal but here I am, longing for those delectable morsels of deliciousness on a good tortilla with lime and a fiery green salsa. Taqueria Hidalgo delivers. The tripe tacos (order it cooked crispy) are delicious. The owner tells me they sell a huge amount of the tripe tacos and I see why - each crispy little piece of tripe is an earthy, porky, bite of heaven. Add the standard onions, cilantro, and lime along with some of the homemade green salsa and it's an explosion of flavor in your mouth. For the less advanced taco connoisseurs, they also have chicken, steak, marinated pork, etc. but be aware these are Mexican style street tacos - no cheese and served on soft corn tortillas. I'm so happy we have this family run business in Richmond. It is an asset to the community. Check it out!

I'm giving this location 3 stars because while I can generally always find what I'm looking for or needing, this store isn't always the cleanest and their zoning is always as though a tornado blew through the store. So for someone who isn't a regular shopper or who doesn't know the store layout/where things are they will have a difficult time finding what they need. Also, some of the workers are the RUDEST people I have ever come across in my life! Not all, but.. there's one in particular that works at the customer service desk - older lady, short black hair, wears glasses, her name is Betty. I'm sorry but, this woman needs to be fired. After 30 minutes on the phone with a customer service agent, I was told I didn't have to return the item that the order was cancelled and I would not be charged for it. On 12/22/25 Walmart charged my card my card for the item. I called and explained I was told not to return the item. After an hour on the phone and talking to a supervisor I was told that I would have to return the item since it was delivered. I explained that I had given the item to my granddaughter since I didn't need the item and that 11 days ago Walmart had told me to keep it at no charge. Walmart supervisor said that the previous customer service rep didn't have the right (per policy) to say not to return the item. Now I have to return the item or pay for it when I had offered to return it previously and was told not to. If this is the way Walmart operates then they can do without my and my families business. I have been going here for several years now. I have watched the prices go up to double and triple…read morethe price before covid.. I just bought a watermelon 2 days ago, for 6.99 ! It was very small as were all of the ones they had. Half the size of a basketball, literally no exaggerating. And Kroger has them for 5.99 much bigger and better. I just grabbed one on a quick stop at sav a lot to save some time. I have asked several times to talk to the owner, and he has never been there. The last time I asked just a week ago, the cashier said she has never seen him there. I want to confront him on his pricing ? He is a greedy man, ripping off the people because they think they are saving when actually Kroger is cheaper on most items. This owner corners his customers by not having choices on the vast majority of items. Let's take a stroll for a minute ? Walk-in I go left to produce ! No choice in apples, and what he has are higher than Kroger and dry no juice in any of his 3 choices. Move on to grapes, expensive but decent. I did get some extremely sour grapes 4 weeks ago. I should have returned them along with several other crappy items he has sold. Either spoiled sour, dry, nasty whatever ! He will sell instead of throwing bad items away. He is definitely not going to lose any money . He would obviously rather rip you off. Now to tomatoes ,! 2 choices both a joke and outrageous. But the same can be said for Kroger and Walmart in Richmond. He has a limited selection of produce and it's all bottom of the barrel at very high prices. I hope the good people who come here on the first of the month to get savings to feed their families see this. And take my honest advice and just go to Kroger. You will save money and get more choices and better quality for less money on probably 90% of the items sav a lot has. Do your own homework and you will see this sav a lot owner is betting on you just assuming he is cheaper. Fact is, he is not ! He is greedy and getting filthy rich on the backs of good people who are loyal to this store. I was until about 2 years ago, when I noticed just how high the prices are. Let's move to canned vegetables ! His prices are just a touch higher than Kroger with a limited choice on brands. And for some reason he stopped selling seasoned butter beans 2 years ago ???? Have no idea what that is about, I am sure it's about money. Let's move to meat ! Mexico Mexico Mexico !!! How do you bring steak and pork chops from Mexico and sell them here for the same Kroger can ? Good steak but the money goes to Mexico ? He obviously is no patriot ! Again he is greedy ! Moving on to the far side of the store to milk eggs biscuits cheese etc ! I remember 2 years ago maybe 4 now. A gallon of milk was maybe 1.26 ? Eggs were 1.00 a dozen, sav a lot big biscuits were 1.50 give it take ? Now ? Milk almost 4.00 Eggs almost 4.00 Sav a lot big biscuits ? They no longer carry them ! You have to buy Pillsbury grands at shy of 4.00 per can ! All of the frozen food is much higher and believe it or not ? There are no supply chain issues. And very little food comes from overseas ! Very little, so supply chain has nothing to do with your food or pricing. I have said plenty to get your attention I hope. Just check his prices on a few items, then compare with Kroger ? And you will see the better deal is at Kroger. I know Kroger is always busy and very little parking. But this is why, people are catching on to sav a lot. Plenty of parking there now, because nobody well very few are going there anymore. If we all stuck together and stop doing business at sav a lot, he will lower his prices. And show us some respect and not treat us like idiots. While he buys another boat or plane or property ? He is getting filthy rich, because we were not doing our homework. If you still go ? Listen to the people talking about how high things are !!! They just know things are high, and think it's because of the fact economy. If you don't hear anyone talking ? Talk to them, bring up the subject and you will see people are tired of the fleecing. And people are having a hard time getting by ! Please look at the price difference ! Another quick example A bottle of Gatorade Was always around 1 dollar At sav a lot and Kroger Now at sav a lot That same bottle is 2.50 or 3.00 depending on the week. That's double or triple the regular price ! And Gatorade doesn't come from overseas lol ! But he is playing that game on us ! I hope you will take this seriously and help yourself and others by fighting the good fight. I don't have anything to do with Kroger or sav a lot. Just tired of the rip off all the time. I buy pretty much the same thing every 2 weeks. I used to spend around 130 to 150.00 each trip at sav a lot ! Now I spend 300.00 to 370.00 for the same items !! That is pure greed ! Shame on this man who is never there to be seen or confronted ! He is a sneaky greedy coward of a man ! And I hope he and his diamond encrusted wife sees this !
