There are 2 different eating styles, either bar food in the Courtyard Bar, or a la carte in the restaurant. Usual bar meals - fish and chips, steak pie, roast dinners, salmon etc, all freshly cooked and served by friendly and helpful bar staff. They have a good selection of malts.

John Campbell is a total sweetheart. When we could not find a laundry, he volunteered his hotel services for us! The room was excellent, with a fake fireplace that just warmed the room with its appearance, two end tables (a major plus for us) an iron bed and two chairs next to a bar table. The bathroom was superb with radiant heating in the floor. Dinner was downstairs in the hotel, a quiet dining room for clients only, a tad uncomfy in that there was only two couples and we could hear each other's conversations, opposed to a bustling, noisy restaurant, but the food was excellent and service was impeccable.

I stayed in a family room which we got at a reduced price because the room was quite outdated and due to be refurbished. The room was large and had a very comfy bed. The room had a great layout; the two single beds were further down the room and were separated by a curtain giving more privacy. Our deal included breakfast and I enjoyed the choice; fry-ups, toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and pastries. Unfortunately the croissants I had were warm on the outside and a tad soggy in the middle. Breakfast was good but the quality wasn't amazing. At night, you could buy a drink at the bar and sit beside the cosy fire on comfy sofas and chairs which made the hotel a winner in my eyes as I hate being stuck in a hotel room all night. Gin lovers will be happy to know that they have a huge list of gins - there's a little greenhouse in the bar area where they show all the gins they have on offer. Outside the hotel, they had chickens and a bee hive as well as an outdoor giant chess board and small golf area. In the hotel, they have a kids play group and you can hire bikes. If the quality of breakfast had been better, I would've given it 5 stars.

Our room had a huge bathroom with free standing roll top bath and a walk in shower with dinner plate sized shower head. Anyway - the meal, was just amazing. The chef specialises in freshly cooked local produce. I had smoked salmon for starter - very simply presented and tasted just great. My main was chicken breast with wild muchrooms and dessert was a pineapple carpaccio with home made vanilla icecream. Was all wonderful. Best thing though was the steak that my husband ordered - has to have been the best steak I have ever tasted. Restaurant is small and cosy and you move through into the lounge for coffee and petit four. The lodge is set on the edge of Walkerburn, near Peebles - wonderful views out across the tweed valley. I would recommend this place to anyone. Dinner, B+B starts at £210 for 2 people - I think it is well worth it.

The hotel is hidden away in the hills of the Scottish Lowlands. It is amazingly quiet there. You will see cows, dogs and rabbits and much more. It was the perfect summers day afternoon strolling around the grassland and woodland area until we finally were ready for our afternoon tea in the backyard whilst sunbathing. About the afternoon tea...... It was ok. Not much on the trier plates but plenty to leave with a happy face and full belly. Or was it the bubblies that came along with the cakes and egg/tuna sandwiches? The scones were excellent. They did not fall apart. I found them soft and juicy. They offered tea or coffee with the afternoon tea and on this occasion we got clotted cream, strawberry and raspberry jam. The service was slow on the off take. Tea came fast, but the sandwiches took half an hour. Still, it was worth the wait. The weather was so nice that we missed out on the spa facilities. Why would you want to ensure inside on a sunny day like this? Anyway, next time...... The hotel seems quite popular. Lots of guests arriving. No wonder, as the location and the hotel surroundings are perfect, if you plan to hide away from the world.......

Well what can I say just awful the manager landlady in that pub was awful to me obnoxious rude…read moreinsulting she swore at me verbally abused me on regular bases. I wasn't allowed to use the kitchen cook food and the room I rented upstairs was cold damp mouldy and had a massive hole in the ceiling and roof. She was charging me a fortune to live there. I left after two months moved out and lived else where. I had no hot water wasn't allowed to use the kettle in the pub for a drink. I was screamed at on diary bases because pots was left inside the sink they wasn't mine pots someone else lived there to and had a room. The attitude from her was terrible very very bullyish behaviour. I'm glad I left I ended up having to seek professional help because of the abuse I received by her I hope I never see her again and go into that pub it was like faulty towers times that by 1000,000, it should have been torn down years ago flithy dirty dangerous damp and mould holes in ceilings no hot water I felt awful for the staff they suffered abuse to awful bully manager and landlady

I was not able to book last minute for dinner as they are popular so be sure to call ahead. I was welcomed for drinks and spent a nice section of my evening there in the dining area and bar.
