There are 2 different eating styles, either bar food in the Courtyard Bar, or a la carte in the restaurant. The bar food is good, although the setting is a bit 'ordinary' compared to the rest of the hotel. Usual bar meals - fish and chips, steak pie, roast dinners, salmon etc, all freshly cooked and served by friendly and helpful bar staff. They have a good selection of malts.

I stayed in a family room which we got at a reduced price because the room was quite outdated and due to be refurbished. The room was large and had a very comfy bed. The room had a great layout; the two single beds were further down the room and were separated by a curtain giving more privacy. Our deal included breakfast and I enjoyed the choice; fry-ups, toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and pastries. Unfortunately the croissants I had were warm on the outside and a tad soggy in the middle. Breakfast was good but the quality wasn't amazing. At night, you could buy a drink at the bar and sit beside the cosy fire on comfy sofas and chairs which made the hotel a winner in my eyes as I hate being stuck in a hotel room all night. Gin lovers will be happy to know that they have a huge list of gins - there's a little greenhouse in the bar area where they show all the gins they have on offer. Outside the hotel, they had chickens and a bee hive as well as an outdoor giant chess board and small golf area. In the hotel, they have a kids play group and you can hire bikes. If the quality of breakfast had been better, I would've given it 5 stars.

The restaurant space is fantastic, it's like a grand ballroom and is just a lovely place to sit and have a meal. With social distancing measures in place, there are fewer tables than they probably would have, so you are practically guaranteed a peaceful evening. We found the menu, although not extensive, had enough variety to cope with most diets, and they are always willing to adapt to your particular needs. They offered tea or coffee with the afternoon tea and on this occasion we got clotted cream, strawberry and raspberry jam. The service was slow on the off take. Tea came fast, but the sandwiches took half an hour. Still, it was worth the wait. The weather was so nice that we missed out on the spa facilities. Why would you want to ensure inside on a sunny day like this? Anyway, next time...... The hotel seems quite popular. Lots of guests arriving. It looks like a small castle when you are approaching it as it has a turret of the front of it and has extensive gardens to walk in if you are staying. The staff are helpful and friendly and the hotel itself is spotlessly clean. It has a traditional but welcoming atmoshphere. There is ample parking available and can be easily accessed by diabled patrons.

The bathroom was superb with radiant heating in the floor. Dinner was downstairs in the hotel, a quiet dining room for clients only, a tad uncomfy in that there was only two couples and we could hear each other's conversations, opposed to a bustling, noisy restaurant, but the food was excellent and service was impeccable.
