Extremely poor customer service -- local customers deserve better…read more I reached out to Direct Flooring Outlet after seeing the reviews and wanted to get a local quote after finding the flooring I was looking for online. I used their website to request a free quote and was contacted by Dan Versman, the owner's son. Dan initially told me they would likely be able to match the price I had found and that he would put together a quote. What followed was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've had in a very long time. I received several one-sentence emails from Dan asking questions that I had already answered in my original email. Rather than continuing this back-and-forth, I simply asked if we could have a quick phone call to discuss it. No response. I then called the main office. The woman who answered gave me Dan's phone number and specifically told me to text him and that he would get right back to me. He never did. Not once. I waited until the following week, giving them plenty of time and being more than patient. Later that afternoon, I sent another email and called again. Eventually, at the end of the day, I received a response saying: "This isn't worth it for us, we're going to pass." That's it. I have worked in customer service for over 25 years, and this was honestly one of the worst experiences I've had dealing with a company. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I was a local customer trying to purchase a substantial amount of flooring and simply wanted a quote and a conversation about pricing. What makes it worse is that I called the main office afterward specifically to explain my experience. I was told that Lou Versman would be informed and would call me back. He never called. At some point, businesses need to be accountable for the level of service they provide. If you say you're going to call someone back, call them back. If you say you're going to provide a quote, follow through. If you don't want the business, that's fine -- just communicate that professionally and promptly. Your website has a commercial talking about the level of service you provide to local customers. Based on my experience, that message does not match the reality of dealing with your company. I ended up having to order the flooring from over the hill, which was a major inconvenience, simply because a local company couldn't be bothered to follow through with a basic customer inquiry. And Dan Versman's lack of communication, respect, and professionalism was obvious throughout this entire experience. The lack of care and respect shown toward a potential customer speaks volumes about how seriously he takes the people who are trying to give his business their money. And Dan -- giving your own company a 5-star review and then the company responding to that review looks pretty crooked from a customer's perspective. At the very least, it raises some serious questions about the credibility of the reviews on this business. SMH. If you're looking for flooring, go somewhere else. There are companies that will actually communicate with you, follow through, and treat you with basic respect.

I hired this company to install a product they offered called Revotile, a click-lock floating…read moreporcelain tile. In less than a year, the grout was cracking and the tiles were shifting in one end of the bathroom. When I brought this to their attention, they said in their opinion the structural failure was caused by a shaky washing machine and possibly also affected my subfloor. They even came out to evaluate the possibility of a paid repair at my request, *but sent someone out who did not work with tile.* When he informed them that he did not work with this type of flooring, they told me they would have to send out a tile installer. (They *installed* the floor and had come out once or twice to look at it...and they didn't know it was tile?) The second installer they sent said a repair was not possible, so I decided to have the tile removed, the subfloor repaired if necessary, and vinyl sheet flooring installed. I used a different flooring contractor for the removal and replacement. Upon demolition, it was discovered that Bay Area Floors had actually used a blue Microban underlayment (designed for floating laminate or wood) directly under rigid porcelain tile. Tile requires a rigid substrate - putting it over foam causes the floor to flex, which is the real reason the tiles were shifting and the grout was cracking. (Further, there was nothing wrong with the subfloor.) I tried to contact Bay Area Floors directly regarding this, but they stopped responding to me. Because they stopped responding to me entirely, I have filed an official complaint with the California Contractors State Licensing Board (CSLB). The CSLB has opened a case and issued a formal notice to the company. So far they have ignored the board's mandatory response timeline, the deadline for which has technically just passed, but I will update this review if necessary. Be incredibly cautious when hiring this company. EDIT: The contractor response below is absolutely false. They have taken no such action or at least have not communicated with me about it. Certainly that have not "attempted to assist me in filing a claim." Furthermore, anyone can research online that Microban underlayment is both an improper underlayment for porcelain tile AND is not the underlayment stipulated by the manufacturer, Daltile, for proper installation and for warranty requirements. Please do so, then compare the photos attached with the contractor's claim that they "follow all manufacturer installation guidelines." This has nothing to do with "the flooring I chose," it has to do with the contractor's blatant disregard for industry installation standards, and both trade and manufacturer guidelines. I will not edit or respond further, this is now in the hands of the CSLB, to whom they can provide the evidence that they responded to me as he claims.

The small stuff? Nah. They just left a bunch of dirt & debris all over my front door, my bushes outside my patio, and worst yet swept a bunch of debris off the upstairs patio directly into my patio. Funny enough, not sweeping the area in front of my door. I emailed the company about this. No answer. So essentially, they came, they did work upstairs, they messed up my condo because who cares, right? They also put some sort of fan or electronic device on upstairs that is slapping against the walls so now, ever since they left, I have this nonstop loud clicking in my bathroom. Besides this annoying me to no end, I'm sure it's running the upstairs condo owner's electric bill up. Since no one is renting it, they'll just have to eat that cost. I plan to notify my HOA about this as well as the debris bring swept into my patio. I'll suggest they be banned from the condo complex. In summary, if you want them to leave small annoying appliances on & illegally throw debris all over your neighbors property, hire these irresponsible people.
