I came into your store this morning with a large tote and small basket FULL of nice clothing, to include a brand new pair, still in the box, of Michael Kors heels. This is the 2nd time I've tried to sell at your store and this will be the last time I ever step foot in it. I was offered a little over $7 for the shoes and in total, walked out with $12 and some change. Meanwhile, you have the same style of clothes hanging in your racks, some worse than what I brought in. There was only one woman in there picking her nose who has her barely clothed daughter come in and work for her in a bra and sweatpants. I gave them 2 bags full of Lululemon, designer brands, and in season items and she yelled at me saying she passed on everything. The items in the store, however, are all pilled and stained... Walmart brand... etc... Unbelievable. Took my business to Plato's, where they accepted both of my bags and gave me cash. Avoid shopping and giving your clothes at this location, unless you want to be chewed out by a very unprofessional staff in a dirty building... read more

They say they only accept name brand items on the store window, but will low ball you when you bring them in. They gave me $14 for 5 name brand items, mostly all of them new with tags. The workers are also rude. read more

first off I want to say I loved the cashier she was wearing a mask so I can't say what she looks like but she was amazing and help fill. BUT to the girl with the star tattoo on your face throwing bags of clothes around and commenting and a tiny little joke I made which the cashier laugh. I'm sorry you hate your job and you have to give someone else an attitude to make yourself feel better. I hope on everything else you're not the manager and if you are I hope they see how you treat people. other then that the clothes were great and the selection was fun. They don't pay out much for clothes sold to them. The selection of clothes seems nice and they have a lot of high end brands. One of the employees was so kind and helpful, have a warm feeling, but took a long time to recognize me standing at the counter. She was sorting clothes on a rack so I understood she was busy. The buyer, assuming this is the owner, was not a warm person. She never smiled. She was abrupt in her speech. Doesn't leave a great impression. I love Clothes Mentor's great prices every day and sales like no one else has! I always find new and gently used items there in designer and very good store brands. Customer service is extremely good which goes far with me. Do you need help matching or pairing outfits? They are happy to help you and then to accessorize at wonderful prices. Poor customer service experience. The team's communication is cryptic and dismissive- My family drove over an hour away to drop off clothes, and asked what they should expect from the process. Clothes Mentor's response to my parents isn't appropriate to repeat/type. I'm highly concerned that my parents who are nearly 70, have to drive back over an hour this place today, and be subjected to their mistreatment they have no idea what to expect. read more

I took 2 baskets of beautiful, clean clothes last week. They were very heavy! I got a text that the clothes had been evaluated and to return to the store. I was shocked when I was told they only wanted to buy 2 pieces for $7.50! What a joke! I was informed that they have too much inventory in the back! Why does Clothes Mentor a advertise that they are buying if they are not? They thought I was just going to leave the clothes there. I took the clothing back and donated to Goodwill. They didn't even offer to help me transport them back to my vehicle. I am 67 years old! I will never agai purchase anything from Clothes Mentor. I am a plus-size woman trying to consign/sell some clothes that I no longer wear, or have never worn. I read reviews on Clothes Mentor in Fredericksburg, which were generally "meh" or worse, but I figured I would still try (science, right?). Yesterday I took my clear plastic bin with an assortment of clothes to the store, and received a generally warm welcome. It was a Tuesday morning, so the store was quiet, and the buyer (Claudia) took the bin, printed receipts, and had me sign something that looked contractual. She didn't explain much, but I don't have many complaints about Claudia's demeanor. She said it would take about 30 to 45 minutes, so I decided I'd browse. I was delighted by how organized the store was - sizes are roughly sorted from XS to XXL, and by color. This made it easy for me to locate the XXL in any category and find that they have a broad range of styles. Their "current styles" limit is a grey area, since I recognized a few of the pieces on the racks from Lane Bryant and others, and I have owned them for over five years. Many items still have tags attached, and overall I found the selection to be average for a thrift/secondhand store. I asked someone else in the store about shoes, and received a friendly explanation: heeled shoes are organized on top of the clothing racks, and flats were in bins on rack end-caps. Clearly, they prefer the more stylish heeled shoes (I love Keen and Merrell flats, and get excited when I find them at thrift shops!). Purses and bags, too - they had a good selection, and a LOT of those quilted bags. I found an Avenue black tank top exactly like one I had at home, tags attached, and grabbed it. I also found a Chaps long-sleeve collared shirt that was very similar to one I also had at home, but decided against it. So I returned to the counter, and my bin had already been processed. My cashier was Goldie, who was very friendly. Four of my items were purchased for $11.00: two pairs of capris, one pair of yoga/workout pants, and one long-sleeved blouse. The rest, according to Claudia, were "too worn," or pants that were not either skinny or straight-leg. Ummmm, there was one pair of pants in the batch, and the rest were capris that were worn twice at most. I think three items in my bin would fit the "too worn" category, but that's subjective, right? So now I'm going to try to find a consignment option near to me (Alexandria) so I can un-stuff my closet... read more

Drop off 3 big bags of cloths . . Tags still on moist of them and others are new hardly use. Had two people drop off in front of me. So I figured it was going to take a while. In car for 15 minutes and they text it was ready . I call and they did not want the cloths. Went back they never even look at my clothes. The stuff was never taken out of the bags. You would have think they would have look at them. look at photos of cloths and I had Capri in the bags and shorts beauty full skirts and dress . out of 150 piece they took 0 . And moist of them had price tags on them. And the people who help me put them in the bag was shock they did not take them. If I had time I would have sold them my self. So sad. Not going there again. I have sold them a couple of times now since having moved to the area and I feel they are a bit more selective than Platos but the store is smaller and they aren't overly saturated with fast fashion brands which is nice. I even brought my one year old to shop and he was reeking a little bit of havoc but they didn't mind and instead at check out were nice and trying to talk to him. read more

Do not bring things to this sell. I brought some bags to sell. Some new with tags. After waiting an hour (they had 1 person ahead of me) they me it would be another hour or so to go through everything. I couldn't wait so I said I would be back. I felt like I could trust them because I had purchased things there many times. I left for 2 hours. Went I got back they still weren't done. They told me they decided they were only taking to bags. I see that majority of the bad reviews are from years ago, so I thought I'd hop on and leave a more relevant review. I love this place. The staff are always cheerful and helpful, they always have great selections, and their end of season clearance sales are great, too. It's well organized and clean. My mom and I like to come in together. We both like their rewards program, and getting their emails, too. I haven't tried bringing anything in, yet, only shopping, but I'm planning to bring in some items soon to see how that side of it goes. Overall, it's one of our local favorites. read more

I went to this location over the weekend and watched the cashier handle an irate customer with grace and dignity. This woman was kind and professional in the face of abuse. This Clothes Mentor is phenomenal and their workers go above and beyond to promote a kind and helpful environment. It disgusts me to see people who are providing services treated like this and I applaud her for remaining kind and in charge of the entire situation. 10/5 stars because she deserved better. read more

I went in today for the very first time. The young Latina lady was not very nice or customer friendly. I was taken aback because I do customer service daily and I never treat people that way. I have very nice clothes and shoes. I take very good care of my things and she just stuck her nose up at me like I was dirt. Very sad. I'll never go there again. I have had the most frustrating retail and customer service experience with the management at this location and will NEVER return as either a customer or a seller. I was offered an amount for some designer watches I was interested in selling but as the offer was less than 10% of the original sale price I declined their offer preferring to keep them rather than sell at such a loss. After leaving the store, I received a call from the staff asking at what price I'd be willing to sell. Surprised, I gave what I thought was a fair offer and they agreed to pay the price suggested if I would return to the store. This is after a 70 minute appraisal despite my items being the only ones under consideration on a rainy Thursday afternoon. Upon returning, in addition to wasting my time over the additional half-hour that followed, the manager on duty proceeded to change the offer with each staff member that she sent out to speak with me when I asked for clarification on the agreed upon terms. After she reduced the price an additional 20-30% from what was agreed upon over the phone between the three associates sent out, I refused the offer on ethical and personal grounds. I have never had such an abhorrent encounter with staff as ineffective and inexperienced as those at this location. Lily, the manager on duty, represented the franchise terribly with poorly disguised bias and racism in her customer service. The behavior displayed was completely unacceptable and a frustrating waste of time. I should note that both items were accompanied by the original packaging and one was new while the other was in good used condition but in need of a replacement battery. read more

Failing business model with no money to pay for the clothes it wants to buy. Have sold very sucessfully to this store in the past and would have done so again except I was offered a mix of cash and store credit for my items. They bought my Coach and Michael Kors handbags of course for cash but then tried to give me store credit for my clothes. Great selection of clothing, very well organized, the pricing is great on the wallet. I'm not sure what sellers are expecting - if you can buy a really nice dress or jacket for $15 in the store, you can't expect them to purchase it from you for $25. This is my go to place. Went here expecting them to take a gently used pair of Cole Haans and a pair of UGG boots. As they declined my shoes they accepted a dirty pair of kohls brand shoes, coved in stains. Not only were those dirty, but so were the clothes on the racks. Hands down this place was kind of gross and not as high class as their website states. read more

I was introduced to Clothes Mentor over the summer when I was in Kansas City, MO. I bought $300 worth of clothing, shoes and accessories on a business trip. I even had to buy a bigger suitcase for my return trip home. You can only imagine my surprise and delight when I discovered the same chain about an hour from my house. I was not at all impressed with this store. I drove from Manassas and was excited until I began looking at the selection. It was horrible! It felt more like a Plato's Closet than what I experienced in MO. I definitely won't go out of my way again to go here nor would I recommend this store to any of my friends. read more

I recently lost 50 pounds and have a lot of business casual clothing in perfect condition - all name brand (and accepted according to their website) to this store. I brought in about 90 pieces of clothing. They rejected everything except a brand new with tags pair of true religion jeans and a Bebe romper. For those two items I was offered $19. I felt like I was slapped in the face. When I asked why I was simply told that the condition of the other 88 items were not acceptable. Everything was in near perfect condition, laundered and ironed so that is simply not true. I took all my clothes back and will never return to this dump. No one should support this place. read more

In the past year and a half I have gone from a 32 to a 22/24 so I had tons of work clothes and casual wear that was too big. A friend recommended this store so I thought I would try. I brought in a basket full of recently purchased (past year or so) in great condition clothes in a 26. I was told they passed on all clothes because it was not the styles they were looking for. While I was waiting I looked through their XXL, XXXL and size 22/24/26. I found most were outdated and NOT current. I was then told to go ahead and bring in my 28 pants and jeans since they were from Avenue and Lane Bryant and would sell even though they only accept up to a 26. This store is not convenient to me and is a little out of my way. When I picked up the second load I was told they passed simply because it was all 28's, which they had told me to bring in. I feel they are not up to date on current trends for plus size women. I will probably not be back to sell or buy at this location again. read more

As with most places that buy back clothes, expect them to be very selective. Don't expect to sell them everything you take them and don't expect to get a whole lot for it. They do have a lot of good choices available even for plus sized and maternity. Prices are pretty reasonable. Customer service is usually pretty good. read more

I like to shop there, but they certainly don't give u very much money on the stuff they buy. New clothes from Macy's with the tags still on and it was "yard sale" money. Today was the third time I've taken clothing in to sell at this store. I had beautiful, like new, in style (purchased this year) clothing and accessories that were in excellent condition. I was offered $12 for 6 tops. When I asked why nothing else was accepted, I was told that there was nothing else that they would be able to sell. I told them that I find it hard to believe my things wouldn't sell, compared to a lot of the crap I've seen hanging on the racks. Throughout the store, you find items that are outdated, dingy and very worn. I told them I'll take my stuff back, and I will never set foot in that store again. What a joke!! read more

I am a regular at a high-end consignment shop in Fredericksburg and decided to try this new competitor. Oddly, I was eating lunch in a restaurant before trying to consign and overheard a woman complaining about Clothes Mentor. She stated she brought twelve bags of clothes and Brighton bags and they only offered her $15. I became apprehensive but still went there with an opened mind. During my attempt to consign, it is a recommendation by my other consignment shop to bring printouts of online prices of the current market selling rate of my bags (especially Coach items). I was really shocked to hear the woman in this shop after returning so they could do their research say that my "purses were unauthenticated" and said it very rudely if I may add. She also said that it was the boss that made the decision. Needless to say, I realized that they are not very professional nor have any knowledge on how to research market price on consignment items and seemed to want to steal from customers. One cashier was outside texting on her cell phone while the other (who didn't know how to do anything) waited of a line of 5+ people. Not a pleasant experience and I will not be going back. I went to try to sell some designer clothes and shoes that are still in great shape, still in style, and shoes slightly warn. They only bought two articles of clothing because either it was too warn or was older than two years. While I waited for them to appraise the clothing I looked around the store. I found clothes that were brands that they specifically say they wont accept and shoes that are in much worse shape and are stained and there are articles of clothing, bags, and accessories that are way past the two year cut off. I do sometimes find great deals and nice clothes in here. However, anytime I've tried to sell to them, its usually tainted by the snobbish snooty staff. They don't accept anything on hangers, or in bags, only in boxes - a mild pain in the rear if you've traveled any distance to visit them and don't happen to have a box in your trunk. They act like you are absolutely interrupting their day by showing up with clothing to sell, or like they can tell just by looking at you that you couldn't possibly have anything good enough for their store. This past go round they passed on Anne Taylor dresses, business slacks and skirts but wanted to buy a short little not-work-friendly black & leopard print number from me for a whole $3.90. read more
