installed Yesterday, the material is iKea level with wood pricetag.

Ikea level of material with wood pricetag. Not good quality, you can do this yourself for cheaper using ikea cabinets

I had my very small laundry room organized by Closets By Design. The designer, Heidi, kept my requests in mind as she planned my space. She told me what to expect on installation day. Today, Dave and Austen arrived on time and changed a room with one wire rack into an organized laundry room. They were polite, efficient and neat. It's a joy to walk into the room and see how organized it is.

I'm overall happy with how it came out. I did not expect everything would be perfectly done as other reviewers mentioned, and there are gaps and some imperfections but I don't want to pick on those small things. Rather move on and enjoy it. The designer (Heidi) was very open minded, kind and easy to work with. The installation guy was polite but had to rush to finish it since late so skipped a few gaps he could have filled in. But I can live with that. It will be appreciated for many years.

This is my dad. He started this business four years ago after 24 years in the corporate marketing…read moreworld. One day he threw up his hands and said, "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE," and bravely stepped into the small business world. He has NEVER looked back, and has never been happier. So sure, this review is going to be a little biased, but I'll give you a few examples: When my 3 siblings and I were kids, he built us a kick ass swing set. I mean TOTALLY kick ass, not from a kit, swing set. 4+ swings, a platform, monkey bars, hanging bars, etc. It survived our move from Delaware to Massachusetts! Sadly it's now kindling. Dad/Bob is currently remodeling my parents' house. This house was a dump. Old and trashy. Now, it has a sparkling new master bedroom and a bathroom to die for (among other things), making their lake neighbors oh so jealous. The work is stylish and to the point. I think he really listens to what his customers want (his customer in this case being my mom). Though he's had the business for only four years, he has decades of experience under his belt. He used to make my siblings and me sand, paint, and plaster his various home repair projects.. and now I thank him for it. Bob is available for jobs in the Central Mass/Rte 495 belt area. He can do everything from new windows, fancified bathrooms, and refinishing basements. References available upon request. Go, Dad, GO! PS. He's a deacon in my parents' Unitarian church, so in case you were doubting his integrity before, now you KNOW he's trustworthy!!

I am not one who enjoys writing bad reviews, but after discovering the latest mishap with the…read morebathroom renovation Red Oak did for us, I feel obligated. I'll start off with what is good -- Bob laid out his estimate in a professional manner and did not go over budget or try to sneak in hidden charges and fees. He also has a good head for design and layouts. His work crew was relatively neat and cleaned up after themselves. We had one small scratch on the front door and its screen door --but such minor things are to be expected from the wear and tear of such a job. He is also a very nice guy and easy to work with. However, I cannot recommend him for anything more than a simple job. If you do hire him, make sure that he subcontracts out things like plastering, painting and plumbing. (He does everything himself, which is good for price, but we are ending up paying for that discount by having to have stuff re-done.) Our job included a complete renovation of a bathroom, tearing it down to the studs. The rough in work was okay, but the finish work was left to Bob's crew while he worked on another job. Although they did a good job on some tasks, they were complete hacks in others. The floor tile was not laid flat -- they had no idea how to hang baseboard, and they started painting on the walls before the mud was dry or sanded properly. (Nor did they vacuum before painting either, resulting in dust being painted into the wall--it feels like sandpaper when you run your hand across it.) These were brand new walls and ceiling, and they look like silly putty. There were also paint stains and plaster stains on the tile, which we are unable to clean up. Bob knew we were unhappy, and did take half the cost of the paint job off the price. However, we have since brought in a plasterer, and are going to spend several hundred dollars redoing the walls and ceiling to cover up the job. The plasterer said the job was so bad we should sue, something I really have no interest in. We saved up our money for quite some time to do this job, and feel like we could have done a better job ourselves. Despite all this, I was not going to write a bad review until we found this morning another problem with the base-board heater they installed. The plumbing was poorly measured such that the heater element tilts into the room, making it impossible to put the cover on the baseboard. We will have to have the heating system drained and the bad part of the pipe re-done to fix it. We have not had an estimate on it yet, but I imagine we are now into the four figures to fix a job that cost us 15k all together. I do not enjoy dissing a business like this, but this whole experience has been very stressful, and enormously disappointing. I hope this was a result of the fact we got Bob's second crew, because I cannot understand how someone can call themselves a professional and do such a bad job. I only hope other people have had better experiences.

We had just finished a kitchen remodel in January 2019 (replaced all the cabinets, countertops, and…read morelights), but the floorman we'd contracted with had left us high and dry. We had subfloor and while we could have installed the new laminate floor we had, we'd have done a horrible job at it. Lou Gagne was highly recommended to us by a local business, many of whose employees had used his services. We gave him a call that evening. He came out to see us a couple days later and we discussed what had to be done. Install the laminate floor throughout the kitchen, dining room, and attached hallway, install baseboard everywhere but the kitchen, and install threshold where required. He said it would take two days and gave us a reasonable price. OK, so that's the background. Here's what we got. We got a perfectly installed floor, perfectly installed baseboard, someone who really enjoys his work (he sings to his boom box while on the job!), and he fixed some things that a previous contractor hadn't done right because it bugged him and only took a few minutes. The join between the living and dining rooms is perfect. My wife and I did the living room, and not particularly well. He matched the grout lines in the laminate perfectly. In the kitchen he got the laminate floor so close to the cabinets it looks like the floor goes under the cabinets. His idea of using gray grout was perfect as it matches the grout lines in the floor. These walls in our house are not square, but you'd never know it when you look at the baseboard corners. It didn't matter whether it was an inside or outside corner, in close quarters or not, Lou did it perfectly. He also screwed our subfloor down as it wasn't correctly nailed into the joists during construction in 1986. Can you say "squeak"? Not anymore! Lou also gave us some ideas of how we're going to do the backsplash in our kitchen and behind the stove, which we're going to take him up on as soon as possible. My wife and I trust Lou completely. When he says he can do something, he can really do it. Fair price, great work, and it really gives us pride of ownership in our home again. And at some point, we're going to find a figurine that represents what he can do and how well he does it, even if we need to design it ourselves.

We hired Handy Lou to do a total gut and remodel of our 1940's Cape Cod style kitchen and couldn't…read morehave been happier! He was very accessible, always in contact with us and quick to respond whether we reached out by phone, text, email, etc. His rate was more than fair, and totally transparent for all costs that would be involved. He really helped us plan and basically hand hold and walk us through the entire process from conceptualizing our options, where to buy materials, even color and design recommendations. He gave us an aggressive time window for job completion which was important to us with the Holidays looming; and he nailed it - finishing with time to spare. The work was absolutely meticulous, and the attention to details and small nuances make such a huge difference! He even went around to touch up and improve other details around the area not in the scope of the job; just because he thought it would improve the aesthetic and he takes so much pride in his work. This guy is a real artisan - not a laborer. He genuinely enjoys crafting beautiful work and it shows. Our kitchen came out mint - better than we even expected! In all honesty, he was so good at what he does we would be willing to pay MORE to have him work on our stuff than other contractors. I can't imagine using anyone else going forward. 5 star quality all around.
