Dr. Mertz sets his patients at ease. He doesn't beat around the bush, answers all our questions with a thorough explanation, offers prevention advice, and has a very proficient practice. The paperwork that is shared with the patient is modern and easy to follow. The admin help visibly work off the options of the health insurance I am using. The low waiting times with the waiting room and exam room have been impressive versus what I read of elsewhere. The overall operation is set up to run efficiently, which is too rare in the healthcare industry. The waiting area is large, clean and well-kept. I would recommend this practice to family and friends.

I was waiting hours and hours in the waiting room of my previous family practitioner and it was becoming a burden. He was a wonderful physician but the wait time was just too much. Luckily I found Family Practice Associates of Corpus Christi and was accepted as a new patient. That was about six months ago. Both my wife and I switched to Dr. Mertz. Dr. Mertz is fantastic. He doesn't beat around the bush, answers all our questions with a thorough explanation, and has a very proficient practice. Both my wife and I have seen Dr. Mertz several times since becoming his patients and every time we only spent five to ten minutes in the waiting room and only a couple minutes in the exam room before Dr. Mertz came in. I only wish I had found Dr. Mertz when I retired to Corpus Christi in 2005. My life would have been much better from a medical standpoint. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention his staff and the waiting area. His staff is wonderful in every regard. And the waiting area is large and clean. If you're considering Family Practice Associates of Corpus Christi, don't hesitate to give them a call. And by all means as to be assigned to Dr. Mertz.

LAST time I walked in and checked in and sat for well over an hour as the waiting area filled to standing room only....and I cancelled my check-in. So, back to plan A. Make an appointment, KEEP the appointment and I didn't have to wait but maybe 10 minutes. It's clear they're short-staffed. But if you make the appointment and keep it, they do get to you. I believe I was given bad advice a couple-times back. Definitely make an appointment. But, Labcorp: staff the office for the workflow. Not cool having a full waiting area anymore.

She wouldn't let us see the Doctor for a prescription unless we paid $200. $120 was for the visit and $80 for the labs. I told her we don't want to do the blood work because we were only there to get a prescription. She said it's our policy that you're always supposed to get blood work done every 3 months. Our last blood work was 5/25, it was 8/18, can't we reschedule, no. I told her as patients we have rights to refuse service, she said no you don't. It's our policy that you have to have blood work done. The she says you guys owe me $ from the last visit **what!**. I told her, you told us that normally you charge $80 but we can pay $60. Long Story Short, she called the cops on us because we were disruptive. I wanted all my medical history from them and was waiting patiently for it. I even asked for the copies of everything I filled out on our first visit and she said no, we're not giving them to you.

After his visit yesterday because the strep swab test in house came back negative (most likely to catching it TOO EARLY NOT uncommon), they didn't prescribe or help our son in anyway! We left the office with NOTHING. Told us to just keep alternating with motrin and Tylenol until the strep culture came back which would take 3 days...Excuse me, WHAT?!! We called today to communicate that he's not any better less than 24 hours after he was seen yesterday. They would not help us in anyway until this evening at 6pm and that was after basically begging them to call in my son medicine so he can get better. Kids DIE from prolonged, untreated strep. I did not feel comfortable waiting 3+ days to get this treated!! How is it safe to prolong a bacterial infection with no antibiotics, and just treat it multiple times daily for 3+ days with Tylenol & motrin?! This is what the NP instructed us to do! REALLY?! They were very rude and finally agreed to send in my son some antibiotics, and was very rude during that conversation name calling my husband pushy... They just wanted us to come in again, get $$ from us, and I guess felt ok with exposing my sick child again with germs. They don't care, simple as that & they showed that. I will never take my kids back here again. I'm absolutely disgusted with how my children, and my husband were treated here by staff and the NP provider that refused to help my son. Save your money, and time and go somewhere with people who ACTUALLY care.
