I called the next day, asked about the price, and cancelled the prescription. Luckily the pharmacy they selected to mail it to me every month hadn't filled it. So I cancelled the prescription. Then I cancelled my next appointment with the clinic. I was in bad shape when I arrived, so I wasn't quick enough to ask about the price, but a $1500 prescription that is almost never covered by insurance is something patients should be warned about.
