Dr. Banning did my cataract surgery. I had been near-sighted most of my life. I understood that…read moresurgery would improve my vision and I would still be slightly near-sighted. I was happy with that. He changed me to far-sighted without my knowledge. I spent months STRUGGLING to understand why I could not see the way I had expected. Dr. Shrack prescribed lenses, but she was not aware of what was causing my vision issues. I finally went to Dr. Banning to discuss my problems. He said that I requested to be far-sighted! After months of struggling this was the first I learned of the cause of my trouble. I was shocked as I would NEVER have requested this. He would not discuss and got mad and left the room. I tried different ophthalmologists and finally found an ophthalmologist and optometrist who helped me. The ophthalmologist said that most ophthalmologists will not make such a drastic change in a person's vision. If Dr. Banning really thought I wanted to be far-sighted, he should have discussed with me the problems this would cause. I would have realized he had it wrong and made the change before surgery. And, if he really cared about me, he would have seen that my hobbies are reading and sewing. These are not far-sighted activities. I think unkind thoughts of him every time I do something close.

I had Lasik surgery in both eyes at Discover Vision in June of 2012 with Dr Doane. As someone who…read morehas a severe astigmatism on both eyes and couldn't find contacts that I could stand in my eyes, I was very worried that this wouldn't be a "cure all" for me specifically. Today I am proud to report I no longer suffer from astigmatism but I can see BETTER than 20/20 in both eyes and they are still improving! I no longer need glasses or contacts and I do not suffer from any residual side effects including dry eye. I went to a lot of places in and around KC looking for the right Dr. for me. I liked Dr. Doane and his team tremendously. Dr. Parsons in the Independence office was there for my pre-op visit and did a number of tests to ensure I was a good candidate. Probably more importantly to me, made sure I had realistic expectations and had done my homework. I asked (and he answered) a lot of questions. I felt very, very comfortable moving forward after working with him and his staff and never felt rushed or pressured into making a choice or committing to anything until I was ready. When I was ready, the financing portion of their process was easy and uneventful. They will find a way to make it work for you if they can. The surgery center was so efficient that I couldn't believe how quickly I was finished! The pre and post-op staff at the Leawood office were so great and friendly, they made me feel very comfortable and so well taken care of. I also paid attention to everything they said to do, and I follow it to the letter. The surgery itself is painless. I didn't feel anything. It was the part I was the most worried about but it didn't hurt at all. Best advice I recieved: Go home and go to bed after. I ate something quick and took Advil PM after my surgery (in the car on my way home). By the time I woke up (6 hours later) I felt almost 100% better. USE YOUR DROPS!!! it will make all the difference. Your eyes will be uncomfortably "scratchy" and watery when you leave the surgery center...it will be almost 100% gone by the time you wake up. It's odd but true. If you are thinking about this surgery, go to Discover and at least do their free evaluation. I went to them because so many of my friends and co-workers went there and had great expirences. I can't believe I waited so long. It was the most life-changing thing I have ever done for myself. You don't know what you can't see until after you have this surgery. It actually makes me a little sad that I am just now really seeing the details in things at 37...but hey, better late than never. Thank you Dr. Parsons, Dr. Doane and all the staff that made this such a great, life-changing expirence for me personally. It has literally changed how I live my life every single day. Sincerely, Amanda R.

They wouldn't take my son's PD measurement unless we bought glasses there. Their glasses are too…read moreexpensive even after insurance benefit, so we went to Costco to get the PD and glasses. PD should be included in your basic vision exam. Very unhappy with Discover playing stupid games!
