Okay Oxtails!!!! Since my regular spot was only taking cash today, I followed my GPS to the next closest, non-chain *side eye* Jamaican spot. So I'm not going to lie...it was a little intimidating when I first pulled up. And I tried to walk in the wrong door because it was difficult to tell which one was for the customers, but everything happens for a reason because these oxtails...BABY! I always take a little bite in my car while it's hot...not me almost finishing the whole plate in the parking lot! Lol They were flavorful, tender, and the rice and beans and gravy were phenomenal together, which says a lot because I prefer the white rice. They gave about 6-7 MEATY oxtails. The extra cup of gravy on the side did seem loose for gravy, but on my plate, I could not tell. Cabbage was spicy and tasteful, 9/10, plantains were soooo good, juicy yet crisp, cooked PERFECTLY! 10/10 on those. Overall, the whole meal was 10/10, the price was pretty standard for Oxtails ($20-$25), the chef was nice (bartender was not super friendly initially, but she did give me the Yelp 10% off even though she didn't know what it was) so I will definitely be returning and recommending. They have a pool table and what appears to be a decently stocked bar and they take call ahead orders, but the food came out super fast (not very busy but a few patrons inside and call in orders). I've ordered the wings from Clifton's at least 4 times and each time they've been prepared differently. I took away 1 star because I can't get consistency with my wings. They were FANTASTIC one time and I haven't had that same experience since. I also have to specifically request that the lemon pepper wings are prepared dry because the default is wet wings which I don't like. The last order was a bunch of super small wings just shy of the 20 that I ordered. I usually order via UberEats and didn't want the hassle of trying to correct it after the fact since I already had to call to request that they make them dry. I'm really puzzled about what happened today. I ordered a curry goat roti, the curry goat was salty and the roti was hard and stale. I KNOW what a proper curry goat roti should taste like, for one, I'm Trini and I'm also half Indian.....so I know. They have a pool table inside. Drinks: no specialty cocktail drinks here. Don't even act fancy. Get a mixed drink instead. Food: The Jerk Pork, Jerk Chicken, & Curry Chicken are very delicious! The oxtails are good but you don't get your money's worth. They give you 5 big oxtails maybe 6. That's it. The collard greens, plantain & cabbage are delicious! Although it is a whole in the wall I used to love this place. The jerk chicken, peas and rice, cabbage and oxtails were all exceptional. Not sure what has changed, I assume management has changed and the owner who used to prepare the food is no longer there because today the food was sub-par at best. Also side note I placed a to go order so hubby went in to get the food and when he returned to the car the stench of marijuana was unbelievable. No judgement do what you do I just don't want to smell it. Anyway, the jerk chicken tasted like lighter fluid and was as dry as the Sub-Saharan dessert. The greens were too spicy to taste any other seasoning. I guess they ran out of season when they cooked the cabbage because it was bland. Peas and rice blah. My boyfriend and I eat from here often. We always order takeout and have never eaten in. Unfortunately service can suck but the food is worth it. We often have trouble placing orders both in the restaurant and over the phone, but I don't mind for good food. There has been only one occasion where the food was a miss, but since them, no issues. The ox tails are delicious as well as the curry chicken. I love that they actually grill the jerk chicken as some Caribbean places tend to bake it .
