I almost want to keep this review under my hat so they won't be too busy to service my car the next…read moretime I need them. But I'm going to pay it forward since I found them based on a YELP review. Initially when I called I had to leave a message because no one picked up the phone. I'm going to attribute that to them probably being on their lunch break. But after they returned my call I had no doubt I had found a keeper! I had arranged with Dennis to drop off my car in the morning and they would call me after they checked it out. First of all, they said I needed a new exhaust, new front tires and new front brakes and calipers. They said whoever had done my exhaust last (Agolia & Sons, BP) had performed a patch up job! For the nearly same price Agolia charged me for a "new exhaust", I got 2 front tires, new brakes and a new exhaust! Before I went to Fix N Fuel, I was thinking of buying a new car because I didn't feel safe in it. But now I feel I have my "baby" back. She may be over 300k miles, but she's running like a dream! The guys at Fix N Fuel were honest, reliable and for the quality of their work, charge very reasonable prices. It is a huge weight off my shoulders knowing I NOW have mechanics that I can trust and count on. I highly recommend this business!

You don't want to read a 5-paragraph review when you're looking for a mechanic. These guys are…read morehonest, fast, and priced fairly. We drove up to NJ from DC and some nuts came loose on our wheel. There was an awful wobbling sound as the wheel was absolutely loose. I checked the tire, I checked under the car, but of course I had no clue. We thought the damn car was falling apart. A mechanic that wanted to take us for a ride could have made up any story and charged us $200+ for some nonsense work. Instead, these guys told the honest truth, charged us less than $60, and had our car fixed up in 1 hour. You can't go wrong with this place!!!

If I could give zero stars, I would. This shop's negligence put my life in danger…read more I had my car towed to Park Street Automotive with clear symptoms of a critical suspension failure: a violent lurch to the left when braking, a loud rumbling, and a worsening steering wobble. They ignored these critical safety symptoms and diagnosed only a noisy exhaust. When I questioned this, they were dismissive and, after the repair, told me to "take it on the freeway for a spin and see what happens." I took it to another shop for a second opinion instead. They immediately found the real problem: the front control arm had failed and my wheel was literally about to fall off. The issue had nothing to do with the exhaust. A mechanic who fails to perform a basic safety inspection and tells you to "see what happens" with a failing front end is not someone who should ever be trusted with your vehicle or your safety.

Ridiculous At first, over the phone I was quoted a price of $950 to fix it again! When I showed up with my dad, it was $570. This owner is a crook! DON'T GO HERE! I would give zero stars if I could. UPDATE: 6/27/19 I took my truck to Driveworks in Jersey City and the cost of a new compressor is $280 and I paid $300 for labor and Freon. This is much cheaper than the original $950 I paid for the same services at Van Houten. Be advised that after I posted this poor review, the owner left me a voicemail "to make me an offer." I never returned the call.

They never make me feel dumb for asking questions, they walk me through what needs to be done as well as what it'll cost and they never pressure me to do more than what is needed at the time. I took my car to Pepboys once on a weekend because Five Star was closed when I noticed an issue & boy was that a mistake. Pepboys charged me for a repair that didn't even fix the problem BUT when I took it to Five Star the following Monday, they were able to find the actual problem & didn't charge me an arm and a leg for it. My only complaint could be about the lack of weekend hours, but honestly, I get it. We all need to rest at some point. I should note, however, that they do have an overnight key drop which is convenient for when I work earlier than they open the next day.

I don't know how to adequately express how great these guys are. I think it's been 7 or so years…read morethat I've been seeing them for my BMW. They consistently exceed expectations: -They always explain everything in a way that's understandable to me, a layperson. They will show me the issue if they can. - They don't rush me. - Prices are fair. - They are honest and will tell me if I don't need something. - They have answered emergency calls on Saturday night when I'm trying to figure out whether my car is safe to drive home from vacation. - They have counseled me on what to expect and what to ask for when I was stranded out of town and had to get repairs done at a local shop. - Mark has made (local) house calls to my driveway to pull error codes. - My glove box broke while the car was under warranty--wouldn't close--and the dealer refused to fix it under warranty and then actually couldn't find a fix at all. I ignored it for a couple of years but it made me mad every time I looked at it. On one of my early appointments with them, Billy and the guys surprised me by having spent a couple of afterhours jury-rigging a way to get the thing to close and open. Their creative engineering has held all these years. There was no charge for this--it was a "fun challenge" they said. - Mark has a really high level of expertise and goes to continuing education conferences where he forms personal relationships with key experts and vendors. - He is one of the few places around here that TRULY knows transmissions, to the point where other shops send their transmission jobs to him. This place is a GEM!!!
