Just went to Cliffs for the first time in awhile for breakfast. The Good. The Omelette was delicious. They have a habanero cheese that was very good and you won't find many breakfast places that have that hot of a cheese as an option. They have newspapers at the counter to read that is a big plus for me when I go to breakfast alone. The Bad Too expensive. They don't include home fries with your Omelette and to add them is 2 dollars. Omelette is supposed to come with toast. I asked if I could get a grilled English instead and there was not mention of an up charge but when the bill came I was charged 1.59 for the english muffin. That is highway robbery in my view. They charge for ice coffee re-fills. I'll never understand why an establishment would do this. You can drink all the hot coffee you want but to have a refill cold it costs you. Summary If you are in the middle of Cliffs and Breens in Pepperell as I am. Go to Breens. You get home fries with your meal and ice coffee refills. read more

on a Saturday it took a one hour from the time we got there until the time we paid our bill. I was particularly frustrated that we waited a half hour to get our food. we almost left before the food came we were so annoyed. the food is still pretty good but the service was awful. read more

Bad service, questionable cleanliness, OK food. We have eaten here several times and been okay with the experience. However our last visit was very revealing and a major turn off. We will never return here, which is too bad because it has a lot of potential with a perfect little location and outside dining facing the town square in Townsend. Bad Service: Treat their customers as something to be dealt with. I observed them be rude to two customers and then talk behind their backs. One customer was complaining that he had been sitting outside for 20 minutes and his order had not been taken. The owner said they had a sign out front saying that people should check in inside first before seating themselves. The sign is on a chalkboard and easy to miss. After the man went back to his table the owner then commented on "who would sit for 20 minutes waiting for service?" implying the guest was an idiot for being patient as servers walked right past him serving other guests. Another customer had been waiting 45 minutes to an hour to get their food after the order had been placed. The owner explained "we're working on it and we got a whole bunch of orders that hit at once". After this guest left the staff commented that they probably sat themselves because the table they were sitting at was reserved for parties of 4 or more. Basically implying that it was the customer fault they didn't get their food yet because they didn't follow the rules. Well earlier I saw the owner tell them to sit there because there was no other seating available. Questionable Cleanliness: My wife got a hair in her home fries. When I alerted the busboy he asked if she wanted new home fries... instead of apologizing and promptly replacing the entire plate! Gross, so the solution to having a hair on your plate is replacing the part of the food on the plate where you found the hair? The patio outside is so overrun with flies that it's impossible to defend your food. When we mentioned the flies to the owner... again it was our fault for seating ourselves outside instead of checking inside first where they would have "warned us about the flies". We suggested that they put fans outside to deter the flies but the owner responded how " its an old building and they have no electricity outside". At the same time I am looking at three light fixtures which could easily be replaced by ceiling fans and an electrical outlet on the side of their sign that is facing the road. It seems that not caring and living in denial is better than taking guest suggestions seriously. Of course if they washed the patio on a regular basis to get rid of all the bits of food scraps then this would also likely reduce the problem with the flies. I know with that many flies outside that quite a few must be going into the kitchen as traffic walks inside through the single screen door. OK Food: The pancakes are very thick and cake like. Not my personal preference but I'm sure there are some that like this style. The syrup served is the cheap imitation syrup. You have to buy a little bottle of real syrup if you want it. The omelets are good and the home fries are also good, when it doesn't have hair in it. Breakfast sandwiches are good. read more

Nice place to have breakfast with the family. The food is very good and the prices are reasonable. The menu is also pretty diverse with something for everyone. My only compliant is the location which is at the biggest intersection in town. Parking is not that bad, but the tractor trailers constantly driving by make eating outside a nightmare. read more

Good local breakfast / lunch joint with typical menu options. They do have specials every week, including pancake specials. I usually get a blueberry pancake - it is massive! One will do for most. Have stopped here for b'fast a few times before taking off for a full day of motorcycling. Oddly, I haven't ever been inside, yet, because we always sit out front on the porch to eat, LOL. Food is good, waitstaff is very friendly and fellow diners tend to be a chatty friendly bunch, too. Now that I've gotten around to reading their Yelp reviews, I'll skip my usual poached-eggs-on-toast order next time and check out that Portugese sweetbread French toast or one of their pancakes! I had frequented Cliff's years ago when I road my motorcycle with friends. Recently I chose Cliff's as a destination as I wanted to take a ride. It is about an hour from my home and offers a nice drive. It was a beautiful day so I decided to eat outside. Excellent decision. I had the blueberry pancake which I really enjoyed. I say pancake and not pancakes as I was advised that one would be plenty. The pancake was huge and was indeed plenty for one person. It tasted great. Coffee was tasty too. I was in the area yesterday waiting for our team to finish up a house cleaning in Pepperell so I could do the final inspection, when I realized I skipped breakfast. I was going to stop at gourmet donuts but decided to come here instead. Kirsten, greeted me at the door, I took a seat she offered me coffee and gave me the paper. Cliffs, has a homey feel to it. My food came swiftly and was perfect! The home fries were probably the best I've ever had! My wife grew up in the area and hasn't been there since she was a child so Cliffs, will definitely be seeing me again this time with the family! read more

My morning ruined! First let me say I've been here before and the breakfast has been OK. This morning was a different story however, My wife and I figured would give them another shot. Breakfast arrived in a normal amount of time however the home fries weren't cooked at all (like eating par boiled potatoes at best). I informed the waitress they weren't cooked and so I asked if they could be cooked more to which the answer was a short yes. While waiting for my potatoes to be cooked I break my eggs open. I asked for them to be cooked over medium, instead they are runny white throughout and all over my plate (I would call it barely over easy). My potatoes return and I inform the waitress my eggs aren't cooked properly I get a sigh/OK and she asked over easy right? My answer was no over medium. Now back to the potatoes that came to me after I discovered my eggs not cooked properly. They looked more brown and almost like they were cooked so I take a bite, man looks are deceiving. They were just as hard as they were before, I stand up and go to the counter to tell the waitress to cancel my eggs because I'm not eating anything else from there. I get the cold shoulder from there on out, bill slapped on table and so on. My meal wasn't on the bill and if it was I wouldn't have paid for it anyways. Oh, and if you like boiled/steamed sausage make sure to order them, it might even be precooked out of the package. If you want sub-par food at regular prices visit Cliff's. Huge pancakes, best deal. Canned hash and no fancy meals. Don't try to get there early, doesn't open til 7. May have to wait for home fries til 7:30 or 8:00 when they cook them. No homemade muffins or breads. read more

Best known as a local Breakfast place but it is so much more. Each day a special is offered that is sure to please the most discriminating taste. My favorites are the Waldof Chicken Salad and the cheeseburger soup. Never sure what special Dave will whip up but it always sure to please. read more
