Safety and proper form were clearly a priority, and Zee gave individual attention throughout the session to make sure everyone was doing the exercises correctly and getting the most out of the workout. It doesn't get better than that. Talk about learning from the best... The environment and culture he's created at GT West is one of the key elements that separates itself from other gyms and schools. There's a respect and camaraderie among everyone that doesn't just happen over night. Walking into my first jiu-jitsu class, I was nervous and was half expecting to get choked out every 2 seconds. What I love about this school is that everyone made me feel welcome that day, each of my rolling partners allowed me to run moves and drill to get comfortable with what I was doing and was truly interested in helping me get better. No one took advantage of it being my first day because (as I later learned) Bamboo wouldn't allow it. I could go on and on about Coach Bamboo's talent in MMA and especially in jiu-jitsu which is on another level but how he conveys each move from the finest detail to the theory behind it is what I really value as a student. So much so that I signed up my two nephews who started at ages 4 and 7 years old. They fell in love with jiu-jitsu as I did because the coaches made it fun and at the same time instilled respect. Gracie Tampa West is a place where anyone at every skill level can train. From just wanting to get in shape to training at the highest level, there's no better place to train. It used to hurt when I would go to sleep and was just sore all the time. When I practice Oom Yung Doe, I feel so much better. Its like the scoliosis is no longer there. But it is of course. So, I had my chiropractor monitor how I am improving. He told me that what is happening is all my muscles around the spinal cord are being strengthened and is correcting my spine. If I stop practicing though, it will go back to what it was before. So I will never stop. My chiro was pretty amazed as to the result of my training. He is also a life long Judo expert and still he was pretty amazed at how this practice is affecting my back in a positive way. My arm also used to go numb at times and no longer does. This is awesome. Asst head instructor Nate is an extremely courteous instructor and cares for each individual and will tailor your training to you. I've had the privilege of training under coach Bill for a few years. I cannot express enough how…read morepassionate and enthusiastic he is about martial arts that is actually practical. I say that with an emphasis because there are a lot of Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ) gyms popping up these days that focus on wining matches and scoring points. You must do your own research and due diligence to pick a gym that's right for you. I have been training BJJ for over 10 years now and my best advice for you is to register for a free trial class. There's no amount of review-reading you can do that will compare to the feedback you get from your first class. Then, decide if it's for you or not. Fair? One standout aspect you should know about Blast MMA and coach Bill is that he is a well-rounded martial artist. He doesn't just do jiu jitsu. He does wrestling, Judo, and striking (MMA) as well. It's natural to assume oh if he does other things, maybe his jiu jitsu or his striking may not be as good. Uh uh. That's not the case here. He's at the same level in all of them! The way I see it, coach Bill views them all as different parts making up one single, complete art. They aren't siloed or separated for him. I've seen him coach BJJ tournaments, Muay Thai matches and MMA fights - big and small. He's done it all. You can expect to absorb all of his knowledge here at Blast MMA! I don't personally do striking but you'll surely be doing a lot of take downs (Judo, wrestling, MMA) here. Once you advance in ranks, you will learn many kinds of leg locks. You will also learn back attacks, chokes and submissions that coach Bill has tested and refined over the years. You can expect powerful techniques that work in any settings - a self-defense situation, a BJJ tournament, or an MMA fight. The "Power Kimura" that he taught me is still a part of my game today. In case you don't yet understand all the above BJJ and MMA lingo, don't worry about it. If you have been wondering about starting your fight journey, all I have to say is register for that free trial class. That's exactly how I got hooked - a free trial class. I had been thinking about training for a couple years before that. I wished I started sooner. Don't do what I did. Start NOW! I go to check in and I was told there is a cap for silver sneakers members. I was told I would have to reapply and it would take 30 day to approve it. My goodness what intelligent person came up with this idea. ? I will be reporting this to silver sneakers. If you have encountered this to please complain to them. Also I looked at the gym it only had an about 10 people working out in it.
