I have gone to Clear Lake Eye Center for 4 years. I always saw Dr Hernandez who was excellent. Dr. Hernandez was caring and thorough and an overall great doctor. I went for my yearly appointment on April 30, 2024. When I checked in and had my preliminary workup done, I waited in the room for Dr. Hernandez. Instead, Dr Brending came in and proceeded with the exam. I stopped her five minutes into the exam and asked where Dr Hernandez was. Her reply was, "She's not here anymore". She would not tell me where she went, she refused to say. Dr Brending advised me to try Neurolens. She said it would take 2 weeks to get them in. After 4 weeks, I had to call and ask where they were....surprisingly they arrived that day. They did not work, I could not see anything out of the lens's. They sent them back for re-calibration (?), again promising 2 weeks. This time I waited until week 5 and I had to call them to find out they were in. Again, they did not work, the lens's were worse the second time. They wanted me to come in for an in-depth vision exam. I refused. I should mention these cost me $1000 out of pocket, (insurance will not pay). I willingly paid that because the benefit of the Neurolens seemed worth it. I asked for a refund for 6 weeks, they would not discuss it. They instead put updated lens's in my current glasses and I received a ridicules refund of $400. While yes, the money is the frustrating part, it's all about the service I received, which was 1 star at best. I've never had an eye doctor who does not call when your glasses are ready. And I can't figure out why I wasn't notified about Dr Hernandez. My advice, if you went there to see Dr. Hernandez, don't waste your time going now. If anyone knows where she went to practice, please advise. Please read the other one star reviews....this has happened to me so I whole heartedly agree !! read more

I've seen 3 different doctors in the short time I've been a patient here, always without any communication it would be a different doctor. Additionally, I agreed to be seen by a student doctor, and was assured one of the main doctors would review his work. They obviously didn't because my prescription was so wrong, when I went in for the fit appointment I might as well have been blind. My entire exam had to be redone and I had to wait for trials all over again while out of contacts. Then my trials were back ordered and the only reason I even knew that was from calling over and over because they once again didn't bother to communicate. I was pregnant at the time and scheduled all of this over a month before my due date to make sure I'd have contacts. I ended up giving birth before the second trials came in, so I called from the hospital to let them know I had a newborn and would not be able to come in for a fit appointment, I would need them to just give me the trials. They said okay, and that they'd let me know when they came in. THREE WEEKS later, they've finally come in and they called to schedule a fit appointment in a WEEK. I told them I need contacts now and am not able to come in as I just had a baby. I've worn contacts since age 10, have never had a doctor before require me to come in and pay for a second visit just to look at the contacts every time. But here we are and they won't give me the trials, even under the circumstances. Not to mention my first appointment I waited for the doctor for over an hour. They also are always pushing their ridiculously expensive dry eye treatments. So I guess I'll be starting over with a new doctor when I feel ready to either leave my newborn or take him with me to a doctor's office. read more

If i could give 6 stars I would. The staff was great very nice got me back right away. Everyone took their time at explaining every question I had and went above and beyond to help me. I couldn't be happier. I have a more complicated issue that the last dr I saw didn't want to take the time the dr here really spent a lot of time making sure I knew exactly what was going on formulate a plan and help me. I really enjoyed getting my annual eye exam at this location. Staff: The doctor was extremely knowledgeable and thorough during my exam, asking me lots of questions and explaining the cause of some of my symptoms. She was professional,but also opened up to me when I asked her a personal question. It was nice to feel like my doctor was a real personThat I could trust and connect with. I believe Office Space: The office was very neat and tastefully decorated. I also enjoyed the nice array of machines for eye testing. It just looked really fancy. If you have a fear of the test with the eye puff, no need to worry because they don't do that here. They used a handheld device that just feels like a tickle. Frames: They had a nice variety of prescription frames from different designers across varying price points. With my taste, I went to the designer wall, but was shocked to see that some of the frames were upwards of $500. They were names like Tom Ford and Gucci, but I have seen similar frames from the same designers for only about $300 at different locations. The frames here are definitely expensive. They do have more affordable options around the $150-$250 mark, so they do have a little bit of some thing for everyone. Based on what your insurance covers, you can get an additional 20% off of the overage, which does take care of the price a little bit. Overall I had a great time at Clearlake Eye Center, and will definitely back for my next check up. I'm not sure if I will actually buy my glasses there, but I enjoyed the visit nonetheless.. read more

Waited nearly 30 minutes and was never called in to see the doctor. Was ignored the whole time I sat there and waited. Why would I give my money to a place like this? I guess they're used to dealing with old people who have nowhere else to be? I don't get it. Plus, I was asked to fill out forms I had already done online - clearly no preparation (or even checking my file) before I arrived. Was asked to scan a QR code to fill out a questionnaire without being told why or what it was for. Turns out it's for something called Neurolens that costs $850-2000 from what I found online (doing my own research during the half hour I had to sit there). I had my first eye exam here last week with Dr. Hernandez, and all the staff at this facility were friendly. They got me in a couple days after I called to schedule an appointment, the checkin process was easy, and the exam was thorough. My prescription barely changed so I didn't end up ordering new glasses but they helped me look at about a dozen pairs and were helpful in showing me glasses similar to designs I liked. read more

My two children and I had our yearly eye exams at this facility a year ago. The Optometrist recommended that my children wear glasses based on their test results. I was also told that I needed progressive lens glasses. During our visit with the eye glass person, she told me all of the features of the glasses that I would require. I was informed that the glasses would cost $500. When I said that I did not have that much money, she suggested that I use a credit card. Finally, after spending over $200 for my children's prescription glasses, I did some research regarding their vision test results. I confirmed through reliable sources that my children did not require glasses and all children have vision issues because their eyes are still developing. I will not be doing business with these folks again. Buyer Beware! Even the vision industry has "slick salespeople" who are more interested in making profits than taking care of their patients! read more

Always impressed by Dr. Brending and her staff. Thorough eye exams and impressive help with contacts and glasses. My daughter had seen many ophthalmologists and had many pairs of glasses. Her vision wasn't terrible to start with, maybe 20/40 then to 20/80 iver the years. Her vision was never corrected to better than 20/30. Dr. Brending took one look and determined her eye axis is slightly askew. She explained you have to adjust the prescription of the patient. With contacts and glasses my daughter now sees 20/20 or better. She and her staff are excellent! read more

I find this business to think higher of themselves than of the clients who choose their services. This was my first visit to this particular establishment. The questions you are required to answer for an eye exam are one thing. FYI folks, you have to sign a waiver for missing an appointment that allows them to charge you or your insurance. Here is my problem. I showed up 15 minutes early for my appointment. The appointment was at 4, I arrived at 3:45. I left the facility at 4:21 because NOT 1 person addressed me during that time. This is 21 minutes past my appointment time. No one talked to me or gave me an explanation for the delay. No one engaged me other than the receptionist when I came in. It's abundantly clear your time is of no value, but they feel theirs comes with a price. Until they are willing to hold themselves to the same standards they demand of client, I would look elsewhere, There are numerous options! read more

Everyone here is so sweet and friendly! I went in on a Monday for a regular check up and I told them I wanted to try contacts because I had a wedding this weekend. They were super awesome and was able to get me in the next day for a training! They were super accommodating and made getting contacts super smooth! I have seen Dr. Chen in this practice for 2 years now. She is excellent in her exam and is very caring and interested in your vision needs. I do not like my eyes dilated so I opt for the equipment verses the dilating drops. This helps me so much. The optical shop area does a great job assisting you with your glasses selection and utilizing your benefits with your vision insurance. Prices are the standard fees for office visits and they are up front with you if something is not covered by insurance and let you know what to pay out of pocket. There are no surprises with what you have to pay for. There are all price ranges of glasses. You get what you pay for and of course progressive lenses and bifocal lenses cost more than regular lenses. This is a very professionally run office. read more

Decided to see Dr. Brending the first time 2 weeks ago after reading awesome reviews in Yelp. Dr. Brending took her time thoroughly examine & clearly explain what she was doing the entire time (actually the most time I ever spent on eye examination). The staffs there were all friendly & wonderful. The glasses selection was a little bit limited (though there ARE lots of them to choose from, I'm just a bit pickier than others). If you have an insurance, here is the cool part- if lens & frame you choose are over the insurance payout, you will get 20% off the difference. So out of pocket for me was about $130 less than other place that I have gone to in previous. Waited for a week for my bifocal glasses to be picked up, Mike (the gentleman who help me with the pick up) couldn't be any friendlier. He took his time adjusting the glasses so it would fit me correctly & clearly explain the warrantee on the frame & lens. 2 thumbs up from me. read more

I am 24 years old and I've never had an eye exam before. Honestly, I knew I needed glasses, but just didn't think that my eyes were that bad. I finally got fed up of the u turns and not being able to read the aisle signs in the grocery store, so I decided it was time. I found the Clear Lake Eye Center by just looking up what was in my network and closest to me. I couldn't have been luckier. Dr. Brending and the whole staff at CLEC were amazing from the moment I booked my appointment. They worked with me on getting them all the paperwork necessary before I even stepped into their office. And once I stepped in they knew exactly who I was. And I must add, there was another lady in there who was a week early, and this staff was so nice. They aren't jaded or condescending like you find in other doctor's offices when you make a mistake. And they weren't patronizing with me at all for going without glasses for so long. The exam was thorough and they were all kind. When it came around to picking out frames, the poor girl helping me was so nice. I must have tried on every frame there, and she gave her honest opinion and was very patient. I ended up choosing a pair of frames she specifically sought out for me. When it came down to purchasing them, another lady came to help me understand everything on my insurance. I'm telling you, they are wonderful there. I was on vacation recently. One night I went to sleep with my glasses on my chest. When I woke up, I found my glasses wrapped up in the cover at my feet. They were broken. I looked at listings to find a place to fix my glasses. I went to the top two rated places. The first place, I will not name, told me that there was nothing that they could do. The second place listed was the Clear Lake Eye Center. They should be listed first. The Optician told me that they could help. They couldn't be fixed, so they ordered a replacement part and a new pair of frames, just in case the part wouldn't work. They had them sent overnight. They were able to use the part to fix my glasses. They also gave me a new case and cleaning cloth. It was all at a very reasonable price. They took care of me and helped save my vacation. The Optician and other staff were very nice and professional. Thanks again for your kindness, I appreciate you all at the Clear Lake Eye Center. Highest recommendation. read more
