It gives me no pleasure to write this review. I met German through initial jobs to clean my HVAC systems and he did a great job. He was very detail oriented and strived for excellence. I was so impressed that I tipped him and his son. This summer I hired him to take care of odds and ends with my HVAC that others refuse to do (e.g., finish installing fresh air ventilation system, reduce noise from bath fans, etc.). We agreed on $2800 for the job. German and his team got 80% of the job done in 1 day. I was not there when the job was finished and anyways there were a lot of details, so I took the next few days to make a punch list. It was 8 items long, mostly really small things (e.g., adding mesh screen to fresh air intake so birds don't get in). Some of them were just questions that could be clarified with discussion. I decided to pay the balance on the job even without going over the punch list with German because I was so impressed with him and I thought I have no reason not to trust him. And then for some unknown reason, things went south. I tried many many times to call and text German to find a time to go over the list and most of the time I got no response. A couple times he said he'd call me at a certain hour so I cleared my calendar to make sure I was available at those times and still he didn't call. No apologies, nothing. I really couldn't believe it since I thought so highly of German. A couple months after the job, I decided to start working on the punch list myself, either performing the work on my own, hiring my carpenter to do it, or deciding to accept existing performance. I got the list down to 1 item. I called and texted German a few times to try to engage him on this 1 item that really requires an HVAC professional and to try to end things on a positive note. Still nothing. So now I've decided to end the relationship and leave reviews. I'm sorry to have to do this because I think German does great work but the post-job experience has just been terrible. At times I have felt like I'm begging for him to engage with me and yet I'm the customer! I really wanted to refer him to my brother who needed to replace his HVAC system but I couldn't given the last few months. Hired a small business, Clean Air Inc., to clean our AC ducts, and wow! What an improvement. You can really tell the difference. German Vargas and his Son, Victor, spent 8 hours without a break cleaning every inch of our ducts, returns, and vents. They were so cruddy, they cleaned them twice. Then they sanitize with a disinfectant. Then they vacuumed out our radiators, and cleaned out our dryer vent as well. All for their $399 spring special. I was dubious at first, since some of the quotes I received were between $800 - $1,200. Honestly, I've never seen a Father/Son team work so hard, and well together. I sent a request to every company that I could find on Yelp for the unit I needed. They gave me the cheapest price of all of them it was a few thousand dollars cheaper than some and around a thousand dollars cheaper than most of them. I really appreciated that they were able to even get me a better unit than the one I wanted and registered the warranty for me and put everything in very quickly. I originally called Clean Air Inc because my AC was not working. They came out cleaned the outdoor coil with a chemical, did a complete maintenance and my system started working properly and has been working ever since. To my surprise all it needed was a coil cleaning! Since then I have had Clean Air Inc come and clean my Ducts and my Dryer Vent. They gave me a great price and were extremely thorough. They not only cleaned my air ducts but they cleaned the heating and cooling system components as well which most companies don't offer because they are not HVAC specialists like Clean Air Inc's technicians. Great company, great work, great price. I was a little leery of this place going in because their price was so much lower than everyone else. They quoted $245 for my entire town home including the furnace and dryer vents, while other places quoted $4-700. They gave me an appt. window of 9-11AM. Called the day ahead to remind me and 30 minutes before they showed up, which was early, right around 9:30. Nice guys, got right to work. They cleaned all of the vent covers inside and out, did every vent in the entire house thoroughly. They even fixed my dryer vent for free when they discovered that it wasn't properly connected in the ceiling. read more

Like the other Yelper, I was also concerned about booking with this contractor because their price to clean the dryer vent and HVAC system was significantly lower than the other 3 companies I called (Clean Air's price was $295 for the entire cleaning). I need not have worried. They gave me a 2-hour window and showed up on-time. They called before they showed up, as they said they would. They were VERY thorough, professional, worked diligently for several hours (it's a long process), and left my house clean. The price quoted was exactly what was charged. They cleaned every single register and return (some other companies only clean the return vents), and even vacuumed around the bathroom exhaust vents, even though that's not really part of what they do. The company was very easy to contact and responded well through e-mail. I find it hard to contact businesses during the work day, so this is important to me. They were working on Memorial Day(!), and showed up when they said they would and got right to work. The workers are very clean and professional and communicated with me very well. There is no way for me to tell how good of job they did inside of the ducts, but they took their time and seemed very thorough. They did leave some dust around the house where they were working, but nothing unexpected. The only detraction for me is that this service uses a portable rotating brush / vacuum inside of the ducts. This vacuum apparently does not suck up all of the stuff being cleaned out of the ducts, as afterwards, my brand new (expensive) air filter was completely clogged and there was a significant amount of dirt on the coils inside of the furnace. Next time, I will probably use a company that utilized the truck mounted vacuums, but this company is a good company to deal with. read more

We were quietly melting when German came on a Saturday when It seemed like everyone in the world had also broken AC issues and it was very tough to get someone to come a look at it. He came in quickly identified the issue and went to work. I contacted several companies for quotes on air duct cleaning for our townhouse. It is new construction, and I was pretty sure the ducts weren't cleaned when we moved in 2 years ago. With a new baby on the way, I wanted to get rid of any dust that could be lurking in our vents. The quote from Clean Air was in the middle of the pack and the flat rate special wasn't based on the number of vents and included dryer vent cleaning. I selected them partially based on price and a recommendation from a local Facebook moms group. It was raining the day of our scheduled service, so they made sure to call and ensure we were ok with the crew possibly tracking mud or dirt in the house, which was fine. The owner and his assistant showed up within the time window provided and were very polite. They got right to work and I could tell they were careful and meticulous. They took the cover off each vent and used what looked like a giant vacuum to clean. They also were careful to ask or let us know if they needed to move anything. They were here for nearly four hours in total for the duct cleaning and two additional services they recommended. I was very pleased overall with the level of service for the price, which wasn't cheap, but as with all things you get what you pay for. I would use their services again. The crew just left my house after spending two and half hours cleaning my vents, finding problems with the system and generally helping me troubleshoot my AC system. Just for context, I bought my house about two months ago and the previous owners were chain smokers. Every time I ran the AC, the house would smell like a dirty ashtray and I would wake up in the middle of the night, nauseous and coughing. A friend at work suggested I get the ducts cleaned. Boy, am I glad that I did! I called requesting same day service for a dryer vent inspection because my condo association was threatening to bring charges against me . Despite extremely short notice and the threat of imminent, inclement weather, both the office manager and the manager of the company showed sincere empathy (a rarity these days) offered me the soonest available appointment for the very next day. Their dedication to customer didn't end there though; the manager himself (!) ended up making a detour on his way home from work, that same day (within half an hour of my call), to conduct the inspection (AND CLEANING!!) himself so that I would not be subjected to my ridiculous condo association's charges. I initially hired Clean Air for an air duct cleaning just after buying my townhouse in Burke, VA -- and was very happy with their professionalism, timeliness, and value. The company's owner, German, and one additional crew member came out to my house. They arrived on-time (called ahead before showing up), and were very professional throughout the service. They were happy to share "before" and "after" pictures from inside my vents to show me the impressive results of the cleaning. German also took time to answer numerous questions I had about my system (again, new home owner), and essentially walked me through a lot of useful information to educate me on maintaining my system. In the process, he noticed that my return's drain pipe wasn't feeding into the drain hole at all (was just emptying onto my basement floor), so he went out to his truck, grabbed some PVC, and corrected the drain's routing right there on the spot. They also cleaned my dryer vent as part of the vent cleaning service, and I couldn't believe how much lint came out. Was a serious fire hazard. Lastly, German helped me install a new thermostat that I'd bought but had not yet installed. Again, this was not part of the original service call, but when I mentioned it, he was glad to help. The price for the vent cleaning was exactly what I'd been quoted, and beat the competitive bids I'd obtained. My first experience was great, and I'm writing this review after a really great second experience. I called Clean Air after coming home from work on a very cold day (the first of the year) to find that my house was very cold and my unit appeared stuck on Auxiliary heat. If you're looking a company that does not show up or return voicemails or text messages, this is the company for you. I scheduled an appointment a month and a half ago for an appointment 3 weeks out. The day before the appointment, I received a text asking if they could reschedule because the technician went out of town and missed his flight so his appointments were pushed to the following week. I had no issue with this. However, on the day of the appointment, nobody showed up or called. After the 4 hour window passed, I called twice throughout the day and left a message asking if someone was still coming as well as texted the lady that asked to reschedule my original appointment. I never received any responses or call back. I never write reviews, but felt I had to write about how unprofessional this was. I highly recommend German and his team. After they did an excellent job cleaning our vents, I asked him for an estimate to replace our furnace/HVAC. I collected three others and his was very competitive. They were able to start in a relatively short period of time and couldn't have been more thorough. Our old unit ended up being a lot of extra work to remove and new lines needed to be run from our compressor so as to not contaminate our new system. They stayed late and returned the next day until everything was completed to perfection. I'm not so sure that any of the other companies would have gone the extra mile the way German did. I called Clean Air INC. when the AC in the house I'm renting stopped working in 90 degree weather. They came out the same day I contacted them and quickly identified the problem. They fixed my upstairs unit rather quickly, but due to my landlord's home owner policy i just asked for an invoice of the issue with my downstairs unit. The fix would have been a temporary fix and they offered it to me at a discounted price (along with a military discount), but since I am renting I chose not to have that particular service done at this time. (I'm not going to pay to upgrade somebody else's home) I would definitely recommend them to anyone in the NOVA area and appreciate the great service on short notice. read more

What can I say about German and his co-workers. He/they were absolutely awesome. German saved the day for my family on two different occasions. The 1st time, my daughter had just had a baby and my outside air conditioning unit blew. I had no home owners maintenance warranty and could not afford the cost to replace the outside unit. German came to my home in less than a days notice and did his majic. My unit was old, but he was able to repair the unit. This repair lasted for a very very very long time. The 2nd occasion, my furnace stopped working. Again, I had no home owners warranty, but this time a bandaid would not do the trick. German worked with me to get a price that I could afford. He replaced my furnace and even went so far as to make sure the outdoor unit was still working correctly. He also followed up with me to ensure everything was working.
