My wife and I completed our custom home with CLB Custom Homes in November 2025 and have lived in our 3,800-square-foot home in a water-oriented community in Hampstead, NC, for more than six months. Chris and his family were wonderful to work with, and we truly love the home we built together.
We first met Chris while he was finishing another home in our neighborhood. After talking with several other local builders, the choice was easy. This was my third custom home (plus several major renovations), so I know what separates a good builder from a great one.
The design process was seamless. We couldn't find a stock plan that worked, so Chris and Angela combined ideas from several plans with a front elevation we loved. Angela designed a home that fit us perfectly, and we made almost no changes once construction started--which helped control costs.
I developed real trust in Chris during the build. I'm detail-oriented and don't accept excuses, yet he consistently caught and fixed issues with subcontractors before I noticed them. He holds his local trades to a high standard and, several times, had work torn out and redone that most builders would have accepted.
The project stayed on schedule and was completed in less than a year. When Chris gave us a firm completion date months in advance, he delivered exactly as promised. Costs were transparent, and he helped us spend wisely without cutting corners.
The custom details create those "I'll be damned" moments: walnut beams in the living room, wood French doors leading into the art room, an office that feels like an old farmhouse attic, a standout primary suite, and an entryway that makes a memorable first impression.
Communication with Chris was straightforward and efficient. John and David handled the punch list well at the end. After closing, we dealt with a few vendors more directly than I would have preferred, but Chris always stepped in when needed. Our blind installer told us it was the most square and level home she'd ever worked in.
Looking back after six months, we'd build the same house with the same builder again, making only a few minor changes. Honesty, pride, and craftsmanship are hard to find--CLB has all three.
If you're considering CLB and have questions about our experience, I've told Chris he's welcome to share my contact information. The best endorsement I can offer is something my wife says almost every day: "I love our home." read more
