Our family recently lost our mother, and as the administrator of her trust, I used part of the inheritance to purchase a home for my sister through Clayton Homes in Evans, Colorado. As a real estate professional with over 20 years of experience and licensure in multiple states, I can say without hesitation that this was the most unprofessional and frustrating transaction I have ever encountered. Our sales representative and project manager, Justin Markwardt, initially promised that permit applications would be submitted in December 2024. In reality, they were not submitted until late February 2025. The home was to be placed on property in Adams County, which has a clear minimum square footage requirement. Justin failed to inform us that the home we selected and purchased was 60 square feet too small, which resulted in the permit being denied. Throughout the process, Justin was frequently unavailable--often "out of the office" due to personal matters or on vacation--and rarely responded to calls or emails. When I finally reached him to ask for his supervisor's information, he either could not or would not provide it. I eventually located Brent Barnard at another location, but his follow-up was equally poor. The solution offered to us was to purchase a larger, more expensive home to meet the county's requirements--adding thousands of dollars to the cost. Even after this change, I had to repeatedly and proactively follow up to ensure Justin submitted the updated permit application. At every step, he shifted blame to Adams County rather than taking responsibility for delays or oversights. When we first purchased, we were told the home would be completed by March 2025. This was a cash purchase, and every requested payment was made immediately. Despite repeated assurances that the home would be ready for move-in, we are still waiting for the final Certificate of Occupancy. The level of disorganization, lack of accountability, and disregard for customer service at this location is staggering. If you are considering working with Clayton Homes in Evans, Colorado--proceed with extreme caution or, better yet, avoid them entirely. read more

Dont buy from these guys. Worst choice in my life. Bunch of cheats and liars. House is full of cracks, they tried to cover it up with paint . Bad carpet and flooring. Plastic sinks. Piping under the house was all messed up. Cost a ton to get it fixed. Buy a mobile home from anyone but these people read more

We tried working with Clayton Homes in Evans, CO a couple of times and both times we were left hanging, frustrated and depleated. The first time was about 3 years ago and our salesman took all our information, made us promises and then NOTHING. Which brings us to this last month - we decided to try them again and met w/ Brittany for a couple of hours. We chose our home and she was going to contact "another builder" to copy the floorplan we liked, make some changes and add quite a bit. We were told that she would work the numbers and then get back with us. That was over a month ago and we still have not heard anything from her!!! When I called and spoke with one of the managers yesterday - all he kept saying was "I'm sorry". We STILL haven't heard from Brittany apologizing for dropping us and leaving us hanging. This company and ALL of their employees, including their managers apparently, are very unprofessional, very lazy, make promises they have no intention of keeping and they just don't care about their customers or potential customers. Bill kinda really sucked I am coming to buy a home and it was outside of the region they sell to I asked if I could see a few of the models that Clayton makes so I could get a good idea because I do not do well with just the floor plans on the website the moment he found out it was out of the area he didn't even want to show me even one home I had to twist his arm on it then he just kept telling me I can't help you I asked to see a single wife and said have a good day nice homes but bill sucks. Three months into buying process my wife and I are worn out. The "salesman" Jeremy never called to find out how things were going and never showed any interest in helping. He referred is to an equally unimpressive mortgage lender. THe home was great but the service was so poor that we are getting our deposit back. The entire problem could have been resolved with communication, Jeremy never initiated contact. Perhaps they need to learn the lesson, they are selling we are buying, earn or business we choose where to spend our money. read more

We visited the Denver and Evans locations and the sales people were very nice and helpful but the managers at the Evans location said they wouldn't work with is us because the area we want to build in had to many expensive homes and they didn't think the neighbors would like a modular in the area. I don't know how that is even their business and is an opinion not a valid reason to refuse our business. That definitely shine a light on how they feel about the quality of their own products. The websites are also confusing regarding what different locations offer, about what homes are in stock vs what you can actually buy that's pre-built/available to build, and hardly give any information about what they offer with the different floor plans. Also when we asked about different models and floor plans we were told that several of them were no longer available because they are no longer working with those manufacturers, or the manufacturers discontinued the floor plan so you don't know what is and isn't actually available even though it's on the website. Very confusing and inconsistent all the way around. read more

This is a horrible place to buy a home from and almost everybody I have encountered from there are all a bunch of liars I was told things that were not true from the beginning and now that I need warranty work done on things that they had promised they are not following through with, my shed sits still with unfinished wood not painted as promised for over a year and everything that I have requested is so-called not under warranty things like split boards on the outside of the house that are split completely in half bathtub inserts that are improperly cut in and ripped and then just covered with caulking Outlets that when you go to plug something in the wall just push right in and fall through the wall none of that is covered under their warranty worst of all I have discovered after only one year in my home that the dishwasher had been poorly assembled and pipes and fittings not done correctly which has led to my dishwasher leaking for who knows how long.The floor underneath the dishwasher and the wall and half of the outer wall are all damaged molded warped soaked with water that has been leaking into there for quite some time and they will not help me with any of it . Due to the poor leveling of the home the water ran backwards so I was not able to tell there was a leak until a lot of things were ruined I paid extra for warranties and extra home buyer protection and homeowners insurance and Appliance warranties and was told everything was taken care of only to find out now that no I was the one that had to register all of the appliances and mail them all in myself but I was reassured that that was all taken care of and everything was covered for an additional five years only to learn now that it's not covered because I did not know I had to send in a registration although Clayton took my money to pay for those warranties. I was told more than once by more than one person that I need not do anything other than pay the money for my things to be covered. Stacy in the warranty repair department is the most rude unprofessional uncaring person I have ever encountered and is doing nothing but bringing that company down further. As a single mom I 100% regret my purchase through Clayton Homes as this is my third modular manufactured home I have purchased but the first through Clayton and absolutely the worst in every way. Do not let these guys sweet-talk or lie to you they are unprofessional and do not keep their word go anywhere else but here. This is the Evan's Colorado location. read more

I recently had an experience with Clayton homes and was not all that impressed with the customer service skills of Tony in the Evans office. He is rude and condescending and really should work on his people skills. Clayton homes itself is not a bad place to buy and even Mike the manager at that location is a very nice person. But tony needs to work on his customer service skills. So if you're going there, do not work with him because he's just going to make you feel stupid by talking down to you. read more
