SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU ARE OK WITH THEM VAPING IN YOUR CAR. My husband took our car for a complete vehicle inspection yesterday. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!! They told him he could drop the car off at 8am and it would be ready by noon. Perfect since my husband had to leave for work at 3:30 and it's our only car. He was told they have shuttle service which is also perfect since again, it's our only car. The car gets dropped off at 8am.... Shuttle doesn't start till 8:30. Ok, fine... my husband takes the bus home we live less than 10 minutes away. Noontime comes and goes, no word about our car. My husband calls and was told they were test driving it and they will call back in a few minutes. Hours pass, 2pm comes around, NO CALL!! My husband calls back and was told the car was done and my husband says he needs the shuttle to come pick him up. They said they were on their way. AN HOUR LATER STILL NO SHUTTLE OR CALL. My husband calls back and was told the car needs a valve to be replaced and the shuttle driver is leaving now. **I thought they were already on their way?** A half hour later still no shuttle so my husband calls yet again... he was told that the shuttle driver didn't see anyone outside so he left. WTF?? There was no shuttle and even if he was there, who leaves without calling and letting people know they are outside?!?!?? My husband now late to get to work, FINALLY gets picked up and gets our car, it is now 4PM!!! While driving, he smells a bad, strong odor in the car and can't tell what it is or where it's coming from. Neither of us smoke at all. I'm asthmatic and highly allergic. My husband gets to work and starts searching around. On our front console he finds (he had to ask a co worker, cause WE DONT SMOKE) A FRICKEN VAPE PEN!!! (Pictures Below) Was our car even looked at? Did they just take it for a joy ride smoking/vaping in OUR CAR?? We are FURIOUS!! Who does that?? THIS IS BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISRESPECTFUL. If we could give negative stars, we could. I went in to have my alternator replaced an fix oil leaks. An then I had some major crank shaft oil leaking issues that turned into a serious problem. But they stood by me an even paid for a rental car to get me thru. Everything was great when I picked it up. But in a few days my radiator blew. Took it back an they fixed it with no charge! I took truck into Clay's auto a couple of months ago because I was having voltage problems, 4 plus hours later and cleaning batteries, still didn't fix problem. While driving home the main fuse blew out completely. Spending $4 for new fuse and 5 minutes of labor fixed the problem. They charged me $450 for cleaning batteries. I did however pay $350 to them and thought they would atleast give a partial refund or something. I call and to them what problem was and thought I should be credited the balance but she had an attitude and the break line mount was bent and wound up destroying rotor and caliper. I wound up taking it back to where I had all of the breaks done and was charged less than half to fix there problem. Do I think they should be responsible for repair bill, yes. I gave them the chance to make things right and wanted to charge me over $700. Told them I would pick up and was still charged $78 for nothing. Will never take my vehicles there again. I used to be a mechanic in my younger years and test places to see if they are out to rip people off,especially in a time where people don't have deep pockets to pay a lifestyle of a millionaire. read more

I brought my car here because of an evaporative system code that my normal mechanic couldn't pin down. I thought that a full-fledged garage would provide the expertise that I needed to track this error down. What a fool I was. Beth was incredibly nice the entire time, and given how frustrated I was at this problem, I agreed to an up-front diagnostic fee. A few hours later, they thought they found the source of the issue, and $150 later, I drove my car off. Not even an eight of a mile later, my battery was completely dead and my driver's side window--which was conveniently rolled down upon pickup--was out of its track and jammed in the door panel. I called Clay's, and they picked up the car for further work. The next day, I picked up my car again, to find that I was being charged for the suddenly-dead battery and the window being placed back on its track. I read bad reviews of this place before, but I saw why they merit each and every one of them. Oh, and the problem still isn't resolved. I can tell you where I'm NOT going for further assistance. I recently went here because my check engine light came on. Prior, I took the car to Autozone to have the code read and realized the throttle body needed cleaning. I didn't want to bother with cleaning it myself although there are plenty of YouTube videos on how to. On the recommendation of a friend, I brought my car here because I was told the prices were fair. They charged my $135 to diagnose my issue. (Please note, most dealerships only charge $75 to diagnose) Even worse, they reached the same conclusion...dirty throttle body. To clean the throttle body, once again something I could've done myself, they charged $129. I was okay with paying this amount for the convenience of not doing myself. I needed a tire patch, and they charged a reasonable $20 for this. I also asked for my license plates to be mounted. Without my consent, they charged me $19. Once again another rip-off. I could've done this myself or taken it to any dealership and had it done for free. On top of this, they tried to charge me $17 to replace the license plate bulb. I politely declined. The bulbs are $3 and I know how to use a screw driver. The people are nice, and they offer free shuttle. But unfortunately it was way overpriced for the amount of work I had done. For this reason, I will never return here for service of a vehicle. read more

I heard about Clay's Auto from a friend who was just raving at how lucky she was to have finally found a reliable auto shop. From the moment I called to schedule an appointment, to the diagnosis test drive, to the repair and report on our company's work van, we had consistently received great customer service. We needed the van back right away (next day) to complete a project and they worked quickly to get it back to us as soon as possible. They reported what parts were in bad condition, replaced it at a fair price, and let us know that if the check engine light turned back on, to bring it back again. The van sounds great and is driving much better. Overall a great experience. The owner, Clay, was the one who conducted the test drive and he was knowledgable and very easy to talk to. I will always have respect for an owner who contributes this kind of time and dedication to his own company. read more

Go to Clays Auto Service if you want to pay more than the dealership. I had my vehicle towed to Clays after the fuel pump went out. I have usually gone to the dealership for repairs but my vehicle is getting a little old so I decided to try a local shop and called Clays. I was told on the phone that I would need to agree to a diagnostic charge of between $65 and $125. This is understandable. I was also told that unless they had to do significant work to find the problem then the diagnostic amount would be included in the price of the repair. WRONG. They charged me $145 for what Patrick called, "a simple diagnostic" test. He said the amount was for the time spent doing the test. My invoice states, "Technician connected vehicle to diagnostics scanner while trying to start the vehicle. Found low fuel pressure." This test takes about 10 minutes so I guess their diagnostic shop rate is about $870 per hour. I asked Patrick if he would take the $145.00 charge off due to what I was told and he very politely said no. He reduced it to $125.00 because of what I was told on the phone. Clays charged me $405.91 for the fuel pump assembly. The dealership charges $361.00 and NAPA has the OEM part for $236.00 retail. Clays get's their parts from NAPA at a 40% discount so they charged me way more than even the dealership would have charged. Because I had my car towed there, I wasn't in a position that I could negotiate or try to get a reasonable price for this straight forward repair. Just under $1000.00 for a fuel pump is the highest price I could have found. I could have had it done at the dealership for $169.91 less! If you go to Clays, they are very polite. Be prepared to spend more than at the dealership, be misled on the phone, and don't think you will ever see a diagnostic charge under $125.00. read more

3 times more expensive than any other place - to the tune of ~ $300 more total. Parts were $200 more by itself - they said they used OEM parts, and after they could not produce receipts - I looked all over the interwebs and could not find any OEM parts that were comparably priced (it was all ~$200 cheaper!). I suppose they use a extremely expensive supplier! I was not paying attention because of a hectic schedule and so I was paid. It happens I suppose - their work is great though and they are nice folks but extremely expensive (at least for me). They also had extra charges when I went to pay the bill and pick up the car, but then adjusted them when I pointed it out. I suppose it happens to the best of us! I scheduled an appointment to diagnose the suspension on my 2000 Ford F350 Powerstroke crew cab. Prior to scheduling the appointment I asked if they could perform the repairs considering the size of the truck. They assured me they could, so I dropped the car off at 9:00. They said, "It should not take long and should be ready before noon". A little after 3:00 pm they informed me that they could not do the repairs because it required a special tool and it must be repaired at the dealer. I searched you-tube and learned that the special tool is readily available for around $70. It seems that if Clays Auto Service was capable of repairing my truck they could pony up $70 for the special tool. As it turned out, they wasted my entire day without my truck, plus the inconvenience of having to get to and from their shop. I won't go there again. read more

Get Quotes before you let them fix your Car. They quoted us $448 to repair a power steering return hose. We ended up towing it from them 2.5 miles to the car dealership and had it fixed for $230. Clay's Auto Service not was almost doubling out cost but they were not going to have our car back until Monday evening or Tuesday. We dropped the car off on Thursday. They are closed on the weekends ( the dealer service is open). After pulling our car from Clay's. Our car was fixed and back in our hands less then 24 hours from dropping it off. These guys charge for an estimate. The first time I went in they charged me $60 to diagnose a coolant leak. I was ok with it and ended up letting them fix my vehicle as they were nice enough to shuttle me to work. The next time I went in they wanted $120 for an estimate and this was for a ticking sound coming from one of my tires. This fee doesn't apply towards the labor - it is separate. And was excessive. When I confronted them with the previous fee and asked why the difference, they had nothing to say. Both times I felt like I was getting screwed, but at least with the latter I was smart enough to walk away. Don't take your car here - these guys are lame. read more

I am not a knowledgeable "car person." I need to be able to trust my mechanic because I don't know any better about servicing on my own. I've taken my mid-'90s Honda Civic into Clay's a few times. The first, over a year ago, was for routine work, and they provided me with a helpful list of things I might want to consider looking at soon, including my brake pads, which were down to 5%, they said. The second time, I went in because the window motors in both doors were failing, with the driver side being a bit worse than the passenger. I paid either $500 or $700 some weeks ago to get the driver's side motor replaced, which allegedly entailed taking the door apart and a fair bit of labor. They also replaced my radiator hoses, which were cracked and leaking. This resulted in the car overheating, of course. Most recently, I went in a couple weeks ago. Again, the car was overheating, and it was so soon since the last service that I wondered if they'd flubbed the job somehow. But no, they said. I'd developed a cracked head gasket -- a significant repair that would total over $1,700 in parts and labor. I didn't have $1,700, and, nervous as could be, I got the car home and parked it in front. A few days ago, a friend of a friend looked at the Civic. He worked for a prominent Honda dealership for 17 years. He listened to my descriptions, had me turn the car on for a couple of minutes, read over Clay's estimate, and scratched his head. "This doesn't make any sense," he said. "If you had a cracked head gasket, you'd be seeing white smoke come out the back. And the reason why you're overheating is this." He pointed to my radiator, from which he'd removed the cap. The radiator was dry as a bone. He said that it's common to need to "burp" cars after the last sort of service I'd done. Most likely, there had been an air bubble in the system. When the bubble popped, fluid drained down to fill the gap, emptying the radiator. We poured some water in, and I proceeded to drive the car around with ZERO PROBLEMS for the next two weeks. The temp gauge never even gets to half-way. "Oh," he added. "And you don't need a new window motor. See here how the old rubber seals are pinching the window when it goes up and down. I'll spray a little silicone on that, and it'll be just fine. No charge." He was right. And those brakes that were at 5% a year ago? I haven't heard a so much as a squeak, and I've never touched them. Now, I can't verify that there wasn't a bona fide problem in the driver's side window motor, but given the coincidental timing and everything else, I am HIGHLY skeptical. It is impossible for me not to think that Clay's is either grossly incompetent or engaging in some of the worst bilking I've ever seen from a local company. Either way, it goes without saying that I will never, ever take a car to them again. Note: I added one star back because the place is clean, the staff has always been polite to me, and I really, really hate saying anything bad about a business that is dog-friendly. read more

My Oil indicator light came on just before Memorial Day Weekend. I called Clay's first thing on Tuesday morning, brought the car in and had it back to me before lunch. The oil was low and they did a check to make sure everthing else was ok. This is a 2011 Subaru Outback. I took my car to Clay's Auto last November because of a broken cv boot. They told me that they couldn't just replace the cv boot, they had to replace the whole front axle, which cost quite a lot of money. While my car was in their shop having the work done, they also gave me a list of things that needed to be done on my car and each item had a very hefty price tag. One of the things they told me was that I needed a brake job including replacing the rear brake pads, resurfacing rotors and bleeding the brake system. They wrote it down for me. They said I should have it done as soon as possible because it might not be safe. They also said I needed new tires. I waited until now to take care of these things because I didn't have the money until I got my tax refund. This week, I called another auto shop, at the recommendation of a friend, D & M Automotive. Since they were cheaper and I was impressed with the guy I talked with there, I took my car to them for a rear brake job. While I was sitting at the coffee shop next door, I got a call from Dave at D & M telling me that I didn't need a brake job, my brakes had 10-20K miles left on them, depending on my driving! He also told me that I don't have disc brakes, so it would have been brake pads and shoes, nothing to do with resurfacing rotors! I was grateful that I didn't need brakes and grateful that I took my car to D & M and not Clay's Auto! I then drove to Les Schwab to have them put new tires on and they checked my tires and told me I didn't need new tires yet and to bring the car back in 4-6 months and they'd check the tires again for me! Clay's Auto is definitely not a business I would recommend! They're expensive and either they don't know what they're doing or worse - could be they're dishonest in their dealings! read more

Everytime I visited them, they have charged me a lot for initial diagonsis and provided me with a solution that costed a lot. Other repair services has provide me a lot less cost options and free diagonsis most of the time. Most were diagonsis visually from other services. They have provide me options for repair when there was no need for the repair. I will not suggest to anyone. One good thing is that they provide ride to/from work. read more

Here's my honest review of them: -Convenient: They have a shuttle service that can take you to/from work. -EXPENSIVE: I knew exactly what was wrong with my car. Most of that was for labor because they said it was in "a hard to reach location." This was total bs. The sensor is right on top near the air filter and easily accessible and replaced by removing 2 screws. Went to the auto parts shop and bought the part for $100 and put it in myself. Took 10 minutes. I came here because it was close since my window was stuck down after filling up with gas, what I didn't know is that I would be totally taken advantage of by this place. Another words, I was screwed due to the rain and a window stuck in the down position, and I got really screwed with the price they charged me to repair the window switch. A $50 part, and what would have taken 15 minutes to replace, I was first quoted $314 (choke, choke, choke), then when they called to let me know it was done two and a half hours later the price was dropped to $277 (cough, cough) due to some "rebates I used for parts". Then 20 minutes later when I went in the price dropped once more to $267, still $100 more than I should have paid a professional garage to repair. They also did a reset on the computer because the check engine light was on for a transmission code. I inquired if the car could pass inspection with the light on, I was told no, they asked if there were any indications of problems with the transmission, I told them no, and they said they could do a reset but the light might come back on. Worth a try right? Well, now my car cannot even be tested because the computer after driving more than 200 miles over a period of 4 days, then they try to say there must be something wrong with it.
