Very good food especially for the price. Had twin lobsters this afternoon for only $20. Food was very fresh and tasted terrific. The owners who actually run the place , actually care about the food and their customer service. There always is a little bit of a line, but you would expect that from a good restaurant that is very busy. Their food is extremely good and their prices are very competitive. I am sad to give a one-star review to any restaurant right now, much less to one that I had a GREAT experience at a few months ago. But, I think it's important to share. My 80-year old mom lives in Rockland, is from Maine, and LOVES seafood, more than the average person. She loves lobster even more. A few months ago I went up to visit her, and we each got the Tidal Trio salad and an order of onion strings to share, and it was Amazing. We talked about it for days after. Delicious, fresh, plentiful. I even went back and got a chowder and salad on another night, and it was also super good. My mom went back a few days ago, with a friend. They took a cab there because they don't drive, and both use walkers. It was busy of course, 11:45 on a nice early September day. My mom ordered the Tidal Trio - they said they were out of crabmeat, but would put extra lobster and shrimp. Her friend ordered a fish sandwich and fries, and got them within about 10 minutes. My mom nibbled on fries and patiently waited. After a half hour, the server came out with her salad - some shrimp salad on the plate, and then several tiny claws -didn't even look like lobster, and the they were cold as if they were still defrosting, served plain, and were flavorless. She asked about it, and they said this is just how they're doing it now, and were pretty dismissive. My mom decided to pick at the meal, and had some fries, but was pretty disappointed, especially at a price tag of almost $40 for her meal of a Not-Tidal Trio Salad, fries and soda. Plus a $9 cab ride. The icing on this sad cake is that when she went to register a final respectful complaint with the counter at the end, they were rude and couldn't be bothered, and glared at my mom and her friend as they made their way in their walkers back to the cab. I'm sorry but this is just totally unacceptable. Even if they were having a bad day, didn't expect to run out of crabmeat, and were tired of serving people.... You can still be kind and show a little extra care for the people who make your business run. It matters. read more

Thanks to my friends on Yelp, found this great little spot during a day trip to Rockland. We were so happy when we pulled in. Cute deck with a view, immaculate shaded picnic tables, nice selection of wine & beer, a menu that accommodate everyone. We started with clam dip and a Red Claw Ale, perfect combo. Then on to the Maine event, the lobster roll is delicious, full of fresh, well-picked meat, a little mayo and a perfectly toasted bun. Service is gracious and accommodating. There are a bunch of places making lobster rolls along Route 1 in the midcoast area, and many are quite good, but Claws is the best I've had. Overall the place is great, with a fantastic porch-side atmosphere and a great lobster prep. Context: I went here one other person, looking specifically for a lobster dinner. Service: This is a "window-side" order establishment. The person taking my order was friendly and helped explain the size differences for different lobster weights. (Bigger is better!) The orders are served on trays, so there's not much to speak of in terms of service... Decor: It's a porch on the side of the road. It's not very "special" but there is an zippable-enclosed area and heaters to prevent against the elements. Even though it is roadside, you don't feel like you're roadside. The floors are clean and the tables are new, or kept in a really good condition. Food: Woah. Really great. I got a 2lb+ lobster meal which came with all the standard fixins (full cob of corn, melted butter, coleslaw). It was nice and fresh and perfectly prepared. Price: Reasonable. Bathroom Grade: B-. A couple of decorations made it feel homey. Otherwise, nothing special. It's exposed to the elements, because, again, it's an outdoor eatery. Miscellaneous: The view on the water is very nice. We are locals and have been here several times. Food has been decent in the past. This is a takeout type establishment, and when you pay at the window there is an option to tip on the card. Unfortunately we learned tonight that if you don't put the tip on the card and tip in cash at the end instead, they burn your food and give you zero service. The waitress was clearly serving everyone else around us, but not us. And layed the food on our table with a "there's that", and nothing else the rest of our dining experience. Was passing by Rockand on a business trip. After getting the same response from locals on what's the best place for a lobster roll, I headed straight to Claws. While the lobster roll was really good, the lobster mac n cheese was phenomenal! It's not your standard Mac n cheese. It resembled more of a gourmet style pasta dish using ziti like noodles. Big chunks of lobster and and cheese sauce that was out of this world. Hands down the best lobster mac and cheese I've had. A must try! Yep. This is great one! One of two favorites for our trip so far in Maine. I love how organized this stand was and all of the food options would please anyone who might not be a lobster fan. Enclosed seating, very well stocked condiment bar, beer and wine available. So about this lobster roll. OMG packed with buttery, sweet deliciousness. The coleslaw has the right amount of dressing with golden raisins as a plus. The lobster bisque is absolutely delicious with wonderful flavor and a creamy, buttery stock. Ordered two lobster dinners to go. One was cooked the other was under cooked and needed to be cooked further once home. The process of calling in an order and picking it up was not organized. After I paid I was told to wait around the other side and my order would be out shortly. This was fine as I was a bit early picking up the order, but when my name was called I was told I needed to pay again. I said I had already paid when I first arrived. They said they had no record of that payment. Luckily my receipt was in my pocket to prove I had already paid and I showed them the pending payment on my banking app. This place needs better organization. Small parking and even smaller seating available. Will not be going back. Many other places around to get a better cooked lobster and with out the hassle of a disorganized kitchen. read more

I hadn't noticed Claws until a few days ago when a friend and I were drawn in by the outdoor seating and harbor views. The menu is pretty large for the take out/seafood shack vibe they're seemingly going for. We had a hard time choosing so we asked if they could do a basket with a half order of the haddock and a half order of the shrimp... Definitely figured they'd say no but the woman taking our order didn't hesitate to accommodate. SUCH a good choice. The portions are actually massive, best fries I've had in the midcoast, their tartar sauce is killer (tasted homemade?), the fried stuff wasn't overly greasy and everyone was helpful... Deceiving at first glance! This place is delicious!!! I HIGHLY recommend the strawberry rhubarb salmon and drunken mussels! The blueberry habanero sauce on the table is also delicious. They really know what they are doing. The place is well run. The bathrooms are amazing... they have so many supplies that you may need in there. I always appreciate a nice bathroom.
