The lobster roll was one of the best I've had, but I got the impression "market price" varies from customer to customer. For me it was $42 for the smaller version and a 22 oz draft beer. No chips with that either, despite the menu saying it came with them. The lobster roll and beer (Baxter blueberry ale) were worth splurging, but I might have bought the larger lobster roll if I knew ahead of time what the price was. Why the secrecy? read more

Favorite Lobster in Maine :) if your courageous order the 2.5 lobster roll and eat it solo! Firecracker shrimp are solid too!!

When in Rome do as the Romans. When in Maine do as the Maine-anders. (is that right?). Anyways....Maine is obviously renown for having some of the worlds best lobsters. So how can you go to Maine and not eat what is toasted as being among the best lobster in the world? Enter Claws of Rockland, ME. Nestled against the road and the ocean in a seemingly shanty like shrimp stand is serving up quite possibly the best lobster roll to exist on this planet. Seriously. Straight up....awesome. Don't ruin it with lettuce or tomato. If you like lobster order the tried and true original. Their lightly toasted/buttered roll is the perfect base for what is an insane amount of lobster. The lobster is chilled just right. It has the perfect light cover of mayo that lobster of caliber deserves. And did I say it is a good amount of lobster?.....because it is. My girlfriend is from Maine and she knows her lobster rolls and this place had her sold from the first bite. So sold that we went there twice while on a week long vacation. I can't speak for the rest of the food but their lobster rolls have won me over for sure! read more

Claws - The "lobsta" roll - Seafood Near Me - Rockland, Maine

Good location, beautiful view and tasty food. Only thing is fried oyster portion is small for the price

The service is great. Wait staff are super friendly. The outside dining over looking the water is really phenomenal. The inside tables and chairs are okay but not that comfortable. The regular lobster roll was huge and full of delicious claw meat. However by the time I got it the bottom was all soggy. The truffle fries were also good but way too salty. The lobster bisque was not that good. It was super salty and had no lobster in it. The chunks of tomato were also not tasty. I am hoping it's better other days but certainly missed the "best of" in my book the day I went. My hubby got the chicken tacos and was happy with them. In my opinion I have had better lobster rolls and lobster bisque in New England . But it could have been a lot worse and the lobster roll price was on point and I did like the amount of meat and it was fresh. I wouldn't get it again but I wouldn't deter others. read more

When I read Alexandra S.'s August review for Claws I bookmarked it for our trip to Maine this month. We'd had lobster rolls at Red's Eats driving from Ogunquit to Rockport on Saturday, so yesterday was not a day for lobster. Today, however, was different. There was no line, a stark contrast to Red's, where the line was an hour long, at least. The difference between Saturday and Monday. They also take credit cards here. Red's is cash or check. You order at one window and pick up at another. A numbered lobster is given to you and when your number is called you pick up the order. Parking is in the lot to the south of the restaurant. The parking lot to the north belongs to the steel company and according to the note on Claws' door, they tow quickly. When I read about the Tidal Trio salad I knew I had to have it. Separate scoops of lobster, crab and shrimps lightly dressed in mayonnaise rested atop a salad of spring mix lettuce, shredded carrots, plum tomatoes, sliced bell pepper, sugar snap peas, radishes and thinly sliced red onions. Alan ordered a haddock sandwich and added coleslaw. We shared clam fritters. I had hot tea to drink and Alan had water. The seating is either picnic tables w/ attached benches or high stools at a counter. We started at a picnic table then decided to move to one of the high seats overlooking the harbor. When our number was called I went to get our tray. We started w/ the clam fritters. We have found clam fritters to be more fritter than clams. That was our experience when we first tasted them w/ Brian and Cindy in Rhode Island a couple of years ago and that was the case today. They were good dipped in tartar sauce, but ultimately disappointingly light on clams and I think that's the way they're made. My salad, on the other hand, was excellent. The crab and lobster were my favorites. The shrimp were a bit salty, so I left them to mix in w/ the lettuces and other vegetables. I'm not sure what kind of dressing I had because I didn't specify, but it was good. The salad was very tasty and made for a great lunch. Alan was very pleased w/ his haddock sandwich and his coleslaw. They gave me a bag of potato chips which went w/ his sandwich but he didn't want it, so I gave it back to them when we finished. There were plenty of other people eating there today, but never a line. read more

Ordered a lobster roll and a haddock sandwich with a side of cole slaw. Bill came to $49+....ouch!!! Should have asked what the lobster roll would cost before ordering! Food was ok, my wife liked the haddock. Expect long lines around noon and dinner time. read more

Amazing service and great rolls! The view doesn't hurt either!

We had great experience at Claws. We ordered lobster dinner and lobster taste very fresh.

Love the ambiance of this place and the employees were so friendly! We ordered bacon wrapped scallops, they were cooked perfectly, the bacon is one single piece skewered between the scallops, so it was a pain to tear pieces of bacon to get a bite with the scallop, large fries which were the thick steak fries (yum yum yum), crab cake was crispy on the outside with a delicious tarter sauce on the side and shrimp cocktail which was a bit disappointing. The shrimp were small for a shrimp cocktail, but the cocktail sauce was good. Had a nice view and we were surrounded by lots of happy customers. We'll definitely go back to try more items! read more

My wife and I were in the area shopping and decided to stop some place for lunch. I pulled out my trusty Yelp app and found Claws. We saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try. Claws is a roadside takeout restaurant with outside seating (see pics). The seats towards the back have a nice water view. The menu is good size and they have about four beers on tap. I ordered the fried clam basket and my wife ordered the Rockland's Finest, lobster roll served warm with melted butter. You can also have it prepared with mayonnaise if you want. Let me first say that I have had fried clams in many places in Maine and Canada so my bar is high. To start with, these clams were nice and big, and at first site I couldn't wait to dig in and eat these. Unfortunately, that's where the positives stopped for me. The breading was heavy, and fell off the clam. It didn't hold up to the clam and gave it an almost soggy consistency. The cole slaw and fries were just ok for me, not bad but nothing that stands out. I really enjoyed their tartar sauce. It didn't taste store bought but I can't say for sure it was homemade. My wife didn't really enjoy her lobster roll. The butter on the lobster had gone to the bottom of the roll causing it to soak the roll and it fell apart as she ate it. It seemed that there was way to much butter on the lobster. The roll should hold up to the lobster so you can pick it up and eat it. On a positive note, the lobster was fresh and delicious. Sorry fellow elites, I have to give Claws an, Eh, I've had better. Hopefully we can get back to Claws and try something different next time. read more

The delivery website didn't work. They answered their phone on our third try. We ordered lobster Mac, lobster shortcake, the red white and blue salad, blueberry lemonade, and iced tea. The lobster Mac was huge and had a fair amount of lobster. The lobster shortcake had no lobster. Zero. Presumably they forgot. Disappointing for $24. The red white and blue salad was very nice with very fresh greens and all of the advertised ingredients. Really a great salad. The blueberry lemonade was nice, but you need to like smashed blueberries in your lemonade. I liked it. My wife thought I looked weird with blueberries in my teeth. The iced tea was iced tea. This would have been a 4 star review if the $24 lobster shortcake had included even a little bit of lobster. read more

This place is doing things right!! Hands down, best lobster roll I've ever had. We also ordered 3 Maine Dinners, lobsters were so fresh and delicious. Fried clams ans lobster rolls are out of this world! The rolls had about 1.5 lobsters worth of meat inside! Fried seafood still retained its flavor without being dried out. Claws - Enormous lobstah roll and more than a pint of fried clams - Seafood Near Me - Rockland, Maine

Okay so the lobsters are DELISH. The atmosphere is casual with covered and uncovered pick nick tables over looking an ok part of the harbor. HOWEVER, the clams were completely unclean, they were sandy and still had the neck attached ! Seriously disgusting and inedible, Idk If it's a Maine thing or what but it was gross. Also they charge $3 to upgrade to a "loaded baked potato" which the cheese wasn't even melted..... read more

Bought the 1 1/2# lobster with the coleslaw, chips, and corn. Claws' soft-shell lobster had less meat and it lacked flavor. I actually had to use the butter here. The hard-shell lobster I tried a couple days earlier was very good without butter. The novelty of eating fresh Maine lobster wore off after this meal. It's just too little food for ~$26. I left hungry. The advertised price for fresh soft shell lobsters was ~$4/lb in the Acadia area. I'm not a lobster market expert, but I just don't think this is a good value. They should have french fries or a biscuit instead of the travel size chip bag. The person who took my order was friendly. They sold cute souvenirs and decorate with a fun lobster/fishing theme. The dining area is picnic tables and the view is of a pier and some industrial buildings. If I ever return to the area, I might try a non lobster item. read more

This place was just ok. We realized that after we visited other lobster shacks in the area, which were beyond our expectations. Something that was seriously off-putting was when we called our order in. The woman asked us if we'd like to leave a gratuity tip. How could you ask a customer that especially if you are not even serving them the food? (We had a pickup order) What on Earth is the gratuity for then? I'd rather go someplace else next time. read more

Folksy but don't be fooled. The service here is terrible. Imagine waiting on line for 45 minutes and then waiting another 45 for your food. These guys don't know how to run a business. It's deceptive because their menu is appealing but don't don't don't be deceived. By the way, their lobsta roll is weak, their blueberry lemonade is ehhhh, their clams are tasteless. But if you like paying a lot to wait for your food, go here. McCloons, less than 10 miles away, takes a dump on this shack. read more

Lobster looked great but we choose poorly with the Lobster Mac and Cheese. We would go back for the lobster.

So, I was really excited for this place. And while it's a cute place with fun sauce bars and bathroom decor, I was a little disappointed. :/ First, I ordered the Down East Feast, which was $44 at the time. The lobster was good but one claw was thrown on the tray, detached. And the meat in that entire claw tasted undercooked and floppy. I've never spit out lobster claw, but I did that time. The rest of the lobster was fine, so I don't know where that claw came from. Also, I only realized it back in the car, but they totally forgot my clam chowder! I mean it wasn't a huge deal, but for a $44 feast you'd think they'd be more on the ball. Not surprisingly, they also forgot my daughter's applesauce and I had to ask for it. The workers were more than pleasant and sweet about it (and probably would have been if I remembered my missing chowder), but they clearly aren't organized. So check your order! Looking at past reviews from a month to a year ago, it looks like missing items happen randomly. The steamers were "ok" but not as stellar as they make them sound. Many of the shells were cracked and they just didn't look as good or clean as some I've had in the Rockland area in years past. Lastly, the corn that came with the feast was a tough, inedible cob. Not tender or tasty at all. I was pretty disappointed and felt like I got roped into a tourist lobster trap! PS in response to their reply: I've been going to Maine for 30+ years and have had both soft shell and hard shell lobsters. Again, I've never had a claw that was floppy and undercooked. I do not fault the hard working kids; however if someone pays for a $44 feast dish, someone should be providing oversight that everything is included. The wait was so long between order and food and I was so hungry, I didn't think of what should have been on my tray. Yes, I'd notice if the big ticket items were missing but since I didn't really miss the chowder, I'd say skip the expensive feast and get what is really important at lower prices. Or try another spot. The hype and cuteness is good for one visit. Then visit someplace else like Shaw's Lobster Wharf in New Harbor, ME with a gorgeous view of the harbor as they pull in fresh lobster. Sprague's in Wiscasset has a $29 combo with 1 1/4 lb lobster, 1 lb of steamers, corn, cole slaw, and dinner roll. Or get the huge lobster roll also in Wiscasset at Red's Eats for $22 (price in early July). So you don't get the chowder and crab. But is that really worth the extra $15 here?? I don't think so. read more

Stopped here for lunch yesterday with our 8 year old grandson. We were their first customers of the day. Very helpful lady took our order at the window. Food was ready in about 10 minutes. Outside seating only. We took spots overlooking the harbor. My wife had the lazy lobster which is 1.5 lbs of lobster already picked from the shell and buttered. She also had corn on the cob and strawberry lemonade. I sampled the lobster and corn (I ordered my own lemonade) Both were very good. I had the crab cakes. Very thick and full of meat. Both were fried to perfection. They came with tarter sauce. My strawberry lemonade very good as well. Grandson ordered the lobster mac and cheese. He also had fries. The lobster mac and cheese was fantastic!!! We had the good fortune to get to visit with a very friendly and helpful local that even let us sample his fried clams. They were really really good. Overall great experience. Exceeded all of our expectations. read more

Let me say I ordered wayyyy too much for 2 people....lol...but all was worth it...Lobster mac with gigantic chunks of meats! Blended with creamy cheddar mac topped with ritz cracker crumbles in a pene pasta which was the right noodle for the job! Alone this is quite the portion - easily enough for one. Now onto the eyes bigger than our stomach portion...soup sampler... beyond flavorful!!!! and generous chunks in the clam chowder... smooth silky lobster bisque...whsew.. amazing.....and then you get a large yummy crabcake to boot!!!. buttt..again *warning* 2 macs + soup sampler all is more than 2 can eat!...should've gotten 1 lob mac and 1 soup sampler for us to share. Now that I know what I know, I would choose the soups n crabbycake sampler over the lobster mac! ... I would want to also try their full lobster dinner which sounds like their flagship meal.... (which I should have tried... but then i wouldnt have ate the soup n crabcake....which is a slam dunk...ohhh choices!...lol) read more

Solid lobster roll. Big chunks of lightly seasoned lobster. Good portion for the price. I recommend getting two lobster rolls per person, which sets you back around $34, but you will certainly be full afterwards. Has a huge variety of sauces too, but you really should not be spoiling the taste of lobster. The one downside: no running water. Porta a potty. read more
