Our waitress was very sweet; she helpfully recommended the salmon to me after I skimmed the menu and asked for her opinion. The food took a while to come out, but I didn't mind; the yummy bread kept me busy. The salmon was delightful! A tuft of arugula sitting atop a poached egg, which after being cut, drools nicely onto the salmon below, all of which is sitting atop a fried potato pancake (I think a latke?). It was delicious and very light. The potato was my favorite; crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Fantastic brunch, and near the Louvre! FYI there is no a la carte brunch (except for the individual pastries) - you can only get these multi-course prix-fixe brunch meals. There were only 4 available the day I came, so a lot of the dishes I'd read about weren't available, and you can't mix and match courses (I couldn't have ordered the French Toast and the Benedict, unless I got two entire meals to myself). Although most of the guests seemed like tourists, there were still French speaking customers and this did not feel touristy. THE WAIT: We got here at 12:25pm, and it was about a 30-minute wait. THE SERVICE: Excellent, very accommodating to us with a stroller, and they spoke great English. THE COST: 75€ total for two brunch tastings and a couple extra pastries to go. Had an absolutely wonderful experience at Claus for Sunday Brunch! The menu is small, just like the portions - but don't let the size fool you, they are VERY filling! The pricing is moderate (~35€ per meal) which includes your choice of coffee/tea/cocoa, your choice of fresh squeezed juice, a bread/pastry starter (depends on your meal selection), and your main PLUS a dessert ! The food selections were eclectic but so so tasty. Of note - the weekend menu is different from their weekday menu. Where the meal selections were all that is available for the weekend, it seems you can order items a la carte like regular the rest of the week. Beautiful setting, airy, sophisticated and two stories restaurant is on a quiet street in Paris 1. We got there around 11:30 on a Tues and we were lucky we didn't have to wait and got the last table upstairs. They have a set breakfast and lunches or a la carte. We decided on a set breakfast. The portions are generous, so if you are not a big eater, you may waste a lot of food. It definitely was a lot for us. The baked goods are amazing and fresh, you can go overboard with the carb consumption!! The apricot jam was delicious and the match yogurt with raspberry purée topping was unique. Loved the yogurt parfait served with the fresh fruit. They have a nice selection of drinks, juices, teas and a great coffee. We had the detox juice, rooibos/vanilla tea and an espresso. All great choices. The service is great, the atmosphere is very bright and inviting, and they have a large selection of magazines to just linger on and read while you enjoy your meals. I was looking for a boutique place for brunch and I found this restaurant on Yelp. A few thoughts: 1) This place was very small. I waited for nearly an hour before I got a table. 2) Limited staff support when I was there. I sit on the second floor and there was only one server helping ~10 tables. A few people nearby my table complained about how slow it was to order foods. 3) My friend and I ordered a full cause brunch option and we took about 2.5 hours to finish. Mainly because the foods came slowly. At the end, our server proactively gave us free juices and breads to compensate for a long wait. Otherwise, foods were amazing! I was thinking about giving 3 out of five mainly because of the limited service. However, the foods were good and their staff proactively fixed the situation at the end. Claud was a recommended place from my tour guide and what a great place! Walked there from my apartment for breakfast one morning. Lovely space and relaxing atmosphere. The staff was very nice and kind. I enjoy a great cup of cappuccino and delicious mango yogurt. I couldn't leave without trying their famous Bavarian Pancake, which I make at home. This was our first Parisan meal that began our journey and it was a great start. I was a bit surprised to see this bakery/cafe not busy while it had so many reviews. On the main floor there was around 4 tables and upstairs had couple more tables with a bathroom that reminds you of an shell. The washroom caved in and got smaller and smaller and throughout the trip, I found out that Paris bathrooms were very economical. Here the server/host/dish cleaner... was an one man show minus the chefs in the back. He was excellent and felt very welcomed on our first meal. I ordered the chocolate croissant but ended up receiving a regular buttery croissant, which I didn't mind at all, with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Meal was perfect with the best smoked salmon! The most picturesque, chic, delightful boutique breakfast spot we found in Paris. Keep in mind that it is a popular spot, so arriving early is crucial. There is very limited space for dining, but I feel it helps the light and airy and very 'Parisian' atmosphere to flourish! Food was out of this world. Fresh flowers on each table was a sweet touch. I could live off of their croissants for the rest of my life. Delicious egg options, fresh squeezed juice, healthy smoothies, and pastries available to buy up front. After hearing good things about this place, I decided to add it on my list of places to try when I was visiting in Paris (Nov/17) and it has to be one of my favourite places I ate during my stay there. My initial plan was to have brunch prior to visiting the Musée du Louvre but there was such a long wait (people waited outside too!) so I opted to go there after the Louvre which was about 14:00 and didn't have to wait for a table. The restaurant opens at 8, and we came right when it opened to make sure we could get seating cuz it's such a popular restaurant. It's very authentic French breakfast. I ordered a set menu for 30E, and oh man it's a lot of food. There's 4 of us in total, and 2 of us ordered a big set menu, the other two ordered just regular plates. We thought it would be a right amount of food, but we still didn't end up finishing it. I liked the scrambled egg with shrimp very much. It's just the right degree of saltiness. Whereas the smoked salmon was a little too salty, and have to be eaten together with the bread. The assorted pastry had some really good food like the croissant, cinnamon roll and scone. But some of the other kind were not my favorite. The juice were very fresh and the tea was decent. The vitamin juice is pretty special, and OJ was good too. They also make different flavors of jam everyday and that was pretty cool. Overall I would say it's a pretty good dining experience. This is one cute place. My mom and I arrived and got a seat immediately - I think it was the last table in the restaurant. Several people came in afterwards and were told a waiting tine of at least 45 min. Like other people mentioned, you're best off to make reservations! The food was not bad but I'd say you're mainly paying to have a more "traditional" breakfast/brunch-style meal in Paris, which I don't think historically really existed (typically breakfast is some sort of sweet pastry and espresso to go). The breakfast sets come with a lot of food; my mom got an order of scrambled eggs and bacon, which also came with a side of juice, a bowl of yogurt and nuts and berries, and a basket of bread and jams. That sounded like a ton of food so we ended up sharing and I also got a soft boiled egg for extra protein. Breakfast paradise exists at Claus, the only (to my knowledge) epicerie/café in Paris devoted to the first meal of the day. A long-time friend of Claus (the person) I have been waiting on pins and needles for years for him to cut the ribbon on his eponymous café, and finally got the opportunity yesterday to test it out! While 100% objectivity is hard when you know and adore the person who has poured a zillion percent of himself into his project, I can say with 100% confidence that this place ROCKS!!! For one, the décor is amazing, kind of a cross between a modern Swiss chalet and an antique bakery, with original eBay finds scattered throughout like Napoleon era porcelain fruit baskets and chic crystal cake displays. The lighting installation and flooring on the ground floor are also amazing, so much so that I when I redesign my kitchen I plan on copying them verbatim. Bref, okay the design is awesome but that's not all! I hung out downstairs in the open café/epicerie part of the two-floor restaurant because it was ideal for socializing with stroller in tow. Watching the comings and goings of the clientele, asking about the various specialty foods on display, from sirop de liege and caviar to Christine Ferber artisanal jam, while enjoying my delicious café crème (made with Coutume coffee) and soft scrambled organic eggs with fresh herbs was the perfect way to spend a couple of hours of one's afternoon. I cannot wait to taste the rest of the delicious-sounding specialties on the menu, especially Claus' signature muesli that he learned to make in his native Germany, and what looks to be a pretty killer Club Sandwich! read more

My husband and I LOVED Claus. During our 5 day stay in Paris we ate here twice for brunch. Reservations are a must as Claus does tend to get very busy. Upon walking in we were greeted by Claus himself and were taken to the restaurant upstairs. The first floor includes items for take away such as various pastries and breads. Also, available to purchase are the organic homemade jams that are served with the bread basket (my husband and I bought 3 jars of jam to take home-- they're SO good). The menus come in both English and French. The menu offers preset meals which include coffee or tea, your choice of smoothie, a bread basket, several organic homemade jams, a main dish and a sweet treat at the end. In addition, the menu also offers a la carte items. I had the Le Louis II while my husband had the Le Vero-Dodat both of which were delish. My meal came with the Bavarian pancake-- highly recommended. Another thing that my husband and I loved was the attention to detail Claus had in decorating and displaying his pastries and breads and jams and muesli on the first floor-- everything is so aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Plus, the restaurant upstairs is so cute and cozy. This place is a MUST eat when in Paris. Oh. my. goodness. If you are intrigued by food presentation and are looking for a satisfyingly, cliché brunch spot in Paris (although it is a German restaurant?) - this is the place to visit. You take a few bites of your royal breakfast and your tastebuds are actually - not even kidding - experiencing tiny orgasms. Eg. the lemon cake is very citrusy but is complimented with the soft chia pudding, and crunchy pumpkin seeds!? SO good. From sweet to savory, they have mini patisserie with an array of options. Not even kidding, this place was outstanding. All five of my senses were in their happy place! The interior design was pleasing to the eye, it was cozy and kind of felt like a classic home. I loved the antique radio they had upstairs; softly played French music set a nice tone for the atmosphere. I also loved that there were small boutiques surrounding the restaurant, so you could take a stroll to shop after your meal. What feels better than buying a new pair of Louboutin's after brunch? This is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in Paris (and elsewhere!). I loved everything here. From the location (it's in the middle of town), the café itself (light, clean and classy), the staff (handsome and friendly!), the menu (sooo much options!) and the food itself of course (everything is delicious). We went to Claus on a weekday morning around 10.30, without a reservation and hoping there would be a spot left for us. Luckily there was and we were seated upstairs. The menu offers many dishes and choices for drinks, but also about 6-7 breakfast deals, which all include a hot drink and a juice and range in price between 15 euros and 30 euros. I choose a 26 euro menu which consisted of some things I had to try: Eggs of choice, bread basket with jam, muesli with nuts and fruit and a lemon drizzle cake. With this I could choose a hot drink (cappuccino) and a juice of choice (detox juice with different veggies). Everything was delicious. I had fries eggs and they were good. The bread was very nice and the jam and butter had just so much taste! The muesli was very delicious and the lemon drizzle cake was just too cute and delish. I also loved the juice and the cappuccino was also nice. Everything was perfect. I really recommend this place as one of the top breakfast/brunch places in Paris where you can taste some great food and relax have a great relaxing breakfast while starting your day the best way. read more

If you've been exploring The Louvre, I am pretty sure you're hungry after having to walk all around the outside snapping pics and checking out all the artwork inside (and fighting the crazy swarms of tourists trying to get a closeup glimpse of The Mona Lisa). Claus is a super cozy and charming little spot not too far away from The Louvre (just minutes away) and away from all those tourist trap restaurants. We came in during the early afternoon and there was only a couple other parties dining (all locals as well). We knew right away we had found a gem. The service was top notch and our server was extremely patient and friendly, giving us recommendations based on his persona preference and what was popular (rare to have this type of service within Paris, haha). We opted for their breakfast set, which comes with some bread, pastries, jam, etc. This is enough for a couple people to share (unless you plan on loading up on carbs to keep you fueled up for all the walking you'll be doing (and yes, there will be plenty of walking all around Paris). Try their coffee as well, which is a good final touch to that meal of yours. You'll need the extra kick after indulging on all that starch. All the staff, including the owner were extra nice and when I asked for a good place to get a good coffee to do some people watching, he gave a handful of spots within a 10 minute walk! Try to snag a seat next to the window if you can. And be prepared to take plenty of pics for your IG (and for your Yelp reviews too of course). read more

I was visiting Paris with my Mom and Sister in May 2012. After a few less than impressive (but still $$$) meals, I decided to turn to Yelp for ideas! The breakfast at Claus is fantastic! The decor and service was just what I was hoping for! There are some great mid-century pieces here. The menus are printed new every day with the date and weather forecast, which is really handy for us tourists. We came twice on our week long trip and my sister and I both had the eggs and bacon each time. The bacon strips were nice and crispy. On our second visit my mom was feeling adventurous and had the club sandwich :) It was so adorable, all the crusts were cut off! Wow. I have never enjoyed smoked salmon in my life, but after reading all the yelp reviews I had to give it a try. It was the tastiest smoked salmon I've ever had and I would eat it every day if I could! The smoked salmon came with two drinks (one hot and one cold), bread with jam and butter, and a dessert raspberry tart. And it was probably one of the most expensive breakfasts I've ever had for the small portions that it is. Le Jean-Jacques Rousseau (what the menu selection is called for the smoked salmon) was 27 euros. So pricey, but it's definitely worth it to try at least once if you're in Paris. We've also tried Le Hugo (24 euros) which came with two drinks as well, bread with jam and butter, a very small portion of scrambled eggs with bacon, and 3 mini desserts (a small brownie looking thing, yogurt with granola, and a small fruit tart. And I've tried the Le Francais (15 euros) on a separate occasion and was kinda disappointed with how little it was for what it cost. I got two drinks, bread, 3 mini bakery items, and a yogurt. It wasn't very satisfying after having some other items on the menu. Overall, this place will gouge your wallet a little more than other Paris restaurants (and especially for a breakfast place), but it's really quite tasty and I would say you should definitely try it once at least for the smoked salmon if you're ever visiting Paris. It is very difficult to get in without a reservation, so make sure you try to get one before going! It's a very small shop and there's two small tables downstairs with all the bakery items you can purchase to-go and probably about 6 tables of two upstairs (which are moved around depending on your party size). You might have some luck if you're just a table of 2 to squeeze in before another reservation, but you may end up having to eat very quickly! read more

As a New Yorker, I realized I had to judge Claus based on a breakfast spot located near the highly touristed Metropolitan Museum. It was exactly what we expected. A satisfying breakfast for the area, though not spectacular. Remember it is located in one of the most touristed areas of the world. I ordered two eggs (poached) with the smoked salmon and it was good. Mind blowing? Definitely not. The bread that accompanied (without butter) was bleh. The jus natural was just ok - I should have ordered the jus d'orange as it was clearly better. Neighboring tables ordered baskets of breads, pastries, granola. I'm just not into that. One of the best brunches I've ever had in my life. This place is tucked away behind the Louvre and is a small little place. It seems to be quite popular, so avoid the wait by getting there early, however it doesn't seem super touristy as well. I ordered "Le Véro-Dodat" - which came with coffee/tea, fruit juice, 2 eggs with bacon, homemade pastries and a chia and apple porridge with a shortcake. I have to say the eggs were perfect texture and the chives on top were a yummy touch! The bacon was just amazing and was full of flavor. My friend tried my bread and kept on wanting more and more. Lastly, the porridge was flavorful and was more of a dessert than a breakfast item. Same with the shortcake! I also tried the signature Bavarian Pancake with Apples and Almonds and it was something that had complex flavored and full of rich flavors! I would go back just for that. One of the best breakfast places I've been to in Europe. Let me start by saying, this place is not cheap. In a city where you can pick up a coffee and delicious croissant for under €5, this place really is at the gourmet end... but totally worth it. We went here for my birthday brekky, so the €30ish per head was kinda part of my pressie. It's a set menu, but there are quite a few different options, for those who are usually afraid of set menus. We chose to start with mimosas (great choice) and I ordered a simple Americano with cold milk on the wide. My hubby ordered a cappuccino and I think my choice was wiser (his didn't look like the nicest coffee in the world). For food, hubby ordered the poached eggs and bacon and was not disappointed. I ordered the hard boiled eggs (because I couldn't work out how to say "soft boiled" in French and am too stubborn to order in english) but they were delicious. The bread basket was amazing, but the real highlights were the French butter and the jam! Amazing!!! I will say, I wasn't a massive fan of the yogurt, coulis and bran muffin... very branny. My Airbnb was right down the street and once we got settled, we were starving. It was a bit past 1 pm on a Thursday. There was no line but it was full inside - a grand total of three or four tables. We were about to walk in but there was a sign saying that they didn't take reservations in the summer and to please wait outside until you can be seated. The good thing was that the weather wasn't bad and we quickly gained company as others joined us in line. After the line increased by 5 parties, the single guy taking care of the tables was alerted he had a line. They close at 3. He quickly went outside to count who was there and took in the sign telling people to wait. By this time, my husband and I decided we had to eat something having had waited for so long. The French certainly have no qualms against taking their time, haha. Not a bad thing! It's just not widely seen in the States. It was around 30 minutes or so until we were finally seated. We were handed menus and chose our food. It turned out to be quite a lot. We started off with the French (Le français) breakfast that consisted of a tea or coffee, a bread bowl of a brioche, a croissant, and a fig scone with jam and butter (they ran out of brioche so we got two croissants), a green tea and mint yogurt, and a fresh juice of your choice. Then we added a soft boiled egg with bread crusts. Next, we ordered the apple Bavarian cake after reading some reviews. Upon the waiter's suggestion (he knew some English), we also ordered the Burrata with the ratatouille. Our table barely had room for it all. As a first impression of French (German-inspired?) food, it was delicious. We're vegetarian and we don't eat onion, garlic, leeks, and chives, so I was expecting pastries but was definitely pleasantly surprised. Juice: I got the vitamin which was a blend of carrot, Apple, and something else. It was a perfect combination with not one favor bring too strong and it was just the right amount of sweetness. Breads: the croissants were some of the best I've tasted; perfectly crispy on the outside and buttery and flaky on the inside. The scone was perfect as well but I wouldn't say the fig taste was overwhelming. The jam and butter complimented it well - I especially loved the jam. Yogurt: it's plain and though I remember reading that there was green tea, I really only tasted the mint. I loved it and the freshness helped cut through the carbs. Apple cake: I was expecting something smaller. As it were, it looked similar to a 8-inch cornbread but topped with thinly sliced apples and slivered almonds. The actual cake itself didn't seem to be sweetened or flavored much and the outside was a bit crispy but the inside was a bit moist but dense, compared to the other breads we had. It would have been good if we hadn't already finished the croissants and scone. As it was, it was a bit too much. Burrata and ratatouille: the Burrata wasn't as runny as I've had them but the ratatouille was on the cold side so perhaps that attributed to it. The combination between the earthiness of the ratatouille and the creaminess of the cheese was good. I loved how simple and delicious it was. And it had no onion or garlic! All in all, I wondered if I should give Claus 4 stars for the wait, but in the end, I loved the food too much so 5 stars it is. The guy who helped was nice and helpful and everything went smoothly. The place is tiny and cute... It could probably do with more seats but I guess it helps with the hype? Speaking of the table (we got the window seat), I kicked the leg multiple times. Sorry, neighboring table. I might visit again, but it ultimately depends on how hungry I am. My stomach was gnawing a hole through itself by the time we got our food and it seems like a line is the norm at Claus. We ate every bit of the food we ordered and didn't take any out... We ended up walking the hour to our next destination to walk it off instead of taking the Metro as originally planned. read more

What an incredibly charming little épicerie in a great location. I am currently studying abroad here in Paris, and a friend and I decided to play hookie one day to check out a new place to eat breakfast. It was well worth the class absence! I had scrambled eggs and bacon with a croissant. The eggs were fresh, fluffy and simple while the croissant was buttery, crispy and sweet. My friend enjoyed a club sandwich, which was just some fresh arugula and tomato on toasted white bread. On my way out, I caught a glimpse of the omelets, which also looked amazing. The staff is friendly and personable, but make sure to have a reservation beforehand otherwise they will unfortunately have to turn people away. The waiter didn't seem to mind my broken French as he let me practice ordering with him. Overall, great little eatery! read more

Yum! This place was a breath of fresh air after several days of eating heavy french food with butter sauces. They are english-friendly, and really care a lot about the source of ingredients & delicate presentation. My husband had grapefruit juice that tasted straight out of the grapefruit (with the same amount of pulp). We also had a delicious cold tomato soup and endive salad, and some high-quality smoked salmon with bread & "little gem" like salad. They also have a store below selling organic tea, granola, and other baked goods. I wholly recommend eating here, especially if you just finished with the Louvre, or the Musee D'Orsay. What an absolutely wonderful breakfast/brunch spot. The location is quiet, the staff is charming and friendly, the space itself is great, small and quaint. And the food is absolutely outstanding. Everything we had was delicious. And after having so many delicious French treats I was really happy to have cold pressed green juice and with coconut crumble. My husband had perfectly poached eggs, bacon and green sautéed vegetables. We tried a few of the sweet baked goods in the croissants absolutely perfect, and the hazelnut muffin/was worth trying! Big kudos to our lovely waitress. She could not have been kinder. We were visiting during the heatwave and she was clearly very hot but totally lovely and accommodating. read more

Just a great place to visit, walk inside and experience Paris. The service is welcoming and I have to recommend making reservations in advance. The main sitting is above the walk-in cafe. You will find an assortment of all the sweet goodies when you walk in and notice the custom lighting on the ceiling, making it just stand out! I went for brunch and had a classic chicken sandwich with some sweets for the table. Service was prompt and the food was spot on with my group. It is a must try! read more

The pastries were a work of art. The food was incredible, and the service was friendly albeit 'efficient'. This place is quite small. We saw a number of people get turned away due to lack of seating. My hubby and I were staying across the street from this place and kept leaving the apartment to the smell of fresh baked goodies. I thought, because of how cute, stylish and modern this place was that it would be a great experience. Not so much. The food was decent, nothing to write home about. The service was kinda rude and slow, but I've come to realize that this is a staple of Parisian dining. It's when you get great service and great food that you've really stumbled upon a gem in Paris. What a cute little breakfast place! When you first walk in, there's a small bakeshop and you can see them making fresh juices and pastries. Upstairs is a cozy little loft with a long bench with cushions on one wall and small tables all around. Where do I begin? The jams, oh my those jams!!!! The baked good were perfection. Make reservations; it helps eliminate a long wait on the wait list! The space is small and the place seems popular so it fills up quickly. The food was delicious and the waitstaff guys were on point despite being so busy, as well as all very kind. They kept my luggage for me while I waited for a table to free up [you can go across the street to their cafe and have a coffee], and when paying pointed out that in euros would be better than in US dollars. They didn't have to tell me that, so I appreciated it. They also speak multiple languages. And the food is so good it makes you wish your stomach could hold more. I would love to come back. More than a solid 3.5 stars, an overall satisfying experience based on fellow Yelpers here. The omelette and 'pancake', which was made nice & fluffy with slices of apple & powdered white sugar sprinkled generously, were good, just not overly yummy that I'd return again. Hot chocolate definitely the highlight, smooth as silk. But if I was a local, Claus (& surrounding area) certainly is a nice spot to leisurely relax as a few girls with their Mac Air's were working. Another cozy spot upstairs though I'd prefer the downstairs for better eye candy, to see the rest of the pastries. Lovely little place. The breakfast was really good, we had the Claus with a hot drink, fruit juice, a basket of breads & croissants, scrambled eggs & bacon & their homemade granola with plain yogurt. The hot chocolate was one of the best I've had in Paris by far. The service was quick & staff were friendly. However the price is on the high side but not unsurprising given its proximity to the Louvre. Hence 4 stars rather than 5. A lovely place for a treat once in a while but not for a regular Sunday brunch. read more
