We decided we would rather order the just the cooked apples. So good and creamy. Hush puppies were really heavy and dense. Potato salad had sweet relish Loved the old diner and small town feel. Mac and cheese was not anything to write home about. Salad was huge - took it back to my hotel. Haggerty's was busy in a small-ish town for a Thursday night. I don't drink, so no comment on any alcohol except to say the Cosmo looking drinks at a table nearby looked great in frosty glasses. There were a few large groups lingering and chatting. Several other single eaters at the bar who seemed happy. Some family style meals going on - groups of 4 or 5. Overall, I'd say this is good spot to go for a steak if you're craving one. I'd return.

If you ever find yourself passing through Windsor, do yourself a favor and stop at Ella's…read moreCafe--it's exactly the kind of place that reminds you why small-town diners are so special. We stopped in on a Friday for lunch while traveling home, our family of four plus my mother-in-law, and from the moment we walked in, it felt warm, welcoming, and genuinely local. Even during the lunch rush, the service was impressively fast and friendly--no small feat for a busy midday crowd. One of the sweetest touches was for the kids: their meals came with a coloring book Bible, crayons, two small toys, and a Bible verse bookmark. It was such a thoughtful, personal detail that you just don't see often anymore, and it made the experience extra memorable for them. As for the food--everything tasted homemade in the best way. The coleslaw was spot-on, just like Grandma used to make. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked--not over-fried at all--and the hushpuppies were downright addictive. Even the ribeye sandwich stood out as surprisingly delicious and satisfying. A quick heads-up: this is a cash or check only spot, which honestly just adds to its charm as a true mom-and-pop restaurant. All in all, Ella's Cafe is a hidden gem--simple, heartfelt, and full of character. We left full, happy, and already talking about stopping again next time we're passing through. Highly recommend!

The bus puppies can literally be a dish alone, the greens are just like my Pappy & GrannyB used to make them. We drive from outside of Richmond, VA at least 4 times a year to just let the delicious vinegar soaked pork melt in our mouths. And we're always taking several containers of pork and sides home with us. My Pappy grew up around here and I first had Ralph's at a family thing a few years after my GrannyB passed (my Pappy had been gone like 15+ years). My husband and I literally found out where my great aunts had the food catered from and we called in an order to go before we got back on 95 to head home. We've turned several family into Ralph's since. If the BBQ makes your tongue jump up and slap your brains loose.... That shit hits and you have to get more...
