I'm a long-time supporter and have been coming to this auto shop for about 3 years. I'm pretty much done with them now. The last time I came here, I had my brakes and oil changed for around $200, which seemed reasonable at the time. After my recent experience, though, that no longer feels justified. A few days ago, I returned for a scheduled oil change. While working on my car, the employees had trouble removing the oil cap and ended up breaking the plastic cap. Despite the damage occurring during the service, I was still charged about $200 total and told that replacing the stripped and broken oil cap was my responsibility. A few weeks later, I noticed an unusual oil or water stain underneath my car. Concerned, I took it to a different shop for a second opinion. They were able to tighten the oil filter cap at no charge, which resolved the issue. Overall, I'm very disappointed with how this situation was handled and will be taking my business elsewhere moving forward. read more

first I took my bosses jeep there to get a new radiator put in. it was fine. second I went in for a simple inspection. it took 3 days. my fault for keep coming back. they use parts from the junkyard (probably exclusivel). they show up with big pallets of used parts. they place is greasy, dirty, I wouldn't use the bathroom there. I had it towed from Busch stadium & used there (not owned by them) it was over $250. the radiator was probably in need of repair. he called yelling because I also need a front bumper replaced & he informed me in a not nice way they don't do body work. so he had it towed 1/4 mile for another $80. I'll never go there again even if I just need new lug nuts. read more

I had a very good experience at Claude's. I was taken great care of - I just walked in and told them I'm hearing a strange noise in my car and within seconds of hearing it they let me know what they thought it was - then they confirmed by taking a look at my vehicle on the rack. They didn't charge me a thing but I would've been more than happy to pay for the stellar service. Although they couldn't fix the issue themselves they recommended a shop which was also just as great. Claude's is a family owned and run automotive shop. I have always gotten good service and the number one thing is value- not getting ripped off. I went in early October after my service light went on and asked if they could take a look at my car. After talking to me they said it was the maintenance light which indicated I needed an oil change- not a bigger issue. I took it promptly in for an oil change. Claude's is a mom and pop type of place. After calling around to multiple places this was the only place that could get me in for an emissions the day of. A few weeks later someone broke my door mirror and after a few estimates Claude's was also significantly cheaper than other places. They do their best to get you the lowest cost available! I kept hearing a grinding noise every time I applied the brakes. I was sure I needed new brakes. They could have charged me $$$ for full a brake job. Fantastic. I realized that I was having brake issues while on a short trip to St. Louis. I called Claude's and they quoted me a fair price and got me in right away. Claude can come off as gruff and is definitely a man of few words, but he does great business and won't screw you over. I was having battery problems and the guys at auto zone assured me the battery was, in fact, good. They recommended Claude. Well, Claude took a look and disagreed with auto zone, after his own testing. So off I went back to auto zone to get my free battery that was still under warranty. Claude's Auto is a small repair shop in Maplewood. It's owned by Claude himself. I have been taking my car there for years. He is honest and reasonable. For example I needed a new starter he told me he could order one for $150 or I could walk across the street to AutoZone and buy one for $90. I can't praise this place/owner enough! I read the previous review about Claude's as it's right down the street from me. Being a skeptic about mechanics, I asked the guys at the guys at the autozone what they thought and they simply said 'Claude does good work. We'd recommend him". Alright, so I'd take the gamble. I dropped my car off for some routine stuff, (Transmission fluid, power steering, and belt change). I was in a rush that morning and did something I wouldn't DARE ever do again...I left my car there without getting an estimate. I dreaded the bill all day and when I came back, it was about 30% what I expected!! Not only that, but Claude noticed an oil leak (which I should've picked up on before), called the honda dealership for me, and then recommended that I take my car there to get the drain plug threaded as he suggested they would do a better job because they have the proper tools. What an honest guy!! Fast forward to the next day, the Honda dealership said they had to replace the oil pan. No threading could be done. Estimated $600+ worth of work. I immediately called Caude to see what he thought. He said if it had to be replaced, he could do it for a fraction of the price but he wanted to explore another plug method. I brought it back a few days later...what I was told would be a $600+ job turned out to cost me $15 in labor and parts!! I can't praise the guy highly enough. We were sent to Claude's when Stricker's was too busy for us to get an appointment to look at my brakes. Claude's took us right in and immediately found the problem *and* determined the brakes were still under warranty and tracked down getting replacement parts without any help from us. That trip cost us less than $70. Today we had to take my car back to have an electrical issue looked at and they diagnosed a bad alternator very quickly and had it replaced and my car ready to go in only a few hours. We've been taking the family cars to Claude's for nearly 20 years for everything from inspections to ball joints to you name it. It's an old fashioned mechanics service station. There are only two bays and no fancy waiting room with big screen tv. It's pretty much drop off and pick up unless it's something super quick or they happen to be slow. I should mention that all our vehicles made it well over 100,000 miles (one was 22 years old the last time he worked on it). In all that time we've never had to bring the vehicle back because it wasn't fixed right the first time. Claude doesn't upsell. He understands what "money is tight" means and will tell you what repairs can wait a month or two if need be and what needs to be done now for your safety with no BS. He'll tell you if a job is bigger than he wants to get involved in (like replacing a custom exhaust or an entire engine) and where is a good place to take it. I got other estimates on a couple bigger repairs and Claude was always competitive if not lowest. For me, choosing a mechanic is almost as personal a choice as choosing a doctor, maybe more. The secret is out! The best, nicest and most honest mechanic around, Claude's. Now, no one will be able to get in to get their car serviced, darn! My fave auto mechanic closed down shop, sadly and I needed a new place to take my cars. I asked a body shop repair man where to go and he recommended Claude's. I was skeptical since I've been taken advantage of many times over, but I needed a new car service technician and a new place to have my car serviced. Claude is not a man of many words and he runs a tight ship with two employees, but he is upfront, honest, does the job right and is the kind of guy who doesn't really take appointments. He does try really hard to get your car in for the day the best he can. His mind is like a machine with all the appointments, parts, payments, what's being done to what vehicle, etc. that he has going on and his employees are busy servicing cars and ordering parts for the cars that are not in stock. I hope they do not go out of business for a VERY long time. I found a gem and want to hang on to this gem for a SUPER long time. Claude has some long time clients and some new comers, such as myself. Claude's does accept credit cards, however cash and checks are very much appreciated and much preferred. It's one of the ways he keeps costs down. Very happy and very pleased. They were ridiculously affordable and fast, friendly, and transparent. There was no question of getting ripped off. I went in to get my brakes checked out, pretty sure I'd be spending around $400, because I knew they were in rough shape. They had my car up and were looking at my brakes within 2 minutes of me walking in the door. They were straightforward and honest about what I needed, without patronizing me (which women often deal with at mechanics). One rotor, front pads, and rear shoes all for $233 and I was in and out the door in one hour. I will never take a car anywhere else. read more

I took my car to Claude's Auto Service because I just bought it the week before and noticed some transmission fluid on the ground after I bought it, and I thought it was the cooling lines. Sure enough Claude found the steel line's were almost rusted through and I also asked him to just check the car over to see if I needed anything else, he told me my serpentine belt was cracked and needed to be replaced within 6 months. Now I am sure if I was at any chain store or dishonest auto shop they would have a list 2 miles long with must have repair's. Claude's is a throwback in time when you were dealt with honestly no upsells or scare tactics like most every other place out there. About a month ago and took my car to Dobbs in O'Fallon MO because i was experiencing some hesitation in the engine when i drove. They gave me a laundry list of things that needed to be fixed every two weeks when i get paid, i've gone back to them for another "fix." They told me that i needed a water pump and if you know cars, then you know they also want to do the timing belt. Labor alone would've cost me $430. Grand total: $900!! There was no way i was going to be able to pay that. I tried calling around to other big name shops and everyone quoted the same price range. My car was starting to overheat during my commute to and from work and i didn't know what to do. On tuesday, in the midst of overheating, i stopped at the Autozone on Big Bend for some coolant. While in there, i was chatting with one of the clerks and mentioned my issue. She said "Let me call Claude and see what he says." She called him and he told her he'd check and call back. Within moments he called back with a price that was actually affordable!!!!! We set an appointment for this morning and i dropped my car off at 8am. I just picked it up and i can say that i am truly satisfied with the work. The real test of course will be tomorrow when i drive 30 miles to work, but judging from the other reviews on yelp, i won't be having any issues. Claude had my car twice after I was stranded trying to get to the hospital to see my critically ill son. He stated after the first time that he replaced the crank sensor and sent me on my way. Three days later on the way to the hospital my car stopped again, this time he said it was the spark plugs, ignition coil and the battery. The same day I got my car back, I was stranded again on my way to the hospital. I decided to take my car to someone else because apparently CLAUDE doesn't care that I get stranded by myself. I was just informed that they had to replace the crank sensor and igintion coil. I thought CLAUDE replaced these. Be aware.......CLAUDE is not trustworthy!! read more
