Really struggled if I wanted to reupholster a chair that I have had for years. After shopping around, I determined that the chair was way too good of a quality to give up. I have shot many times at classic house and absolutely loved the place and had spoken to Isaac a few years ago about doing the chair, so I finally decided to pull the trigger. Wow it was the best decision I could've done. The process was so easy. I sent a picture of the chair and I was promptly given a quote. Just keep in mind that the labor is one cost but you also have to take into account the cost of the fabric. They had a large variety of fabrics to choose from, and it can definitely be a bit overwhelming, but Charlie and Isaac were very accommodating and helping me pick something out. Once I picked my fabric, Isaac gave me the full cost, and I paid a down payment with the remainder to be paid upon pickup. So contrary, to what another poster stated, there was never any question about exactly how much the job would cost. My chair was done very quickly, and all I have to say is it came out beautifully. The quality of the work on the reupholstery was better than the work on the original chair. Charlie was able to refill some of the stuffing and add much better webbing on the bottom. I am so happy I pulled the trigger and got this done. If you're someone that wants comfortable, good quality furniture that you just can't seem to find nowadays because of the way they're manufactured I would not hesitate to either reupholster what you have or find an old chair. That's good quality and get it done because these guys are the best not to mention you can't ask for a nicer people. read more

If you're in Phoenix and ever in need of upholstery work, I can't recommend Classic House enough. My husband and I met Charlie years ago when we wandered into his store by chance while antiquing in the Melrose District. After seeing his beautiful upholstery work, we promised ourselves that if we ever needed upholstery done, we would go to him. Years later, we finally had Charlie restore our family heirloom captains chair. The chair is hand carved and from the 1800s. It's been in our family for decades, so we wouldn't trust just anyone to work on it. Charlie was so excited about the project from the minute he saw the chair--he even researched where it could've possibly come from and who might have made it. He and Isaac helped us pick fabric and trim for it and made the whole process really fun. We are absolutely thrilled with the result and know Charlie's work will last for decades more. He stripped the chair down to its bones, completely rebuilt the inside, and upholstered it with new tweed. It feels like a completely new chair. This review is long overdue...about 8 months or so overdue, in fact! I had a baby and so my life has been quite consumed, but Charlie and Isaac helped me get ready for that baby- my daughter! I was wanting to decorate her nursery and needed an upholsterer for the little old and outdated loveseat I'd found. Classic House came highly recommended, so I took my little piece there to have it redone. It was a dark brown wood frame with blue and yellow (hideous!) plaid upholstery. We had the frame painted white and Charlie did an excellent job upholstering in a beautiful textile I found. He did a stunning job and everyone comments on how adorable it is. We had such a wonderful time getting to know him a bit through the process; he is such a fun guy with some great stories! But what really impressed and seriously made my year, was the surprise that he made for me. The day we went to pick up the little loveseat, I pretty much started crying. Not only was that sweet little piece sitting there, but right next to it was a gorgeous antique rocking chair, upholstered in the same textile and painted white to match. I was shocked and so touched! It's so funny, because I had been debating on whether to do a loveseat or a rocking chair for awhile...and I was able to get both! I swung by there looking for old hardware for a project I am working on, and decided to look around first. As I walked around, I noticed that it was clean and well kept which is a big deal to me. Their selection was pretty random, from furniture to little knick nacks. This would be somewhere that would be worth checking out every now and then to see what other treasures might pop up. Now, the staff was the best part. Would give 10 stars if I could! We stumbled across Classic House after seeing this 1960s chair in a nearby store that needed new foam in its cushions. We decided to go ask an upholsterer if this was possible before purchasing the chair. As we were describing the chair to Charlie, we realized that he really needed more information to know if he could insert the cushion. We offered to go back and look at the chair again, but instead he said he would just come with us! This kind of customer service just doesn't exist anymore. After seeing the chair and deciding he could work on it, Charlie put it himself in the back of his truck and took it to his store. He had it ready that same afternoon and the chair was perfect. If you need something re-upholstered, Charlie is hands-down the best choice in the city. I'm SO happy with his work AND his prices! Trust me, I shopped around to compare and Charlie's prices are the BEST! We have a mid-century home and we're furnishing with period pieces. I've taken 4 items to him and just left my 5th one with him today. I buy most of my furniture on Craigslist for a great price and then take it to Charlie for him to look at and tell me how much fabric to buy. He's always spot-on and has even repaired broken springs, missing feet, tightened anything wobbly, removed horrible cigarette smoke from my vintage love seat and this time he's re-staining the legs of the vintage chair I just dropped off. The item Charlie finished for me last week should seriously win a Lifetime Achievement Award...I am in AWE of this man and his ability to turn out true works of art! ANGRY, UNPROFESSIONAL & UNTRUSWORTHY, BUYER BEWARE! CLASSIC HOUSE ULPHOLSTERY. My wife and I were looking for a dress shop when we stumbled across Classic House. We walked in to browse and eventually found ourselves in a conversation with the gentleman at the desk. When we learned that the store did re-upholstery, we asked for a quote for a 5 chair kitchenette set, and were given a verbal quote in the ~$250 range as we described it. My wife settled on a fabric and we brought the chairs in for the work. Before we left, he mentioned that he would complimentarily touch up marks/scrapes on the wood. I stated that there was quite a bit of wear. The gentleman was very pleasant and polite in our dealings that day. My wife changed the fabric a couple of days before we dropped the chairs and everything seemed fine till that point. When the chairs were done and ready to be picked up, my wife and I went together to pick up the chairs. We arrived 10 minutes before closing, the gentleman we worked with was not there. The second gentleman had locked up, and announced they were closed when we caught his attention through the gate. We said that we had scheduled a pickup before 5pm and we had placed a call around 4pm to the business to let them know we were on our way from Scottsdale and we were hoping to make it on time. There was no answer and no return call. The gentleman wasn't very happy to hear that we were there to pick up the chairs that close to 5pm and he left us out in the sun while he checked. Five to ten minutes later he came out and said "OK, your chairs are ready". We came in and talked about the total. The shock came when he told us the total was $553.43 from a verbal quote of ~$250-275! The fabric $78 was never mentioned, even after the fabric was changed, the "little more for refinish" turned out to be $100 and the recover turned out $375! We stated that the total was WAY greater than the estimate originally quoted. After some discussion, the second gentleman decided that he would reduced the price from $553.43 to $453.43. and mentioned that he never did business like this that he would have a talk with his partner. He said he always emailed the customer and gave a written quote. That never happened with us. We believed in the verbal word of the older gentleman and had no reason to doubt his honor. At the end we walked away from the store uneasy about the experience. We felt that the younger business partner leaving us out in the sun wondering if he was ever coming back, was unprofessional and in poor business form. Overall, though, and even though we paid $178 more than we were verbally quoted and expected, the chairs looked reasonably good (though we later recognized that the fabric had been unevenly stretched resulting in a wavy pattern). *** THE REAL PROBLEM came the next day when the first gentleman called and began leaving messages on my cell phone demanding to speak to us. I received three messages and eventually spoke with him when he reached me while at work. He explained that he was very disappointed about how things went and that we were at fault. As far as I was concerned, the transaction was complete. There was a misunderstanding directly due to his failure to provide a written quote. This led to confusion and put his colleague into a bad position. The colleague did the right thing and made an adjustment, not even meeting us halfway, but willingly. In our phone conversation, he continued to repeat that we were at fault. I stated that I was working and wasn't in a position to discuss. He then stated that we were to never visit his store again and that he would throw is out if we returned. I have no idea how he got to that point, but we don't intend to return to the shop and for your sake, beware of "verbal agreements" with Classic House Upholstery. read more

Unlike it's neighboring store, this place actually has cute vintage stuff and AC! I liked the fact that "I Love Lucy" was playing on old TV's and set up just like a living room from 1950. There were also 2 adorable bathrooms with kitchy stuff inside to buy. I also liked the snack table, which included free popcorn, candy and cookies. How clever! I didn't end up buying anything here but really liked it. Just be careful walking around...very tight spaces and stuff everywhere! I would probably return. read more
