terrible terrible service. I went in for an eye exam on April 24th and they couldn't find me in their system even though I'd been before. I received a bootleg I exam where things were written down, not entered in the computer then couldn't pay because we still couldn't find me in the system. I came back a few days later to try and get my prescription and to pay and they said it was still down. another week went by finally. I called them again and asked them about my prescription. they emailed my prescription to me and then since then they've been sending me emails and texts asking me to pay the $10 copay for this terrible service. I've called and been on hold for up to 20 minutes at the time. I would not go back ever read more

Yesterday was my first time at Clarkson. I work downtown, so walked over from 14th Street for my appointment on a very hot afternoon. I walked into the office at 4:10 and said, "Hello, I have a 4:15 appointment." Someone with an "office manager" nametag snapped back, "It was at 4:00 and I also don't have your insurance information." Um....it's great to meet you, too? This was so rude and unwelcoming, especially for a first-time client. I had made the appointment online (for 4:15, as stated) and had indeed entered my insurance information, which the office manager eventually acknowledged. She continued to be curt and abrupt, so I guess her "greeting" was a signal of her personality. I decided to stay, and luckily the optometrist (Shannon) and the optician (Ajhia) were both great. Shannon did the usual eye testing and discussed the results with me as well as answering a couple of questions I had. Ajhia was fun to work with as I selected frames, and ran several different pricing options for my choices to see what combination of insurance and discounts would get me the best price. I'll pick up the glasses in two weeks and will update if anything changes, but in the meantime, I highly recommend this place once you get past the gatekeeper. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I went to this Clarkson because I work near it but I usually go to the one near my home. I walked in and to my surprise, I was in the middle of a crime scene. Someone had broke into the office the night before and just ransacked the establishment. The young ladies that were there look very unsettled and uneasy which I do not blame them. Clarkson as a business is terrible! What if those girls were your daughters!? Being in Downtown STL is already sketchy, but to still be open for "business" with no form of security after what just happened is just wrong. I couldn't even sit for my appointment knowing that I was the reason for them being there. I wanted to speak to their office manager, just to find out that he was working at a different office drove me to write this review. You can be safe working at a different office, but expect your workers to work in a crime scene is mind boggling. I switched from Americas Best about 2 years ago and up until i moved back to Missouri i had no issues before. Since relocating i have had multiple issues with this location specifically. The first time i booked an appt here they rescheduled me for another location without notifying me so i was late to the original appt i scheduled and went to the other office they rescheduled me for which was 10 minutes away and was told i had to reschedule for 5 hour's later for a mistake that was originally made completely on their end. Now that i've gotten the exam and ordered contacts. I was told they could not locate them yesterday and i never received a receipt or proof of purchase to verify. Although they did find it i missed a call from you guys the next day and called back immediately i was told everyone was on lunch and they didnt know who called me and would give me a call back. Since then i've been calling and no one will pick up and all i want is my contacts so that i can see.. literally. read more

I called Clarkson today to make an appointment and it appears they are listening to this last idot who said the service was poorly run by dumb people. They responded to your insults and know there is a fresh talker who is determined to get her point across. She was really SMART almost too smart. I've been a customer here for over 15 years ordering the same service and she didn't acknowledge me, like the previous staff. I doubt that she look at my record. I told her what I usually do and she just kept repeating herself and talking about all the policies Clarkson has. There was never a problem in the previous staff, they were reading my information and comparing what Clarkson had to offer. If you need drive up service from any doctor its just best to order online. That how you get everything to look the same. Looking for another store. read more

I was examined and fitted with glasses in December 2014. I bought two pair. The fit was tight--too much pressure on the sides of my head. The tech said that was normal, the frames would adjust. After a year the frames were still tight, so I returned and brought both pair. The nice lady at the front desk took them to the back. When she returned with them, they both felt fine. I thanked her and went on my way. The very next day, when I put on one of the pair, one of the arms broke off. The metal was apparently fatigued. I returned to Clarkson the following Monday. Another nice lady at the front desk told me that I could order a replacement frame for $89. I suggested to her that I believed the frame had failed because of the "adjustment" that had been made the previous Thursday. She said the frames were now out of warranty, since one year had passed since they were purchased. There was nothing she could do. I gave her $89--plus shipping, since I was leaving town for a couple of months. After I thought about it some more, I decided to write Clarkson and plead my case--that the frames had been damaged by the "adjustment" and that I should not have to pay for the repair. I sent two emails to different addresses at Clarkson. It has now been two weeks since I wrote and have heard nothing in response. This is not good customer service. I will be taking my future business elsewhere. read more

This review is the sum of two experiences: my spouse and I. This has been a long and terrible diagnostic and eyewear experience. We wanted to support a downtown vendor, Mr. Jehling, the president of Clarkson, has been a great civic leader and contributor in St. Louis, and someone I admire. My wife has been back four times because her prescription from Dr. Gore is wrong (we actually know they have mistaken the stigmatism on the right for the left), and she has been blown off each time. I have been back three times because my prescription is wrong and the frames simply do not fit. The staff convey that they are annoyed with us, and show no interest in responding. We dropped over a thousand dollars at this center to renew our glasses and now have to start over with a new optometrist and eyeglass vendor. There is no interest in service at this location. I always wait WAY too long to go back to the eye doc but things were getting a little too blurry for comfort so I made an appointment with Clarkson. A few years back I had gone to a different location and had a fantastic experience. Either this location is just sub par or I am remembering a rosier version of my last appointment because this visit was just "ok" on every level. I only had to wait five minutes (yay) but then at every step of the appointment thereafter they kept trying to sell me procedures that they said were important but would be a little extra because insurance is "behind the times." I don't know anything about what procedures to get so this left an uncomfortable taste in my mouth because I felt like I was at a shady car lot not my eye doc. The eye exam itself was again fine but the eye doctor was the least personable doc I have ever been around. I think he maybe actually looked at me once. I ended up with a great pair of glasses in the end but left feeling slightly uncomfortable like maybe i had been taken advantage of with my $. read more

Shocked to see a bad review for Dr. Sarah Gore. I was referred to her by a friend and she was fantastic! I'm 53 yrs old and have terrible vision. I have seen many eye doctors since the age of 14 and she is by far my favorite. She took so much time doing my exam and explaining everything in detail and in a way I could understand. It seems my last doctor TWICE gave me the wrong eye glass prescription which was too strong. Dr. Gore got me into a new pair of glasses and I finally don't get a headache with my glasses. Also, I have been a daily contact wearer for many years but was having difficulty seeing up close so rather than getting reading glasses, I got Multi-Focal contacts. They are AMAZING! I can see up close now and I have always loved contacts more than glasses so I can see all the time and I can see everything! Woohoo!! I'm so grateful that Dr. Gore suggested these to me. If she was rude, I can't imagine it being intentional, probably just behind because she DOES take the time to really get to know her patients and their needs. Anyway, that's sure how she made me feel. I've recommended her to several friends and think she ROCKS! P.S. I did have to wait but not even 10 minutes. I wait 30 minutes for any other doctor I've had to go to and it stinks but who knows what puts them behind. It is what it is. read more

I was using YELP simply to look up the phone number for the Downtown location. After reading some of the hostile reviews, I felt compelled to write a review myself. I've been going to the Downtown location for at least the past four years. Each time I've had my appointment, I've had excellent care and service. In particular, I've had EXCEPTIONAL care provided by Dr. Gore! She was friendly and knowledgable--a total professional. She was able to refer to me an optical neurologist at BJC when I had some particularly concerning vision problems--and she made a call on my behalf to get me in to that doctor quickly. I don't remember the name of the doctors I had prior to Dr. Gore--but they were equally fantastic. The staff at the front have always been hospitable and knowledgable. Sometimes the wait is short; sometimes the wait is a bit longer, but again--that can happen anywhere--and it's never seemed excessive. read more
