So what exactly is Satan's Kingdom?  Well, it's  a one acre state operated public recreation area on the Farmington River used for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing down the river's three sets of rapids courtesy of Farmington River Tubing. Where did that devilish name come from? I read that construction of a nearby railroad in the 1870's proved so difficult the railroad workers named it "Satan's Kingdom" In 2012 the recreation area gained Connecticut State Park status. We walked along the deserted grounds (tubing is closed for the season) and saw some very nice scenery and river views, Not one devil in sight.

The fishing is outstanding (for both largemouth bass & trout), but the experience on the water is even more enjoyable because of a motor restriction -- outboards are limited to 12 cu in. This keeps away the jet skiers, water skiers, and their ilk, which so annoy hardcore fishermen like myself. Gates don't open to 7am (6am on Opening Day, 3rd Saturday in April), and they close at Sunset. The launch fee is $10, your 5th launch is free. They also rent jon boats (w/o motors) for 1/2 day or full day use. The boats have a good amount of space, more so then the ones they rent out at Twin lakes. The only downside of fishing here is that the beach goers in the Summer can be annoying when pulling out in the afternoon after a day on the water. They often mill around the launch area or even park their cars in that area, making backing up a trailer a bit tricky. But what do expect from non-boater Knuckleheads ? I just avoid going there on bluebird sky, Summer days.

Situated at the lower end (aka downstream) of the Colebrook River Reservoir and Dam. The West Branch serves as second stage storage for flood control. Over time, this has turned to a Quiet Water for fishing, paddling, and nature observers. Speaking of nature, I had multiple encounters with a couple of Heron that would say Hi and hop upstream to another water side rock, then repeat the process. Better yet! My up-close, but not too close, interview with a young Porcupine. This fella was suspended over the water on a downed birch tree. Likely looking for bugs. Shy though the quills kept me at bay. The West Branch is approximately 200 acres of water surface, which can vary with the seasonal waters. I didn't observe any boats with motors larger than 6-10 HP. A good thing, as there are shallow rocks, but the water can be as deep at 90 feet. I recommend canoeing, kayaking, or a shallow draft boat with minimal horse power & electric trolling motors.

While they were tricky to into their water in a couple, the result was thrilling! I caught 11 fish while my husband only 2, but one of his was a really nice sized trout. Agree with the commenter who said you're treated with respect -- a great experience. And the river and locations are beautiful. First thing we saw was an osprey carrying a trout (spotted by Tristan).

The State Park campsite is one of the best campgrounds in NY State Parks! Newly renovated…read morebathrooms/showers, bright and clean! Each campsite is shaded by tall trees and clearly marked. There are so many activities and attractions nearby for everyone. There are so many different well marked hiking trails with different lengths and everyone can hike based on their own skill levels. The rangers and park officers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They gave us very detailed information about the trails. Definitely recommended to other people and will come back in the near future.

If you're coming to the River Walk through Kent, be prepared to drive for a while to reach the…read moreentrance. Don't worry, you haven't missed it, just keep driving until you see a gate. The parking lot can fit about six, eight cars and is accessible to the water. We walked about forty five minutes down the trail, until the humans decided it had been enough for the little paws accompanying us (even though he would have gone until he collapsed). The trail is gentle, not too many inclines and they're not very steep. It seems mostly shaded by trees on each side, but don't let that stop you from using sunscreen. It's a narrow path so if someone is coming, the polite (and in the case of my hiking companions, the dumb) will walk on the side in the taller, tick inhabited grass. I wish it had points of interest signed, like the foundation we passed about five minutes from the entrance. What was there, and where did it go? Other than great, a great place to bring the dog and walk in peace!

She loved it, except for one small thing…read more- the space it takes for two humans, one lifting medium sized dog, is about the width of the trail over the water and in the swamp. You can take strollers, but it may cause careful maneuvering around each other. The area in general is beautiful and colorful in the fall. In the summer it is bland New England green, and watch out for ticks! The new parking lot is pretty big and gets cars off the road.

This place is so serene!…read more The trail is a 1.2 mile loop; the elevated wooden walkway is built around a pond called "Little Pond". The views of the dense forest and wetland is picturesque. We saw birds and wildlife tracks. The trail also goes of over Bantam river in a couple of spots. There were plenty of parking on the gravel. The sign at the entrance states "White Memorial Boardwalk Parking". First you walk on a flat dirt path and take a right onto the boardwalk, which is marked black and white. There is a huge power line going through the wetland. Some of the boardwalk got narrow in certain spots. We were able to bring our baby stroller on; thankfully it was a jeep offroading one, because there were steps, rocks, and roots in certain areas. We did notice a handful of dog poop baggies on the ground; why would someone bag it and just leave it on the side of the trail? The expectation is to take only pictures and leave only footsteps. How can you pollute such beautiful grounds when you're using it also? Think people..... Aside from that, I love the boardwalk concept. I wish I had this closer to me, I'd definitely be there daily.

There was so many activities for everyone to complete, such as the pine climb, yoga, the pub hike, bloody Mary Bingo, the sky cycle, zip line, archery, and water skiing. All the staff members was very helpful and personable. I love this idea of revisiting summer camp while enjoying some drinks and partying. There are different themes for the camps and they also offer different types of camps like family camps. I would highly recommend getting the drink package. Definitely worth a visit!

Because they have hand soap and the beds sheets aren't the best and the pillows aren't the best and does get hot pretty fast but the food was okay but could be better. But the breakfast is to die for. # Bronx arts charter school for the arts middle and go sign your kids up for this school and elementary it's top notch and thank Lara for your service
