I last stayed at the Du Bois Clarion Hotel in July 2017 when I visited my mom for the last time before her passing a few months later. I reviewed this property then, sharing some nostalgic memories of motels from the 1960s as a child. I once again chose this hotel based on its low price compared to other hotels in the area. I was once again greeted by Eileen, at the front desk. Like my previous visit, she was friendly and welcoming. My room was very comfortable with a nice amount of space to relax in. The king size bed had the sheets turned down and was very inviting for this weary traveler. I was able to tune into a variety of channels on the large, flat screen TV. The dresser that the TV sat on had some kind of spill that should have been cleaned prior to my stay. I used a damp washcloth to easily clean it so I know it was not a permanent stain. The bathroom was clean except for the bathtub mat, which appeared to be covered in dirty soap scum. It needed to be deep cleaned or replaced as I really didn't want to stand on it during my shower. I reported this to the front desk when I checked out so hopefully they took care of it for their next guests. Although the shower head was a water-conserving style from the 1970s, it had nice water pressure so I didn't feel the need to run around in the shower to get wet. The free breakfast included a very pleasant surprise. Along with all the usual cereals, toast, danish, fresh fruit, juices, etc. that you find at just about every motel, I was able to enjoy a fresh-made omelet with ham and vegetables of my choice. There were two small signs in my room that made me smile. One stated that if I forgot an essential toiletry that I could go to the front desk for a complimentary replacement. That is always appreciated. The other sign shows this hotel's commitment to our environment. In an effort to conserve water and energy resources, the towels and linens will be replaced every third day of your stay unless you would like service more frequently. I always thought it was such a waste to have all my towels replaced each day after just one use. Now that won't happen unless I request it. Although I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, I want to point out it is certainly not perfect. While this property first opened as a Holiday Inn in the 1960s and has been updated since then, it is showing its age. There were two different places in the hallway with buckets catching water leaks from the ceiling. However, for the price, you can't expect a gleaming facility like a five-star Hilton! Next time, I'm in Du Bois, I will be staying at this hotel. It is a good value for the money. read more

Incompetent clerk charged me four different times for a one night stay in this dirty, fingerprinted up room. Will never stay here again. The manager, Andy, lied and said he would reimburse me the $30 my bank charged me for overdrafting due to this hotel's billing error. Instead of reimbursement, I got charged again! Now he's denying any knowledge. It's appalling how untrustworthy, and unprofessional people can be. read more

This Clarion Hotel allows pets. However, you also get magnetic door openers that don't function properly, dingy rooms with scuffed walls, wrinkled sheets and pillowcases and the aroma of cigarette smoke out in the halls. We couldn't find another nearby motel that allowed pets, so we stayed. But we won't be back. read more

It wasn't a TERRIBLE experience, but it certainly was---average, at best. The check in process was painfully slow. After being on the road all day, it didn't improve my mood from fighting traffic and foul weather. Probably close to 1/2 hour just to get a room for 2 people. The room was OK. The sheets were a bit worn, but it was clean. The wifi was spotty and on the morning of our departure, down completely, a serious hindrance to anyone trying to do a bit of work that required internet access. Again, not an awful experience, but I'm sure we'll seek something else out next time we're through Dubois. read more

For literally like the second time ever in the history of my world, my fellow yelpers kind of let me down here. I won't hold them personally accountable, but this Clarion Hotel? Nuh uh. Not AOK in my book. And I grew up riding around camping in a conversion van with shag carpet...my standards are fairly simple. (sidenote: why the hell am I in Dubois, PA!? Well, because it's roughly 70 percent of the way from Traverse City, MI to NYC...and driving 16 hours straight drives me insane, and...well. I don't know, we're in Dubois.) 1. The entire hotel REEKS of smoke. Our room was "non-smoking" but the hallways and every area smells heavily of stale cigarettes. Yeck. Even in the room you can still smell it, and it just makes my skin and lungs crawl. 2. Cleanliness: Not so good. Water marks left on the tables, on the notepads, some random liquid "spray" evident on the walls (dear God, please let the people before us be playing with cleaning products or something), and just an overall dingey feel to the place. 3. Low ceilings, outdated decor, room was small. 4. Heat was all screwed up. It was either 90 degrees or 40. 5. Oh, the blankets are thin. Great when it was at 90, not so hot at 40. For $100 in Dubois, PA...I expect a HELL of a lot more than this place. I'd have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express down the way (much newer) in a heartbeat, but unfortunately they were not pet-friendly. Oh, yes. The one bonus of this hotel. It's pet-friendly for $20. And there are many entrances, so you don't have a bunch of cooped-up-in-car dogs meeting in the lobby or anything. There's also a big open run in the back to go for a quick walk in the morning. But frankly, I think my dog would probably give this place 2-stars. She froze on the floor all night because we couldn't figure out the heating situation. One other upside? They share a parking lot with perhaps the kitschiest and most wonderful breakfast place: The Dutch Pantry. Maybe I'll sleep there next time. read more

We thought this hotel was very nice. Room was clean, water in the shower was super-hot, and the bed was about the most comfortable I have ever slept in, seriously. This hotel is in the middle of no where. When you walk in, you catch the smell of a 5 year old smoke smell. Pretty sure, PA just went non smoking not to long ago, or hell, maybe they still have smoking, but this hotel smells like they are trying to cover something up. Any hotel in the middle of no where like this has interesting employees. Not knocking them, but interesting to say the least. The lounge/Restaurant is something to be desired. It is called "Cougars Lounge" I think. When I think of Cougar, I think of a older lady trying to pick up on a young lad. Well, I walked in, and there were two dudes at the bar, with the bartender on her cell phone sitting ACROSS the bar. She hollars at me, " You need something!?!" I asked her if they had any IPA's, she said, yea, 1. Sierra Nevada. I told her I would take one. I was on my phone at the time, checking Yelp, and looked down at my beer and seen it was the Pale Ale. I called her over, off her phone, mind you. And she said, "isn't Pale Ale a IPA?" Anyways, I drank my beer and asked for my check. Maybe employees are hard to come by in DuBois, PA? I looked at the menu and she looked annoyed I even did that. Drank my beer, went to my room and order Chinese. Not bad, not bad at all read more

We found this hotel while on a road trip to another destination when we had car trouble in Dubois. Since the work wouldn't be completed until the next day, AAA found this Clarion hotel for us at a good rate. We liked it enough that we decided to stay a second night and check out nearby Punxsutawney and other places, since the original plans were now scuttled. The room was clean (the most important requirement for me) and the beds were comfortable. Bathroom appeared to be recently refurbished--another plus. Coffee/tea station in the hallway was kept stocked. The front desk clerk was also taking care of the coffee at the time, and was very pleasant. All staff we encountered were friendly. The hotel interior could use some refreshing in places, but for what we needed, we were happy. The independently owned restaurant on the property was a pleasant surprise. We had breakfast there twice, and dinner on our one evening at the hotel--all meals were very good. I was a bit concerned about ordering the fish, but the waitress assured me other guests liked it. The place was nearly empty at the times we were there as it was probably shoulder season; one morning we were the only ones, but service was attentive and friendly. I have to mention the outdoor pool. It was closed when we were there, but it is set within a lovely courtyard. It reminded me of a park, with its birch tree lining and the pool's surrounding brick and stone pavers. Very natural looking and not like a typical hotel concrete patio. read more

This was a really nice hotel. They don't have a continental breakfast, but they do have a restaurant and bar in the hotel that's was open until 2am. The bed was really comfortable, probably more comfortable than mine at home. Also, the have a pet fee per stay of $20 (which at all the other hotels I contacted were $20/night) which was a nice savings. Also, they're installing an outdoor pool right now which will just be an additional perk. read more

Traveling on I-80 and there was an accident with a 3 hr. wait so left the road and found this hotel. Asked if they had rooms and was told so decided to check in. While checking in I mentioned the traffic problem and the front desk clerk said wait a min. She went into a back room and said the price would be $173 which was more than the $73 quoted. I asked why and was told that when a traffic holdup happens they raise the price by $100 because they know lots of people will want to check in. I've never seen such blatant price gouging. I said no thank you and found another hotel. Avoid this hotel at all costs or it will cost you. read more

This could have been a really nice hotel, and it seems like it may have been when it was first opened......now, walking down the hallways, it reeks of smoke, the carpets are stained, the outdoor pool was filthy.....with murky water, tree leaves, and wads of human hair. The room smelled like mold/wet beach towels, and the bathtub was stained. The sink was clean, and there was a decent tv and easy wifi connect, but my comforter had a cigarette hole in it. There is a Holiday Inn, an eighth of a mile down the street, and woulda been worth $50 more a night. I stayed here simply because I had some Choice Hotel points to burn..... read more

Staff was rude and unhelpful. Guys were holding us up for 5 or 6 holes and when I called the club house they said they would send someone out. By the time they got there the young punks wanted to fight me and my son. Instead of repremanding the guys in front of us, they told us to come back to the club house and get a refund. Which was alright with me because we ended up going to another course and having a better time. Nice course but too much drama! read more

We attended a wedding reception at this hotel in the reception hall. I am going to outline what this poor bride and groom had to endure: (1) There was water dripping from the ceiling, and ceiling tiles looked like they were about to fall out because of the amount of water they had absorbed. (2) When the manager was asked if there was anything that could be done to remedy the issue, the manager (I believe his name was Andy?) said, "There are more important things going on in this hotel other than your wedding." (3) There were trash cans in the reception hall that were set out to collect the water that was coming in... the bridal party spent extra time and money to put out decorative bird baths and flower pots in order to replace the trash cans with something more decorative to collect the water. (4) The lights had to be dimmed in order to draw attention away from the [nearly collapsing] ceiling. (5) The "EXIT" signs above most doors were not lit up (6) The air conditioning in the reception hall was not working. (7) Some areas of the hall had to be cleaned by the bridal party in order for it to be usable by the caterer since it seemed the hotel couldn't be bothered to have it cleaned prior to the event. It is important to note that 3 weeks before the wedding (after invitations had already been sent out), a manager had called the couple to ask if they could find a different venue for their wedding... I am assuming the manager new about all of the issues outlined above; however when asking the couple if they could chose a different venue, the manager didn't give a reason. It is also necessary to point out that when the couple booked this venue there were aesthetic issues with the ceiling (water damage), but they were told it was going to be fixed before the wedding reception was to take place.... that obviously did not happen. Luckily, the bride and groom enjoyed their wedding and put everything in the back of their mind. I surely hope they didn't have to pay for a thing when it was all said and done, but I am glad that they didn't let it ruin their day. read more

Just ok. The room was pretty clean, but there was no continental breakfast or a yard or grass for that matter for a pet area. The restaurant has much to be desired. The food is overpriced and was something I could whip up in my kitchen for 10$ less. Our waitress was nice though. read more

This budget hotel suited our needs. The room is clean and very spacious. The beds are comfy. The less than great news is that we were there on Saturday night and the Cougar lounge bass was pounding in our room, # 105, past midnight. Morning brought no breakfast and bitter lukewarm coffee for our trip. read more

Staff was fantastic, bed very comfortable, and surprisingly quiet. Only complaint is that our non-smoking room smelled like air freshner to cover someone's smoke, and became smoke filled either from people outside or people vilolating the non-smoking policy in their hotel rooms. The bathroom was the worst-closed the door overnight and in the morning when we opened it smelled like the smoking lounges at the airport. Couldn't change rooms as our cats had gotten used to the place and didn't want to give them another shock. Was okay for the night, but likely would try to keep driving for the next hotel. read more
