This is my second time visiting. The first time I went, the staff was a little rude but the experience was wonderful. A 1 hour horse ride through the trail where you get full reigns of your horse and even do a little galloping on the ride! On my most recent visit, the staff were very very friendly and helpful! Its under new management and I definitely noticed a difference. A special shout out to the staff member (I forgot her name) who has the long eyelashes and is super funny! On weekdays the ride is $35 per person and the staff pair you with a horse that you would be a good match with. The trail is tranquil and scenic, however make sure you wear repellent because mosquitoes are ruthless (no surprise there). 10/10 recommend. Its a nice break from the city and the horses are super calm and friendly. Side note: I had "Honey" and she is featured in Anne of Green Gables and Handmaids Tale! Good experience with the horses despite the hot weather. The staff were amazing and friendly to all my friends as we booked as a group of over 15 people. They chose horses that match the rider and it worked out great. Don't expect to gallop as this was a basic ride along a trail on their ranch. The staff taught us how to ride and at times we needed to avoid the horses in front making a wc stop along the trail. The horses were good sports letting us ride in the heat but we needed them to keep focus by pulling their head up to avoid stopping to eat grass. As a bonus for a large group, the ranch provided an exclusive area for us to hold a bbq picnic. A good friend brought the grill and we had a delicious meal with burgers, corn and mushrooms. Definitely would recommend the branch for beginners. Will try to find another ride where we can gallop. read more

I have been a customer / rider at Clairville Ranch for literally 30 years. My dad took me here for a trail ride when I was 7 years old and I have been coming ever since. He would take me every weekend and I went to camps and took lessons here as well. I was a member of their Rider's Club for a few years too. Its a beautiful little escape location not far from the city and I have decades worth of happy and wonderful memories here. I've brought my sons here now and they love it too. Called ahead & was told no need to book in advance. Got there the next time slot was full so had to wait an additional hr. Mentioned to the lady in charge how I had called earlier and she basically told me it isn't her problem. Staff was NOT the least bit friendly, or polite. I tried taking a photo of my bf on his horse and was told I was not allowed. I asked if they could take a photo at the end of the ride and was told maybe, if it wasn't busy, The 1st horse I got tried to bite me when I pulled the rein as instructed (they asked you do this so the horses don't eat) Finally after her 4th attempt to bite me I was asked if I wanted to switch horses. The saddle on horse #2 was not on properly which made for a super uncomfortable ride & now had to worry about the fact this horse & the horse in front of me wanted to fight. read more

I've been to Claireville Ranch a few times and I've usually gone away with a smile. This is a nice little break from the regular workweeks we all have. I've always done the 1-hour trail rides and it's been good fun. If the weather permits, we usually end up trotting along the path at a decent speed. The staff is relatively young (teens, early twenties), and their behavior reflects that; not taking any points off for that, it just comes with the territory. I'm here for horseback riding after all. The price point is pretty good, at about $15/person, it's the equivalent of going to the movies, so my wallet stays complacent. Now the reason why Claireville Ranch doesn't get a higher rating is because of the wait times. I'll often come without calling and booking a time slot and this means I could end up waiting for an hour for a free time slot. I've since learned my lesson and I'll often call in advance to ensure no wasted time. All in all, Claireville Ranch is a cool little thing to do instead of the regular affair. TL;DR: A typical horse-back riding ranch, that's not too far from the city. read more

Had a really good ride here. The service was amazing and the trail leader was very friendly and gave us some interesting history about the conservation area as well as the park. A lot of cool sights and we even saw baby deer. Ask about the horses history as well, really cool stuff. Enjoy the relaxing ride. read more

We went early on a Sunday in August. 3 of us went and other people were arriving. They gave lots of instructions and helpful times for first time riders. Our leader/tour guide was a young girl but she really didn't talk much. We went for a very short trot for only a few minutes, which would have liked more of to enjoy the whole feel of riding a horse. So perhaps you should speak up to your guide and ask to trot or even canter? But it was very scenic and enjoyable. The price is good. Would go back again read more

Claireville is very into suggesting you not pre-book a time and instead "just drop right in". I showed up for a ride after work (I'd called ahead, was told the last ride went out at 7 and to come half an hour early), 40 minutes early, and couldn't even get out of the car before we were turned away. We were told the 7pm ride was now too late at night, none of the staff had shown up, and they couldn't possibly tack anymore horses because the group was already leaving. The story then became that the guide could only take 5 people out for insurance reasons. Whatever the excuse, it was incredibly frustrating to drive 45 minutes and be turned away before we could even exit the vehicle. Do NOT listen when they tell you not to book ahead of time. Incredibly disappointed. read more

I very much enjoyed my experience at the Claireville Ranch. Though, it has been a while since I have gone back. The most beautiful experience, our one hour ride seemed short lived as I enjoyed it so much. Our guide was great, she thoroughly explained the rules and tricks to each of our horses. I thought it was fun being able to get familiar with the horse you choose. We began our trail in the woods, mostly learning how to "walk" and "trot", then eventually we hit a open field where we "cantered" our horse down the path. Its a great escape from the city view for an hour. The most upsetting part for me in this whole experience was having to say goodbye to my horse. What I found more beautiful than having experienced riding a horse itself, was being able to watch the horses be let free into the open field at the end of the day (We took our trail on the last hour of the day before sunset). These horses spend all day in the farm pen, mostly working, eating, or resting until dawn. It was such a beautiful experience seeing how happy and free they felt that their work day was finally over. I plan on taking my daughter when she gets older, for $20 an hour ($10 coupon on their website) its definitely something Ill have to cross off my bucket list more than once. read more

Great experience, the horses seemed well trained and the staff knowledgeable. Ask as many questions you want and the staff are more than happy to answer. The breakfast ride was amazing, nothing like breakfast cooked on and open fire- it was so good and we had 2 hrs of riding during this specialty ride. So far I have not been impressed with the fact that they are still holding a deposit that I paid for a photography session and was rescheduled due to the ranch not being able to operate in the rain. They won't refund it but gave the option of a credit to use on a trail ride but everytime I call in they are closed due to rain. I would prefer a refund at this point. read more

I visited the ranch earlier this week, it was my first time and I am a beginner at riding as I assume many people who take trail rides are. I was very excited about this experience, and overall it was enjoyable. The only reason I would consider not going here again is that the staff were very unfriendly and often times very rude, not sure if they were having a bad day or I just caught them at a bad time but my trail guide, was extremely rude, she wasn't speaking loud enough and I couldn't hear anything she said (which at times was very unsafe because I thought I was going to fall off at one point and she didn't seem the least bit concerned). I would recommend that you make sure you have a friendly trail guide before you start or else it will ruin the whole experience as it did for me! Came here with a couple of friends and don't think I would go again unless staff can learn to be a bit more professional and approachable :) read more
