The office staff is good enough, I needed safety glasses, initial appointment was Nov 6, they don't carry safety glasses in the office so I had to wait two weeks for the frames to come in, and they were the wrong ones. So I had to order them again, so after four weeks of not hearing anything I stop in and am told they haven't gotten them yet, it's Dec 20. The best I can get is "I'm not sure ". And if I want my money back I have to do some sort of request to get my money back, they had no trouble charging me. Don't come here, they are terrible. read more

My eyes are a mess. I've had three detached retina operations and both cataract surgeries. As a Trombone player, I have to see my music about 2 1/2 feet to the lower right of my visual plane. No other store has ever gotten it right....not even close, but Alan spent a lot of time giving me extended lens prescription options, which not only vastly improved my general vision, and also created a set of special music glasses that are PERFECT! Alan and his team worked wonders after a less than ideal cataract IOL surgery. Two eye surgeons recommended different lenses, but after talking to me at length, Alan recommended the perfect contact that finally brought that eye into focus. read more

I just left Clair Optical for good. She wanted to nickel and dime me for a failed nose pad on a pair of frames I've had for a year. She wasn't friendly, insinuated that it was my fault and instead I had to pay for a glass frame part that failed on frames I've had to get repaired twice. I will never go anywhere else! This review is about a month over due. I purchased some contacts for my daughter and when they arrived they were the wrong brand. I called the office to let them know and Alan ordered us the right ones and he also PERSONALLY drove to my house and brought us some contacts to get us by until the new ones came in! I had just come from a hellish visit with an optometrist, so to get great customer service AND a genuine smile restored my faith in people. I don't get out much, so it's very nice to be treated like I matter once in a while. They have great prices on contacts and are very helpful choose the best option. I may even buy a pair of glasses soon. *updated: I only took a star off because I moved money to my account to pay for my contacts after my trial pairs, and it was more than what was quoted. Just picked up my new glasses today. They are exactly as Alan the owner described. They have been repairing my old pair for a couple of years. These are no line photo gradient with the Crizal coating. They do take some getting used to but I do not have to take my glasses off any more. Alan is the most knowledgeable optician I have run across in Salt Lake City. A very good 'splainer. The best I have run into so far here. My glasses have always been repaired in prompt fashion. My least traumatic glasses purchase since moving back. Excellent experience in every way. Haven't been able to get any glasses that worked very well for several years, despite trying optical section at doc's office, large and small chains, and the big box. Owner Dr. Alan Seyboldt understood my specific eye situation, assured me he could make glasses that would actually do what I need. I couldn't go to his store for medical reasons, so he came to my house, no extra charge! He had me put on different trial glasses for my normal vision tasks (computer, reading, outdoors, etc) to double check everything. The products are great. BUT unless you're dealing with the owner, be prepared for a lousy customer service adventure. He's hired a bunch of women and the only one that's actually nice is rarely there. Pretty annoyed with my last visit where no one told me I'd have to leave my current glasses behind, so I don't know until 3 days later, and couldn't get anyone to set me up to meet with the owner about tinting my sunglasses further because they were confused as to what I was talking about even though I'd discussed it WITH HIM. My wife has had bad eyes since birth. She had LASIK surgery, which improved her vision but then had touch up LASIK and the corneas were messed up. She basically hasn't been able to see the first row on the eye chart in one eye and the third row in the other eye. Multiple eye doctors tried to provide soft contacts and glasses that just wouldn't help because her corneas were too flat. She felt hopeless and was sure she'd never see well enough to really use the computer or to drive at night again. We heard about Clair Optical and Alan S from an eye doctor and he has truly been a life saver for my wife and me. I love this place. The selection of frames and lenses is great but what really sets it apart is the staff and level of service they provide. I love going in and seeing the same familiar faces and they are always so kind and helpful. They always go out of their way to make sure the needs of their customers are taken care of. For example, the last time I needed to place an order it turned out I needed to sample some contacts before placing the order. The problem was I had just given birth to a new baby a few days beforehand and wasn't able to make it in to pick up the samples. To my surprise and delight, Alan and his wife offered to drop the samples off at my house that very same evening. Who does that kind of stuff anymore?! I was so grateful and impressed. My son sat on my glasses, and I needed some help to keep them working. When I stopped in, I received attention from everyone there! They took time to figure out what was needed to keep my glasses in working order, doing many processes and adjusting them. I am very grateful because I would not have my glasses without them. They offered their services, but were very willing to go to lengths to save my glasses when I said that I could not presently afford new ones.
