We decided while on the island to book a 2 hour horse riding experience. Neither one of us have been on a horse for many years. They provided a good video that went over horse safety and the basics that we had to watch before we arrived. The ranch is absolutely beautiful. We saw a bunch of Nene's which was cool. The ride was really awesome, it's a slow walk but I think 2 hours was the perfect amount of time. I rode John and my husband rode Thor. First time here. FYI There is an approximate mile of dirt pothole driving to get to the ranch. HOWEVER, The ranch is beautiful and well kept. We had Wil as our guide and he was a gem! Very pleased and grateful to have a genuinely kind and caring soul who loves what he does and kept safety #1! Wil was very knowledgeable and even educated us on some Kauai island history. We loved the ride on and views of the ocean. We even saw whales off in the distance. Wil took the time and cared enough to make sure we were all taken care of and got great photos. What an amazing morning ride! Peter was an awesome guide and Brittany and Jim were fabulous upon arrival. A little over 2 hours of riding in both the mountains and the coast line with absolutely breathtaking views. Peter checked every rider along the way for confidence, safety, and comfort. He was so nice and even chatted up our quiet 10 year old rider the whole time about her experience riding back home in Wisconsin. We had time to stop and take photos, take a water break, and learned about the beautiful island of Kauai along the way. We had such an amazing time on our ride! The views were gorgeous and our guide, Will, was absolutely awesome. We told Will about our previous horseback riding experience which ended terribly, and he went above and beyond to ensure our ride was comfortable and safe the entire time. Such a great way to spend a good part of the day on the island. We went late in late August. Very tame and gentle horses, though they do try to eat the grass and get more assertive if you let them eat! Make sure to bring closed toe shoes. They have spare riding boots available for free but new socks are available for small fee. They provide you with a riding bag you can safely store your belongings while you ride. Most parts were unshaded, be sure to have sun protection! These horses are so sweet--our group got Ladybird, Pistol, and Champ. read more

Everyone in my family had a wonderful experience horseback riding, except my son. He was pretty miserable. It was apparent the horses were well taken care of. The procedure and process to prep all of the riders were pretty clear and easy to follow. The ride itself was beautiful. The best part was riding along the beach. Once we reached the top, our guide took family pictures of us on our horses. At the end of the ride, we were able to dismount our horses and then were able to walk them to get water. This is our 6th trip to Kauai but had yet to ride horses. We had a Friday 2pm ride. We arrived at about 1:30 as it was just down the rode from our rental house. We were greeted by Jimmy. Funny and so sweet. It was me, hubby and my 2 older teen sons, one of whom is autistic and has verbal stims. Jimmy was so sweet with him and assured me my son was in good hands and understanding of his needs. He gave him a gentle horse...and the horse was great with his stims. Will was our trail boss and took his lead to ensure he would enjoy the ride. My son didn't quite understand the "steering" but Will recognized he needed help and took him under his wing. The rest of the 2 hour ride was relaxing for us all. The scenery was gorgeous, the weather and winds made the trail perfect and our horses were calm and silly. I'm horrible with names for people so remembering the name of my own horse is impossible but was told he was a toddler so to direct him. After about 20 minutes, him and I were besties. My son's horses were also sweet and gentle with them. I honestly wish we could do it again. Definitely next year!! I also grabbed a leaf of Aloe in front of the stables at Jimmy's suggestion for my sunburn from days prior. I'm already feeling better! I will forever suggest these guys for horseback riding on Kauai. It really does show the kind of people who work there when they care for your special needs son just as much as you. Absolutely do not leave Kauai without going on a horse ride from CJM Country Stables. My daughter and I were on a hike and we passed by Jimmy (Owner) on his horse. He was so friendly to us that we looked on google maps to see which Horse Ranch was nearby and we booked our rides. We were subdivided into smaller groups so our guide, Greg, led 7 of us on the tour. All the horses were gentle and were well trained to follow the trail. I loved the mix of greenery/foliage/trees and views of the coast and beach. We stopped about midway for a group photo so make sure someone from your party has a camera. After his intro and instructions he pairs each rider to a horse. He really knows what he is doing. My chestnut mare, HoneyLove had her opinions, give me my face and let me do my thing! She was great with leg queues so there was no need to rein her. All the horses are healthy, clean and trained. The scenery is unmatched. Trail is well maintained. Ample picture opportunities. I still don't know why I choose horse back riding, I have very little confidence on those magnificent creatures. Yet I still sign up for the adventures! Based on reviews and the price this trip was well worth it. First off they are very welcoming and match you to a horse based on experience. They also tell you the character of the horse and what they don't like, so you are aware of situations. Of course with my little confidence they put me right behind the Wrangler, and thankful for that. Although I forgot his name, he was one of the old timers, entertaining and full of knowledge. The views are amazing so make sure you have lots of battery to take in all the photo opportunities. The ride I signed up for 1pm-4 tour, and to my surprise we didn't return until 5pm. Greeted by the owner with a laugh that he brought us back an hour early it was greatly appreciated. There is little to no phone reception along the way so it's nice to be out of reach as to not ruin the experience. We were given a turkey lunch/chips/POG juice/brownie, however the kids that were riding ate everyone's . They packed sauce/lettuce/tomato separately so you can customize it yourself. We all sat around the picnic table and enjoyed stories told by the Wrangler about bull riding, and life. The tour goes from the stables up a trail above the ocean and down to a secret beach where we ate. From there we went back along another trail which led down to the beach were we rode along the shore line. At one point they do allow a trot, however I think because I freaked out the Wrangler stopped it. Unfortunately I was riding with those who rode alot, so they may have been disappointed as well as the horses. The horses are well trained with their own personalities and they knew they were supposed to be able to trot and seemed a bit restless on the way back. Sorry group! We tipped our Wrangler in appreciation for such a great tour. Highly recommend these guys! read more

Highly recommend this stable. We did the 2p ride with Robert and had the best time. This is a great way to see some beautiful parts of Kauai. The beach portion of the ride was my favorite. Our guide was knowledgeable and professional. The horses at this stable are very obviously well cared for. They get a wash down after returning and put to pasture, I also liked that they cycle the horses instead of making the same 12 do the morning and afternoon rides. We had Thor and Sergeant and they were experts. Knew exactly where to go. If you're looking for a chill activity this should be on your list! read more

Fun and scenic! Russel was a great horse wrangler and tour guide. Their whole staff is very kind and fun. Our family booked in advance and owner was very helpful in the process. The views were amazing and the ride was enjoyable for our family. I wish there were more beach trails but the accessible coastline is limited. It's sprinkled on the ride but it was nice. TIP: Go early and visit the Cave near the horse trail before hand. If you park at the stables and hike to the cave it takes about 25 minutes and it's beautiful. read more
