I searched…read morefor several months to find a portable sawmill operator to cut the logs to dimensional lumber, but could not find a reliable crew (someone who would return calls or actually come on site to give me an estimate). Finally in late September I found Abba and Sons. Gene and his crew were extremely responsive and came out to my property to give me an estimate, which I thought was very fair. To stay on budget, we agreed to have his crew cut as much lumber as they could over 4 weeks. Over that time they were able to create two stickered stacks of hardwoods, mainly hickory, maple and oak and one with softwoods, mostly poplar and pine. We got dozens of 6x6 and 4x4 posts 12-15 feet long, as well as tons of 2 1/4 inch slabs for future flooring projects. There were also dozens of character slabs which I'll dry and figure out how to use - perhaps some nice tables and benches. Gene and his crew work very hard and do not cut corners. They made sure everything went smoothly with minimal disruption to my property. If you have some logs on your property that might be useful as lumber, please give Abba and Sons a call. He justified a higher price by guaranteeing he would be on time and he would be there to check the workers work. I had high hopes that I could leave the job up to him. I couldn't. I had to check on his work regularly because I found he didn't visit often and new crews would do different parts of the job and leave details undone. The job was finished later than expected which calls into question the higher price. The actual workers were great. Excellent actually. But the management of my job was pitiful, I'm sorry to say, Because everyone was very kind. Unfortunately, I will not use them again and would recommend looking elsewhere for a contractor that can manage jobs appropriately. From what I heard he had to much going on. My advice for this company is to take on less projects and do each job like it's for your mother. Be detail oriented, communicate a lot, and visit the property often to check the progress.

The first person they sent was an older gentleman who was unprofessional and unable to handle the job. The second time, they sent a man and his niece, who took three days to complete the work and caused significant property damage. The niece, who was not qualified, struggled to hold the mirror and almost dropped it on my husband while he and my mom stepped in to help. Instead of assisting, she just stood there watching. They worked sloppily, dropped tools on my engineered wood floors, and generally lacked the skill to do the job properly. When I disputed the charge with Fixttman, they threatened to come after me for the money, even though I needed to hire drywallers and painters to repair the damage they caused. One subcontractor even threatened to enter my home with three men, forcing me to call the police. On top of that, a Fixttman agent also threatened me. This company operates fraudulently, hires unprofessional workers, and offshores their customer service calls to agents who falsely represent the company as legitimate. In reality, it's just someone in Texas hiring unqualified workers and overcharging customers. They also tack on hidden fees, despite their workers being unprofessional and unskilled. Avoid this company at all costs, especially Justin from Nix Constructions. -responding to the owner who also threatened me, -the crew smelled strongly of marujana. -the had changes, because the put the rod in the second room without asking which height, just assumed it was the first room height. -secondly had no level so their work was never was straight (admittedly, some ceiling was not leveled) but if he's an expert he would know how to adjust accordingly. every time I would come into the room the brackets are not straight. they still are not! -the drywall patch they used gun caulk, which I provided for them, and did not sand or paint before leaving, even though he said he would. Fair warning: this company is a fraud do not use them Even the police, when they came to see the work, when I called them after the threats I received from both Justin and the company, said that the work was pretty bad. -I paid Justin full price for the artwork, I asked him to hang it via Zelle. no one is running away from payment, but you do not under any circumstances pay for bad work. -if this company was legit, they would acknowledge the bad work, instead of asking for payment -The technician spent 3 days because he had an untrained niece with him. She was helpful and wrote down a quote on the back of her business card of $1950 based on the cabinet drawings from the cabinetmaker. It included shelf brackets, a built sink, and backsplash. A person has to come out and verify measurements after the counters are built and installed. We scheduled a time based on the cabinetmaker's schedule, and that went smoothly. The measurer calculated 6 square feet more than what Lavivia and I separately had measured. A few days later she sent a quote for $3200 and said I needed to submit a $1600 immediately to get the project on her schedule. I emailed her back wanting to understand the more than $1200 price difference. After a day of no response I called her and left a message asking the same. I gave her another 24 hour, then decided to search elsewhere. I never heard back from her. Most people, I expect, don't have time to start over, so I expect they're use to getting away with this technique, but I had started early in the project. I went to Home Depot and started the process over. I chose the same product and gave them the cabinetmaker's drawings. They came up with the same measurement I and Lavivia had to begin with. The price was reasonable at around $2100. I said let's do it. She said Sims would have to come out and verify. I was stunned. I told they had already, and told her the story. I then gave her the formal quote from them to make sure we had apples to apples so they couldn't try to raise the price, even using their measurer's figure. The price went up to $2300, but I was still good. So, Sims called in a few days to send someone to measure. I told them their guy already had, and the story. They adamantly said it was going to cost a lot more than that, because I went to a third party. I said, whatever, do you need to come measure again? They said they could use the one they had done. I thought they were done with me, but a week later I called Home Depot to check on the project. Home Depot checked and said it was in production and would be installed on Monday. Installation went well. Lavivia's original estimate included counter brackets to hold the overhang, but that dropped off, so I ordered those separately and had installed them myself. After the install, a rep from Home Depot came by my house to check to see if installation had gone smoothly. I said it did, then told him my story. He said if I used the online template and got charged for more material than was installed, Home Depot would refund that part. I said yeah! I went by the store then emailed the Home Depot rep about having them explain why the measurer got 6 more square feet than we. Sims finally sent the measurer's template he had drawn out, then, in a separate email the numbers he used to calculate square footage. Sure enough, he had counted the overlap corner twice, 6 square feet. I emailed Home Depot rep saying that didn't seem right. This whole things is about ethics. Sims is out for as much money as they can take you for. I guess I looked naive and gullible. I didn't get the card of the Home Depot rep who stopped by the installation day ( the store person didn't know who it could be), otherwise I'd pursue getting a refund for the overmeasured amount.
