stranger attempting to open our door

I probably wouldn't recommend it here unless you're really on a budget. We moved here because it was cheap and you just get what you paid for. The only thing included in rent is parking, and Parking is almost always an issue, it's absolutely horrible. our carport constantly gets blocked by a car, never any open spots after 6pm, have to park across the street outside the complex very often The gym is clean but small and there are not even any free weights. No hot tub and only one pool. Dog owners often dont pick up their dog's poop. The air flow in our apartment is really bad. Mold growing in bathroom. Even behind the shower walls because theyre hollow inside. Run the water on one of the cracks and mold flows all thru the tub. All of the "new" renovations are extremely rushed and seem cheaply executed. Street noise can get bad, numerous cars honking every day because of a risky intersection to downtown, and it's right by the fire department. shared laundry room has had plenty of issues. No one gets their clothes on time, machines down, dryer has ruined several of our loads. trash cans are often overfilled or even spilled over the floor. dumpsters get filthy as well with trash laying next to them.i will say though it has gotten a little better but there are times where the bags are busted open all over the for. I've seen 2 dead rats outside of our apartment, two alive ones running around in the morning. Roaches have gotten inside our apartment as well. Even seen one inside one of the washing machines which was disgusting. We have a ring camera and have footage of people attempting to open our door and our neighbors door, hoping one of them were unlocked. Made us feel extremely unsafe. Water has been shut off like 3-4 times since we've been here (hasn't been a year yet). All of these things aren't severe enough to make us break our lease. The place is still bearable. Just a far warning to new comers that it is not, at all, luxurious. I've seen way worse, but its just not great. on the good side, dog friendly with no restrictions, conveniently located next to downtown, raleys and safeway, safeway's gas is cheap

Us cleaning the caked on mold at the bottom of the door frame that the maintenance man said was paint.

So so bad. Horrible management. Worst apartment we've ever lived in. Parking is a joke. Allegedly no guests can park on site but there's always people parking in open spots that don't have the parking tag. There is never any parking for real residents. If you're brave enough to take the open spot by the dumpsters good luck! There's rats around the dumpster area because people leave the trash area disgusting and nothing is ever done about it. Management is HORRIBLE. They literally ignore and avoid you if you bring up any type of issue. Even if you call they never pick up and it goes straight to "mailbox is full". If you do manage to get a hold of someone they just give you the run around or tell you they'll get back to you and never do. They're almost never in office either. If there is someone there and you ask to speak to the manager, they will tell you she's either "sick" or "works from home" so she can't see you. All of the other neighbors we've vented to about management and the bad living conditions agree and say management is terrible. There have been multiple times upon move out where we had scheduled inspections/walk throughs at the managements discretion to complete the move out process. The first time I waited for over half an hour for them to come and when they didn't show up I had to call over and over until I got through to someone, then they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about and that it was a mistake. The second time was for the final move out inspection, we filled out the paperwork to schedule a time and date for the inspection. Only to go into the office that day and for them to say "we don't do inspections on weekends". So unprofessional and inconsiderate to our time. Nowhere on the paperwork does it state days you can't do an inspection and if they would've looked over the form we filled out and saw it was on a weekend, they should've contacted us saying we couldn't do it on that day. One time we put in a work order about mold that had been there when we moved in and the maintenance man said it was just paint, that all of the apartments had it and left. LMAO we had to clean it ourselves so we wouldn't continue inhaling it. We were experiencing breathing problems for the amount of time living there and once we moved into a different apartment complex all together, our symptoms have subsided. There's constantly people blasting music and revving their engines no matter the time of day, and you can hear it so clear because the windows aren't double pane and the walls are super thin. Finally after our move over a month had passed and the stress from this place still wasn't over because turns out they never approved our security deposit refund. They said it'd take a couple weeks but once it was past a month of not receiving anything we finally called the service number for the security deposit refund company. They had said they have no approval from the apartment complex and we need to contact them to ask about the approval so we can receive our refund. A whole month of waiting all to find out they haven't done their part in order for us to get our security deposit back!! We have tried calling and of course. No answer. It's literally a nightmare to live here I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy it's so horrible. Do yourself a favor and avoid it at all cost. I promise you it's not worth the stress.

a roach on our kitchen blinds

Why can't we give zero stars? This place is horrible. The short version- DON'T MOVE HERE. Here's the long version: First of all, we were shown a renovated unit that looked NOTHING like where we were placed. Management told us that our unit was not renovated; however, they didn't clarify how radically poor our actual apartment would actually be. My husband, baby, and I moved in July of this year. Within the first couple of days, we noticed roaches, spiders, and other indicators of our apartment being infested. We found roaches in our kitchen, refrigerator, bathroom, and bedrooms. My daughter was learning how to walk and was still crawling, and she would encounter roaches on our floor every day. I woke up with a roach on my face, found one on my leg while cooking, roaches on our countertops, blinds, cabinets, and spiders would get in our food while we cooked since they infested our stove. It was the most disgusting and traumatic living experience I have ever had- and this place isn't cheap! After the complex had its pest control service spray the unit a couple of times, we finally decided to call Alameda County to inspect our unit. They confirmed a German roach infestation and said that spraying the unit was useless, since they need further procedures to get rid of them. Civic Square didn't care- they continued to insist on spraying the unit to remedy the problem. We finally moved into a hotel the night that we found maggots in our bathtub. I went to prep the tub for my daughter, and 5 live maggots were crawling around. There is no way our family can stay- we booked a hotel for the night and stayed there for a week before having to move in with family. The trouble that Civic Square has caused us is beyond what can be written in a review. My husband now has to commute an hour to work. We've lost hundreds of dollars on groceries since all of our food had to be trashed due to the roach infestation. We have had to pay for a storage unit, pay for moving costs, disinfect ALL items from our apartment to prevent roach contamination, and so much more. We sent emails and letters to keep open communication with them, but NOTHING- they are now ignoring our calls. We want clarity about our lease and reimbursement for what we have had to pay- and we just want to move on with our lives. My peace of mind is shattered. This place put my family out of our home. Civic Square, what you have done to my family is an injustice. Thanks for reading a REAL review, and DO NOT MOVE HERE!

Trash/messy

Worst apartment complex I've lived in. Dont live here! Management always giving you the run around . they say they want to help but they don't trust me. The place is dirty and the buildings are squeaky and loud. If you unfortunately have to live here I advise you to live upstairs and you be the one to bother instead of getting bothered lol people are inconsiderate anyways. I chose to live downstairs thinking I have a dog and a baby on the way its best so that we dont disrupt our upstairs neighbors lmao! such bad call. there are multiple families living in one apartment and make noise at different hours of time. also, I swear to you im not making this up, there are guys that pee almost right at your door! yes! guys peeing outside the apartment its outragious. thankfully my contract is almost over and then were out of here thank god.

Paying for a parking spot you can't use. The "24/7" security ignored our 8 phone calls.

Ask the Community - Civic Square Apartments

I live in a one bed. Not enough space. Would love to move into a two bed. Would civic square accommodate this without incurring charges related to lease terms or other surprises?

I believe it's a $2,000 transfer fee

Since I moved in we've had a handful of new managers, but if you never saw their faces you'd never know that the continuity of service has changed so many hands. From Jessica to Hannah, Xavier to Camille, the service has been nothing short of what you should feel entitled to when you choose where to call home. The leasing office is "home" first, but business always, which means Rose and Robbie remember your name, your neighbors dog, and could probably tell you the decorations you used in the clubhouse last year, but if you're obnoxiously loud and the neighbors complain (which they rarely do) everyone gets a phone call, because they genuinely care. The Maintenance team is unrivaled, and work orders, always minor and infrequent, almost always happen same day for anything needing address. There is always parking on the square for guests (we use our garages or the resident parking lot), the grounds are always manicured, dogs are walked on leashes, and masks are required in common areas. We have elevators in every building, a community garden (reservations needed), an Amazon locker, online amenity system, and we're next door to a Safeway complex. We even get a special weekly treat on Wednesdays just for being residents. My neighbors have become my friends and I love where I live. I've been in Pleasanton for 20 years now, but The Mason Flats at Township Square is home, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

In the first unit, the floors were paper thin and my upstairs neighbor kept waking me up. There was almost no natural light because a tree blocked the view. I emailed about it for a month, before management said a transfer might be possible, but it would cost $3,100 plus $250 more per month, including $50 (additional) for parking and about $200 extra in rent. I used the last of my savings to transfer for the sake of my health. The new unit has 8 HVAC units directly above the bedroom - I wasn't made aware of this prior to my moving in, and I wasn't allowed to tour the new unit either. The vibrations are so strong they rattle the walls and ceiling, and not even AirPods Pro ANC block them. They go off anywhere from once an hour to constantly, and because there are 8 of them, they all make different, unpredictable noises. Some sound like slow deep bass that can be felt in the bones while others make rapid whirring noises like a washing machine. It is impossible to sleep - I have been sleeping in my car since I moved here. I paid a $3100 transfer fee and am now paying $2600 a month to sleep in my car. I've submitted numerous normal and emergency maintenance requests and contacted management repeatedly about this issue. I have documented many recordings of the noise, including timestamps and proof of volumes above habitable levels, and have provided them upon request. Maintenance agreed that the vibrations and noise are unusual, and the layout of having 8 HVACs on one unit was strange, and they've tried a couple different fixes - unfortunately, none of which have worked. The sleep deprivation has made me sick on multiple occasions, and I have been in the ER. Management is now asking me to pay a lease break fee to leave, despite the hazardous situation and clear health impact. I have explained that I cannot afford this and have tried to follow up repeatedly, but I have not received a response in over a week and cannot reach anyone by phone, through email, or in person. I think Simone and Xiena are genuinely friendly people who try their best to communicate with renters, but management as a whole is very difficult to reach. This experience has caused me so much anxiety and deteriorated my mental and physical health.
