I read that this tour is out of business but I thought I saw one bus a couple of weeks ago. I had a TERRIBLE experience with this company. I was waiting at the marked spot for the bus stop and the driver drove past us and we had to chase down the bus before we missed it again. I had to call the company while running and they got a hold of the bus driver to let her know what happened. She opened the door and started yelling at us that we missed the bus and she shouldn't be stopping at where we caught the bus. We also got left on the bus (I kid you not) while the bus driver went inside a hotel for about 10 minutes. He didn't warn us or anything. He just turned off the bus and left. This is by far the worst tour experience ever and I will never go through this company again. Side comment: I needed to find the Big Bus stop in NYC and asked a Citysights person the location and he was completely rude when he found out that we weren't with his tour company. read more

We just finished the Bureau of Engraving and Printing tour and had no clue what to do next. We looked across the street and saw the City Sights DC hop on/ hop off tour bus. We waved and Patrick beckoned us to cross the street. How much? we asked. Hop on and I'll tell you, Patrick said (probably because he was on a time schedule) He drove to the next stop and gave us the run down. We told him we had only 1 day, so he said its $48 for 1 day, good until 5:00 pm. We can go around any loop as much as we want. He said the 2 day pass is a better deal, and I think it was $5 more. It was cold outside, and so we decided why not! We shelled out $48 each and I made a bee line for the upper level, which I found out was COVERED! Woohoo! Excellent way to see the city and not freeze in the DC cold. The dome was a bit scratched up, which made some of my photos look grainy, but it gave me an idea where I wanted to "hop off" to take better ones. The loop took about 1 1/2 hours, and they give you headsets to listen to the recorded tour. We took a complete circle to see what the tour stops were. Patrick was an excellent driver, and slowed down so we could get that Kodak moment. I don't know how much other bus tours charged, but the upper deck was covered, and I noticed their competitor was not. $48 seemed steep, but in a tourist town, what do you expect? read more

So the only reason I gave this tour company 2 stars is that the last tour guide, Derek, did a great job. He was professional, articulate, knowledgeable, and entertaining. One bus we went on didn't have a tour guide and the driver wasn't able to provide any other information. Product: Night Tour of DC for Two People We bought our tickets from Groupon the night before we went on the tour. Buildings in DC are big and slightly intimidating and we were so tired of walking long distance. The Groupon price was reasonable. Well, the instructions from Groupon weren't very clear so we had to ask someone to point us out where we needed to check in. The ticket agent redeemed our Groupon from the code and gave us a pink ticket slip. The bus arrived around 6:10 pm. We boarded the bus after the prior group had gotten off. We were given pairs of headphones which did not work very well. There were a lot of interferences. The bus driver checked with us whether the headphones were working. Other passengers seemed to have the same problem. The bus left 10 minutes late. Since there was no reservation, the bus was almost full and we had to wait on the last group to decide. There was not enough room for the entire group so they decided not to join us after 10 minutes. The tour guide has a British accent. He was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained during our entire trip. It was very windy on the upper deck. A jacket, a hat, and a scarf were needed to keep us from freezing. The weather was in the 50-60 ish. The tour was very much as described in the brochure. We got the brochure from the Union Station. However, the bus accidentally stopped in the middle of the dark, quiet Arlington National Cemetery for a few seconds. On the way back, out tour guide allowed passengers to get off along the way to Union Station. To be honest, we believe that our legs couldn't bring us that far and are glad that we went on the tour. We are impressed by helpful, friendly staff. We hope that the bus will be more on time and that the audio system will be improved. read more

I'm giving this tour 2 stars because our tour guide seemed like a nice enough guy BUT it took 4 calls to finally get through to ask about reservations (there are none), an extraordinarily long time to redeem the vouchers and a HUGE line to get onto poorly maintained buses that smell of exhaust. Then the tour guide. . . FAKE FACTS!!!! And on top of that, he sounded like he was just following his stream of consciousness while we were just along for the ride. The guy was amusing enough at first but after a while, we felt like a captive audience on an advertising junket for local restaurants. My siblings and I recently went on the Night Tour and did not have a good time. Our tour guide seemed jaded, and completely uninterested in everything he was talking about. We had been on several other tours already, and had some wonderful/funny/excited guides, so it was extremely disappointing to have a guide that hated his job so much and so obviously. In addition to the lack of entertainment, we kept getting hit by tree branches when we were sitting on the double decker and we also got rained on. Fortunately, the tour guide did pass out plastic rain ponchos. To be clear, I'm not suggesting the tree branches in our faces and the falling of rain were their "fault" but those experiences added salt to the wound. Not the best tour for sure. Guide seemed funny and entertaining but didn't care at all that people in the back were not getting enough volume even though we kept signaling to turn it up, so we missed almost everything she was saying. Then, after the first hop-off, we had to wait 45 mins for bus to pick up when supposedly they should come every 20 mins. About 3 Big buses came and we were still waiting for City Sights. I guess if your looking to stay on the bus during all the loop and just look at the sights, and don't care about what the guide says, then it's a good tour. read more

If it were possible to give a rating of -0 I sure would do that! I paid the $39 to get on the bus not knowing or being told there was no air conditioning on the bus. I stepped on the bus to find a sweltering temperature of over 90 degrees and extremely humid. I started sweating immediately and started to feel dizzy. I got off the bus...never rode anywhere, went back inside and asked for a refund. I asked the sales associate why she didn't disclose there was no aircon and she just shrugged her shoulders. The customer service was HORRIBLE. The company denied my claim for a refund even though I rode 0 miles on the bus. My hope is that anyone who reads this post will not choose City Sights as a carrier and PLEASE tell your friends. I am including my response to them from their email denying my claim. Don't know why I didn't check Yelp before buying that tempting GroupOn for the night tour of DC. My wife and I have been to DC several times, but made this trip specifically to see the Cherry Blossoms - yep, the first and only year anyone could remember that they didn't and probably wouldn't bloom because of the recent storms/cold snap. One of the things we planned to do that we had never done before to make up for the lack of blossomization was a night tour. We booked our trip in advance with CitySights. I think it was about 38F that night and sprinkling, so it was recommended - and seemed sensible -that we line up early and get one of the few indoor seats. Done. We quickly realized that the 10 or so indoor seats, all on the lower level, were worthless because of a graphic they had applied over all the windows. A bus wrap of George Washington, perforated though it was, did not allow any view at all. Then after we stopped at the Lincoln Memorial they restarted the bus and the headlights and dashlights went out. We were game for at least having them drive us carefully back to Union Station. Surprised that they kept going and headed up the unlit roads to the Iwo Jima memorial. THAT inspired our first Uber ever. We bailed. Bad bus because of graphics. Bad driver for continuing without headlights. Bad experience. read more

Sure wish I had read the reviews before booking this company! They over booked the night. They only have 5 buses, but booked 8?! We waited in line for over an hour and a half, finally got on the bus and our tour was cut short. The 3 hour tour was cut short 45 minutes and one of the get off stops was cut. And we were rushed at the two stops. Tour guide was nice, but the customer service was HORRIBLE! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS TOUR!!! there any tons of other great bus tours! UPDATE: I sent an email to the company, calmly explaining what happened and how disappointed I was. . .I am happy to say I received a 100% refund! Some positives about the tour: the tour guide was friendly and the bus was clean. But I don't think I would use them again, even in another city. read more

Big fat ZERO stars if possible. This was the worst the bus tour experience I ever had. It was a hot 90 degree day in the middle of July. Since all the bus tour companies are double deckers, you assume they are air conditioned. Especially with children and older folk touring. But NO! this was not the case and was absolutely not mentioned on the website. I think most passengers got heat stroke or exhaustion that day from being out in the sweltering sun. I know I was def dehydrated as I was sweating my metaphorical b***s off. And don't even get me started on the misleading website. They describe different tours in one short paragraph then go on to list ALL the add-ons that are not actually included in the selected package, thus making you believe they are included. When in fact they are not. Plus, they don't note that they're for different packages. That's the definition of false advertising! Needless to say, we had an awful time and could not even make it to all the monuments due to the bus not being timely even thought we started at 9am-ish. We also missed a few stops along the way since their system of communicating stops with the host (if one was even on board) consisted of shouting up the stairs. Given all the issues and dislike from Yelpers and reviewers in general across the web, I can't even understand how they're still in business. We bought a 48 hour ticket. We went on the 3pm day tour with Jaunte (? Spelling?). Then we stopped back at Penn Station and went on the night time tour. Jaunte was the guide for both tours. He was very informative, obviously intelligent and knowledgeable about Washington. We enjoyed both. We would give 5 stars except for 2 reasons. It was not necessary for him to insult those on the trip who were not voting for his candidate for president. Also MANY of the plugs for the earphones did not work at all. read more

We took a vacation to Washington D.C. in July. One segment on the City Sights DC bus was enough for us. We called their customer service line and were told to stop riding the bus, write a letter, and include our tickets in the envelope. So we did. This is our letter: "While on a recent trip to Washington D.C., we purchased tickets to ride the City Sights D.C. tour buses. Based on word of mouth and advertising, we thought your service would provide us access to popular sights that would be both convenient and informative. We're sorry to say we didn't receive either of those benefits. We rode a City Sights D.C. tour bus one time on July 16th, 2015. Immediately after, we reported the experience to your customer service. Following their advice, we're also sending you our tickets and a list of complaints. Our ride from Arlington National Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial took nearly an hour, a mere six miles and with light traffic. We got on the bus at 3:30 EST and were finally dropped off just before 4:30 EST. While on that route, we sat at the Pentagon City stop in the hot sun for at least 20 minutes. While stopped for those 20 minutes, we asked the driver and three other workers for an explanation. We were rudely told the bus was required to stay there until 4pm to wait for people who may want to ride, because this was one of the last buses for the day. There would have been no explanation had we not directly asked. The bus had no air conditioning on the bottom level. This wasn't an issue while moving, but the temperature and humidity was stifling when the bus sat idle for long stretches of time. Our attendants offered no headphones and would not narrate the tour. When we asked for headphones/narration, we were rudely told the bus was almost to the next stop anyway. So we rode in silence. While riding, there was at least one hard stop that caused people's belongings to fly. We're surprised there were no injuries. No explanation or apology from the driver. We understand that traffic and scheduling can cause delays. However, we don't understand the poor level of service by the driver and bus attendants on our bus. They showed more interest in their personal cell phones than in providing any value to our tour. Your website and pamphlet state the buses do not run past 5pm, though we saw at least two City Sights D.C. buses after 5pm that were carrying passengers and had staff up top providing narration. During our vacation, we noticed other tour bus companies with more frequent stops and ongoing narration. We were disappointed that your service left us sitting on the side of the road while your competitors drove by every few minutes. As we mentioned in the beginning of the letter, we decided it was best to leave the bus at the Lincoln Memorial and call your customer service. We were advised to mail our tickets to you, along with an explanation. We were also advised to stop riding the bus. Shortly after our call to your customer service, we discovered we could use the Metro circulators for a much lower price, with more frequent stops, and with the same amount of narration we received on our City Sights D.C. bus. Consequently, we are asking for a full refund of our tickets." About a week after sending our letter, we received an email thanking us for the correspondence. The company apologized for our problems, but didn't acknowledge our request for a refund. We were simply told they would forward the complaints to management and we would be contacted. We've since asked about the status several times and the customer service rep said that management has not given them any direction. Quite frankly, I don't expect the company will respond, much less offer a refund. We'll have to pry it out of them. Also, the customer service rep was writing from a NewYorkSightSeeing.com email address. I assume they are a parent company or partner. I also asked to see a manager and requested a refund on site the same night I took the night tour and no one was available. I also sent in a complaint per the fine print on their brochure and received no response. Do NOT waste your valuable time on vacation with this company. Next stop is the Better Business Bureau. My family bought hop on hop off package for four. If I can give zero star I would. 1. I called in the morning to ask if we could hop on at a specific stop. I was told by customer service that there was no stop near the place I mentioned. Apparently customer service doesn't even know their own stops. How can u sell a product when u don't even know it?! 2. Their recorded tour guide for other languages besides English is off sync with the sites. 3. We were at one of the stops waving at the bus driver. The bus driver and staff on board just sped past while throwing their hands up at us. One of my family member is actually handicapped. We waited for a long time at that stop for the bus. Please don't advertise hop on hop off if buses refuse to allow customers to hop back on. We walked and walked and finally made it back to Union station. I questioned the customer service about bus not letting us back on. The rep just said: what can I do? I am just an agent with a red shirt. 4. We wanted to get on the night tour bus. Street-side agent told us to come back in 30mins and wouldn't let us form a line to get on. We walked around and came back within 20mins. They filled the bus already. Made us miss the first bus we were ready to get on. As a result, after the tour we missed the last shuttle back to our hotel. Had to cab back. This is a horrible tour company with disgusting customer service. We bought a groupon for this tour on Veterans day. It took us two hours to find the bus stop because some stops were closed and the 1-800 number kept sending me to the wrong places. Finally we found Union Station and were able to board the bus, with only 3 hours left to enjoy the tour instead of the 5 we planned on. The only thing good about this company was the ticket guy, Larry. He was very nice and helpful when I was my breaking point. read more

I can't really complain about the value. I bought a Groupon for the Double Decker Bus Tour through Groupon, so I can't say that I felt completely ripped off. The bus did take us around to the different locations in the area and it did provide some information about the area. The cons: I would describe the operation as ghetto, for lack of a more articulate explanation. We went to redeem our Groupons in Union Station, and we were the only ones in line, and while the cashier acknowledged us, they were engaged in an ongoing side conversation about evening plans that could nto be interrupted. The headphones they give you were uncomfortably large and didn't fit in the ears well. The volume wouldn't work on 2 of the narrations and the headphone jack was completely broken on another. The pre-recorded narrations were sparse and repetitive. There was an option for a live tour guide, but i was not able to come across it. I would not say that i feel ripped off, but I would just use this as a learning experience and feel better about spending a bit more money on the Big Bus (or something of the like) tours instead. read more

Our tour guide did a great job with his presentation even though the audio system on the bus broke. He was able to speak loud and clear enough so we could understand and enjoy our trip around the monuments. It took a bit longer than expected due to traffic. I was glad we stayed till the last stop before hopping off the bus, since we probably would not have been able to see all the sights in one day if we hopped on and off. On Memorial Day my Wife and I attempted to use this service. We drove to their location at Union Square and went to check in. The staff was not very customer service oriented. That should have clued us in on what was in store. D.C. is known for parades of all sorts. Well apparently, City Sights DC did not know this. The road closures for the bus were blocked in the mall area, but the rest of the city was free and clear. The bus ventured out approx. 3 blocks and meandered back to Union Station. The tour was cancelled. We asked for a refund and were given a phone number to call. No response. We asked to speak with the manager. Manger was no where to be found. We contacted the corporate office. See quoted response after a week, "We do apologize that we had to make last minute modifications and changes to our tours due to the events going on in Washington DC. Due to the nature of the city there are many scheduled road closures that tour operators are not notified of until the day of or late the day before and also many additional closures or re routes on the day of. Don't let the $35 price fool you (compared to their competitors BigBus DC) You may save a few dollars, but you get a much more complete tour with BigBus. 2. Don't. Just don't. Bus pick ups are unmarked and located in random places. Waited 1 hour for bus to come. Customer service on the phone was rude and unapologetic for making us wait 1 hour. Tours on certain routes finish at 4pm which is way too early. In summation: you will spend 90% of the time frustrated/dealing with the bus system and before you know it you're stuck in Georgetown, the buses have stopped running, and your day is over. Pros - Lots of stops - Easy on and off locations - if you book online it is a great deal for a family of 5 Cons - Out of the 8-10 busses we rode only 1 had working headphone jacks at every seat so we missed hearing about 80% of what we drove past - most drivers couldn't care less about the audio problems - one driver we had to flag down because he literally stopped, 2 people stepped off and he began rolling forward; the same driver started to drive away before both my feet had stepped off so with one foot on and one off I stumbled forward nearly tripping into curb. - Getting on the final bus to go back to Union Station my 10,9, & 5 year old plus my pregnant wife were walking up the stairs of the bus when the driver started to drive off nearly causing their fall. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXPERIENCE. If I could give negative stars, I would!!!! *SO* much happened, but to sum it up: - NO AIR CONDITIONING. In DC heat in the middle of August, this is a need! - The bus seats and railing BURNED ME. Not even joking. I had to sit on my backpack to make it to the next stop, and the backs of my legs hurt for the rest of the day. And, the bus railing was so hot that it burnt my arm when I touched it, leaning on the railing for support. Pics posted! - You're lucky if you get a live tour guide. Most of the time, you have to have headphones to listen in. THEY DONT SUPPLY HEADPHONES. - Stops were very infrequent, never knew when a bus would be there. Could be anywhere between 10 minutes and 40 minutes. - Staff was ridiculously rude; I spoke with 7 different staff members, and every single one of them gave me attitude and treated me like I was stupid. All except for one staff member, but he and I didn't really interact much. - When I called to see if I could get a refund, the lady on the other line gave the same rude attitude that was prevalent in the rest of the staff. She made it special though: she threw in a lot of obvious impatience, high-and-mighty comments, and even more "you stupid tourist" sentiment than the others. The worst hop on hop off I ever been on. Buses are disgustingly dirty. Bus stops are not marked so if you are planning to get on a bus not where you got off - mission impossible. For example stop #23 is not even by the sidewalk. It it simply "On a lawn by the big tree" - that's how we were directed by the police officer. In many buses audio system doesn't work. This company doesn't deserve a half a star. The buses were dirty and old. The commentary wasn't working. There was a tour guide who for some reason, refused to get on the bus at Union Station. The seats were broken. There was no information being given as we continued along the route. One gentleman called Jerome was great. He gave really useful information for things we could see around our stop at the portrait gallery. Nothing seemed organised. A really awful experience. Embarrassment for our country !!! We had overseas guests and took this tour. It was terrible!! Sound system did not work, tour guide did not have microphone, he was not very experienced. Bus was overcrowded and hot, people standing had no way of knowing what they were seeing, no A/C in enclosed part. It was like riding in hell!!. We did not enjoy our trip at all. Here's why: 1. We were sat waiting in one of your tour buses outside Union St. for about an hour because the bus wasn't working and we had to wait for another one. 2. We were passed by one of the buses on the purple line, wasted about an hour on that one too. 3. When we finally did get picked up by a purple line, your driver went a very different route than the map would indicate. 4. Your sound systems are horrible and sometimes not even working, leaving the guides (on the lines that have those!) to shout out their tour information. All in all a bad experience. I'd appreciate a full refund but I can see online that customer service is not what you do either, so I won't get my hopes up. read more

Avoid this company!!!! Not only are the buses infrequent at best, but sometimes non existent. Expect to see their competitors passing you at regular intervals. At times, no tour guides, headsets not working. Staff on the bus were rude and unhelpful, standard answer when asked when the next bus arrives is 5 mins, if pushed, 15 mins. In reality, the best time for a wait was 40 mins. I have better things to do on my holidays. The help lines was absolutely hopeless. If you want to spend money and receive little actual product and zero customer service, this company is for you....... If I could give less than one star, they would get minus 5. Awful experience. Reserved bike tour of dc through them and when I called to confirm with the vendor, they had no record of the reservation. I had an order number, a voucher, etc but not able to do the tour on my family vacation. Avoid at all costs. read more

I went with my family and my friends to Washington DC, so we decided to see the sights and we use CitySights DC and choose their 48-hr plus 2 attractions and night tour package. Since we drove from NY on the first day, we decided to do the night tour first. It didn't effect us, but with this package, your 48-hrs start when they print out your ticket at their main office at Union Station. Everyone has to go to Union Station, which is their big bus and train terminal. Union Station is less than two blocks away from the Capitol building and the National Mall. The night tour starts at 7pm, and I highly suggest you get their to wait in line by 6pm. Our tour guide, Stella, was a young woman (22 yr old), and Nice, but admitted she was new and unfortunately, it showed. She spoke more about how bad and scary Washington DC was at night, being from NY that didn't bother me, but it's still not comforting when your own tour guide says it's not safe. She knew some things but clearly did not know everything. FYI-The tourist sites they bring you to are not dangerous at all. They did do a good job at the end of the night tour by dropping people off at their hotels, if they were staying in that section of DC. They also dropped people off at the metro to grab the subway. Everyone else had to go back to Union Station. The next day we started our tour around 10am, and our tour guide, Darnell, was fantastic! When I mean fantastic...I mean FANTASTIC! It was clear he's been doing this for awhile, b/c he was a well of knowledge. If I could give him 6-stars, I would. We hopped off at one of the stops to see afew of the smithsonian museums. When we wanted to hop back on, we discovered that their brouchure map and drop off/pick up locations are not accurate. They claim they have their pick up signs at all of their locations, but that is simply not true. They drop off/pick up in the the general vicinity, but that means you could be at the wrong corner or down the block, and they will leave you for the next bus, which is about every 20-30 mins. That happened to us twice, we were waiting in front of the museum of art when their bus drove past us, turned down a block, then dropped off a person, but the bus left before we could get there. At that same location, we waited for the next bus, the bus pulls up and stops, just as we start standing up, the bus leaves without us! Seriously, she stopped for maybe 2 seconds before she took off. I called up their 1-866 number and as soon as I told their rep that the bus took off without us, she hangs up on me! Unbelievable! The only reason why I am giving this company 2-stars and not 1, is because Darnell did such a great job as a tour guide. It goes to show you that if you hop on and off means you might get a good guide one time and a not-so-good guide the next time. Their are other bus tour companies in DC: DC Ducks, Old Trolley tours and Big Bus tours, just to name afew. I think next time I will try one of those.
